Oi oi. I don't know if I'm any good, but I can sing. I can do any range you please, even geddy-lee-style-testicle-wrenching falsetto. I have a recording device (GarageBand on Mac) that isn't professional at all, but I've used it a lot. If you want, I could upload a sample.
Falsetto! That's one of the words I was looking for xD. Yes, that'd be nice... Claudio-esque right? Well, anyway.. We should all find a way to upload and transfer files to each other.
Where in that post did jake say groove metal sucks? He didn't. He said he can't stand it. That's fine. He also had reasons for that statement that he was able to relate to the music and the genre as a whole for why he disliked it. Your only reason is 'cookie monster vocals.' That has been a derogatory phrase to describe death metal vocals since the beginning. One used primarily by people who don't know anything about the music itself. I do happen to enjoy Dying Fetus' vocal technique and arrangement. And I don't find any similarities with the cookie monster and their vocals, as the cookie monster's voice is talked out. Dying Fetus(and most death metal bands with guttural vocals) use a technique to create their vocals. If you want vocals in a metal band actually similar to the cookie monster, try Dethklok; as Brendan Small does a more similar talking style. My point isn't that you dislike them. That's fine. My point is that you disrespect the musicians by saying that they suck, without giving any legitimate reason for why they do. 'Cookie monster vocals' makes you look like every mainstream retard who has ever hated on death metal, as that is about as deep as they listen to the music. And it isn't for you to say 'if that's the way death metal vocals are supposed to sound, then that's a genre of music that shouldn't have vocals.' People like you are the reason that extreme metal evolved. To be seperate from people unwilling to dive into something they don't understand, and learn to appreciate(and maybe enjoy) its finer points. You also highlighted Jake's criticism of metalcore. On this point, he and I are of a like-mind. Metalcore, on the whole, does suck. Why? It's a perversion of everything extreme metal, and heavy metal at large, stands for. That is seperation, originality, musicianship, and fidelity to all the aforementioned ends. Most metalcore is geared toward the mainstream audience, very unoriginal, very short on musical talent, and it promotes the idea of conforming for the sake of popularity. Now, I don't want to attack you. Your musical interests are not that far removed from mine a few years ago, nor is your response to my criticism of you. All that I'm asking is that you not so bluntly attack something you're not a part of. Come up with a legitimate defense of what you say. And 'cookie monster vocals' are not a legitimate defense for why a death metal band sucks. -Justin
Dying Fetus sounds like my kind of band. :] Anyway... I don't listen to alot of bands with female singers (since all I can find are bands like Otep, Arch Enemy, and Kittie and abunch of hard-rock bands) But lately I've been really interested in the Deathcore and Death Metal scene. Cannibal Corpse got old after a while. After hearing like...three albums that sound so similiar, I decided to move on with my life, but that's not to say that they're not good. Job For A Cowboy... ZOMG, have I heard too much about this band...I know what they sound like...I just havn't been..interested enough in them.. I'd say they're deathcore. I promised myself I would actually sit down and listen to a few of their songs in full, but I've been too lazy. Question. Who the hell said Flyleaf was a metal band? XD I've never heard that one before... Well. I did. But the guy also thought Disturbed was a metal band, along with AC/DC xD. Anyway. Back on subject. Deathcore. And on subject also, Sludge metal. Discuss?

As far as your skills go...Niceee. I'm most likely not going to be doing any engineering, since I really suck at it, so you may indeed be up for that job :]. And who knows? You have so many skills, we could use you for just about anything... the members may switch positions from song to song, so you'll fit right in. My skillz- Drums (preferrable) Vocals, Gutteral, Pig Squeal, Banshee (I'd like anyone who can sing in the band to sing some in every song. In other words, it'd be sweet to have multiple vocalists) Guitar (I suck lol, so I hopefully won't be playing anything for you guys) Anyone else want to join? :] All musicians and genres will be put to work, aha, so don't feel like you won't fit in, or that you're style of music just isn't right for this. :] And by the way...Any Acapella vocalists out there, or high- feminine toned vocalists?

Lately, I've just been wanted to try something new, away from my usual band routine... and I had an idea, that may not work, and most likely, noone will participate in, but.. I'm serious about the idea. I'd like to gather up all of the musicians on the OB, to participate in a "OB Rock Band (aha, we'll think of a real name) But of course, when I pitch this idea, I suppose nobody will feel like participating, but I do wish someone would.. :] How would this project come about? Recording programs, mics, we use mulitiple people to record guitar, bass, drums and vocals. But, in this project, I want to span over many genres, and put it into a Progressive form. So, we'll have moments that are like that of Coheed and Cambria, or The Sound of Animals Fighting, and then we'll have our moments that are similiar to bands like Opeth, and etc. So, anyone want to help out? Real musicianship, anybody? Pow?

