1.
No, no it doesn't. Just because you listen to metal a lot doesn't mean all screaming in songs sounds good. Listen to Ensiferum (more specifically the song Trecherous Gods), that is screaming. There is such a thing as good and bad screaming.
Let's try not to fight over this. My voice was off, and I didn't bother to change anything... well, because the song wasn't a serious song. The screaming couldv'e been way better but I'm glad Laura didn't hate it. :] Ah yes James... I had to add you to my song. "Some Australian Guy... Named James. Oh yeah." Zen, you and I should do a duet for the OB. xD
2.
lol. That was kind of cool... I definitely liked the beats (at the beginning anyway), what program did you use to put all of this together? Something you need to work on is lyrics, though. It seemed like you just started recording and spouted out random stuff about OB, haha. Also the screaming at the end was really, really annoying. Sorry.
Haha too true, I just started yelling stuff. I use a program that you can pay for, when your order a mac, called "Logic Express". I can use the loop beats, and mix them in with synth I've created by myself (I can use the computer keys like a keyboard, with the program), and of course, I can record from a pre-amp plug in, that allows to play my acousitc guitar and instruments directly into the computer without having much feedback. Ultimately, it's a more professional version of Garageband. As I said, my voice is annoying during this song, and I guess I wanted to top the whole thing off with a big dynamic hardcore part, lol. I centered the lyrics (well, what I was comin up with as the beats were going) alot, around the description for the site. Anime, Videogames, Music, Movies, Art and General Entertainment Discussion. lol. And I course had to add in stuff about James. Except... I don't even know what I'm saying during the hardcore part. Just screaming and yelling "HA HA HA HA... Otttaakkkuboards... yo." I swear I entertain myself with my own songs.. That's pretty much why I make stuff like this. But I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the song is okay. :]
3.
I am listening to Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd which is really sad song. It reminds me of the death of the
Firefly family(my favorite anti hero family)
from the devils rejects. Lastly I am listening to Killswitch Engage. You may be thinking " I thought that guy hated Killswitch Engage?" Well I do...sort of. But this really sexy girl likes it so I am giving it another chance. I think Eye of the Storm is an