Miss Machine is crap. >_< I really like Calculating Infinity, though, and parts of their s/t. And... Aren't Converge mathcore too? Despite the punk sound of some of their songs... I havn't looked into Poison the Well's new stuff, after hearing their single "Letter Thing", I kind of don't care what it sounds like. And as far as "O' God, The Aftermath"... duh I've listened to it. It's one of the best metalcore albums... ever (?) in my book, though Norma Jean isn't exactly one of my favorite bands, and plus there is alot of repitition in songs on that album (which is kind of why they're not one of my top favorites)... But it's way better than Redeemer, which has alot of its cliche' moments, but I can stand to sit down and listen to a few of the songs on the album, and won't lie...some of the catchy parts are stuck in my head >_ -
DEP was more or less just a standard metalcore band, in their vein of it. Comparable to Converge, Botch, and later Norma Jean. Nowadays, they're more of an experimental post hardcore band. But calling them progressive is off quite a bit. Prog. requires at least some basic knowledge of jazz and jazz structure. None of that exists in DEP. FASSW...meh...another something-core band that is of no use to me. -Justin
Now that I'm actually listening to DEP, I can hear that there isn't any prog-bits, but it's pretty clear that DEP is what we call zeh "Mathcore". Quite a nice genre, but FASSW is a mathcore band, as well. So, you might not like the genre in general, but the bands are sometimes totally different that they can't be compared, except of course, for the math breakdowns that make it mathcore. FASSW is just a taste of mine. Such as The Number 12, bands like Converge...etc. :] Now let's move on to a band from 1998 ( I believe), that are post-hardcore and metalcore, with a few twists, but mainly can just be called metalcore. now, I don't listen to this band all that much, but I do have a few albums of theirs. Some songs are good, some just suck. What do you guys think of- Poison the Well, anyone? -

Love them- From A Second Story Window xDEATHSTARx Iron Maiden But the absolute EPIC bands- The Number 12 Looks Like You- My jaw dropped. The Human Abstract- I cried the second I heard the solo in "Mea Culpa", got their songs and knew they would be as awesome as I thought they'd be. Love them but...just one album made me think of them as being "Awesome."- My Chemical Romance- "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" This is actually, well to me, just wonderful. Nice happey melodies...and not as quite dark as their other albums, and I liek the concepts of the songs, dealing with 9/11, and of course love. HORSE the band- "R. Borlax" This album is filled with the awesome hardcore mixed in with math and nintendo, that I love. Thoug hthe singer annoys me quite a bit on this album, the band can play their instruments like angels. Okay, definitely not angels. But they're pretty good. Fear Before The March of Flames- "Odd How People Shake" I love this album as well, and it's one of the few that I think of the term "genius" when I hear it. They were so young when they made it, and I like their old style better than their newer-heavier stuff. Coheed And Cambria- "3: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth" I never really grew onto the other albums...and I've been listeningto this album longest, and Co&Ca's style on this album is great, and has elements to please so many fans of different music genres... It's original music too, them being a watered-down band... mixed in with dark bits without having to get "heavy" or whatever. underOATH- "The Changing of Times" To be honest. I cried on alot of the songs on this album. Another "genius" album, leading away from typical metalcore, and into alot of that sad stuff...the key riffs are mostly what are making me cry, mixed in with the light riffs and lyrics about broken hearts and Jesus, lol xD The Devil Wears Prada- "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" Wayyy better than their new album "Plagues" which blends too much into post-hardcore-pop crap. But this one is just metalcore, unlike As I Lay Dying, however. Like uO, they have sad parts, but unlike uO, they have many heavy breaks, dual vocals, and don't whine about broke neharts that much. But I cried on this album too. lol The Sound of Animals Fighting- "Tiger and the Duke" Well, this album was exactly I was looking for. Something original in the less-heavier genres. And what can I say? It's one of the best put together albums I've ever heard, and epic, but doesn't belong in my epic section because of the fact that "Lover.." wasn't that great to me. I don't really have many songs from you guys, but you rule anyway- I Set My Friends on Fire- Most likely to get a label before the end of the year, alot of different stuff packed into one hardcore band. Iwouldetc- I'm with Kevin on this one. I don't have many songs but them, but from what I've heard, I love it. -

Flyleaf is just bad. Another crappy Christian Post-loser-hardcore band that can't come up with something actually original. No offense. But They're just another pop-rock group like Evanescence... Eyes Set To Kill is way better than Flyleaf anyday. This thread doesn't consist of actual heavy or extreme music that isn't metal... just whiny bands, and "hard rock" bands that aren't "heavy"..>_< Let's talk about... From A Second Story Window. Death-metal-mathcore. :D Or atleast, those are the genres that come to mind. I'm sure they're not metal, lol, so here's the thread for them. I'd call this music...music for people with short-attention-spans...bad patience... ADD, etc. So, indeed. I like it. I can listen to every song by them and like it, because of the fact that...it's got so many bits. And I love every single breakdown, and I'm really into the story of the songs... The lyrics are the best story I've heard since some of Co&Ca's music (veiw Coheed and Cambria thread), and I'm not sure what this means... but... "Kiss the flames of Loki's Blade." :D Sounds awesome, yes? And also, I'd like a conversation to start about The Dillinger Escape Plan. I recently got a few songs of theirs, that I havn't heard... Well, I heard one, and fro mwhat I heard I liked. I'll have to take some time to listen to the rest on my iPod, but in the mean time, tell me more about this band. Progressive- mathcore maybe? -
I'm sorry Jake! T_T I wouldn't know genres... What exactly makes the genre Death Metal? And What is metalcore if it has no pop chorus' and guitar solos? I need to know. xD p.s- myspace music player doesn't work so well.. last time I used it.. I waited hours just to hear Gallowbraid's music. :] does Primordial have any other links? speaking of that... does Gallowbraid have purevolume?

Isn't Slipknot something like...Rapcore? The only problem with them is...It takes eight members to make something...a three or four member band could do better. Shame. Just picking...We've all had our... No.. Well.. Some of us have had our Sliptard days...Just like many metal-fans of today have had their young days of listening to Unearth. Well. You can take everything post about music I've ever written, and it would all add up to..one big post that should be in here. I hate poppy music like Post-hardcore. All the girls. And some of the guys, that dress funny like post-hardcore. All of them. Absolutely all of them. Blessthefall suck, okay? Sure... Chiodos is an amazing band, but you have to understand the quality of it... Not just because Craig can sing good. Flyleaf is a horrible band! And most of all. Hawthorne Heights. lol. Okay, I'm over my anger streak. And Clurr, Norma Jean is way better than the new Underoath stuff, anyday. At least NJ had something going before "Redeemer" came out. You should get "O' God, The Aftermath"... Best album yet. Now. On the subjects... math-core/ninetndocore/hardcore/awesomecore genres. Hmmm. I came across an older message by Rev. He said something about Disciple, and how he didn't know anything about Christian metal, or something. DISCIPLE? Man. You obviously don't get out much do you ;] xDEATHSTARx -Death Metal mixed in with a few Metalcore signatures, but without any of the pop. Seven members. Three Singers. Two Guitarists. Bass. Drums. A few members no longer are in the band, but, that's what it was like on their last CD "We Are the Threat", which, unlike alot of albums from bands like this, got even heavier. Highly recommend this band, because, they rock. I'm not into alot of music like this, because of the stale repitition, but this band definitely doesn't go for the poppy chorus crap, and still manages to go in other genres like punk, but still keeps it "metal" or whatever. These guys rule. MyChildren MyBride- A band that I like to call "Alternative Metalcore". Basically, sort of like xDSx. Basically, while you still get punk mixed in with metal, you get no melodic crap. This band is another one of those "Call to Arms" straightedge bands, just as xDSx, and call out to men and women to stand up. :] These guys have a really nice sound, because of the fact that they have alot of deathmetal riffs and metalcore signatures, and the drummer doesn't use alot of double-eight bass rolls, but instead just flams the bass a few times to make a nice small touch, which is very effective, and then he actually uses drum beats! Oh noez! Something other than a constant doublebass, even though he does use it alot, which is evident in songs like "Boris the Blade". :] In Irons- I've mentioned them before, I think. They're another one of these Alternative Metalcore bands, again mixed in with Death metal. This band basically takes a bit of everything from their influences, to make one awesome sound. Dual vocals, one cookie monster vocalist, and another one that screams. The all-together sound is great. I've heard quite a few of the metalcore time signatures before, but these guys are yet another band that make it original. This Runs Through- This band probably doesn't belong here because of how much of their music is made up of punk and hardcore riffs, mixed in with harsh vocals and doublebass. They're the good version of Underoath, with some parts that sound like old underOATH. Spencer's voice is way better in this band, probably cause his voice matured and started sucking after the break-up of this band. The guitarists use alot of sad uplifiting riffs, that would be in a metalcore band liek old UnderOATH, and the drummer uses doublebass, just like a metalcore band would. So, for the most part. This is another metalcore band without any poppy choruses, but they do have harsh yet melodic bits.
Two words Mann: ****ing amazing. Though I gotta say, calling those vocals is an insult to vocals in general XD it's just "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" for ungodly stretched of time XD wait, that's A CHICK?! OH MY GOD!!! That doesn't seem physically possible! Anyway despite the bowel movements being passed off as vocals, the music is amazing. The distorted guitars are a bit off-put in some song where they're so quiet, but that positively inhuman drumming makes up for it. Random hiphop beats = WTF.
Yeah, man. Those vocals have some special name...gutter..something. Comes from your gut. :D The drums are like...Yeah. YEAH. YES! And then...the techno bits are bit...off, but it's all good. Glad you like it. And I'm sure the band gets tired of being called Grindcore. They have other elements, too. :] For the most part, I think they would belong in this thread. After all, they're not the kind of music that those metal-underlings listen to.. such as the Punk side of things, but then again, I suppose you know more about music than me, so I'll agree with you, I guess.

Other than Trivium...Which, let's put it like this..are good at what they do...to fans. But otherwise, not to people that belong in this thread. I hate their guts too. :] Now let's talk about a different sub-genre or whatever or metal. Or one band in particular. Wecamewithbrokenteeth. Wow. This stuff is crazy. I've heard alot of stuff in genres that sound anything near what this band has created...Industrial..Power Metal.. Death Metal..Metalcore... But, I can't really put my finger on what they're type of music is. You guys will probably hate them, or most likely not even try to listen to their music.. but crap. I take everything I said back about drummers. The drummer from WCWBT is the fastest drummer I've ever heard. Crazzzyyyy fast. And If I'm hearing right, on a electric set, with that. But they've changed their lineup, and I'm not sure who is drumming now, so yeah. I think now, they have drum sequencers playing, Heck, they probably had sequencers up the whole time I don't knwo anybody who could drum that fast...but...but... how exactly do you program one to be awesome like that? Never had one. The axes are okay, while they have their moments in songs, they're very distortioned and deep, and go from metal riff to metal riff, and thank God, none of that metalcore bridged crap. Vocals are killer. Dual vocals. Very low. and then kind of high. The vocals seem distant. The vocals are still killer. Who knows what the crap they're yelling about? Doesn't matter. I just grunt along with them...most of it's "Ooooooo WEEEEEE" And then..you have the synth, and...well. Techno. Techno and hiphop breakdowns sometimes. their songs are really short...I have 16 of them, and that adds up to about twenty minutes, but I'm satisfied. I don't know about their newer stuff on Myspace, but you guys should download them off of limewire or something. This stuff is freaking crazy robotic evil. http://www.myspace.com/wcwbtmetal

You rock Wacko. And so does your Microsoft Paint. Microsoft Paint is almost better than Buttered Toast. Anyway. Let's see how long it'll be, before some douche decides to lock this thread down. ;] Now, here's a new game. For this remainder of time...until..I say..new game...let's all find really weird random videos. GO!

I'll name two of my favorites.. Donnie Darko, and Stranger than Fiction... Both are masterpieces. Absolutely. DD uses alot of mystery, dark humour, and just...tragedy. The ending is one of those you'll remember forever, and one that you go back through the movie to find all the clues for the ending, and well. It's just a brilliant ending, that you'd actually have to think about. But other than the ending, the plot is really good, and original. This film isn't for everyone, mostly because they think that the idea of a man in a bunny suit is stupid, but you just have to watch it to understand it. StF is another masterpiece, but more recent. StF is about a novel, and a meaning that is so pure, and can be related to anything from...oh..a soldier in war, to the bible. "If the man knows he's going to die... and he willingly faces his fate...isn't that the kind of man you want to keep alive?" One of my favorite quotes. :] While StF has its comical moments, Will Ferrel is also a very good actor in the tragic and sad bits. It's very convincing. The idea of Harold Crick being a character in his own tragedy of a novel, is a nice sick twist. I also like the math-addition parts to it, in which you get to see in the mind of Harold, and how he calculates everything exactly. "A Wristwatch Saved Harold Crick" Watch the movie. It's a good one.
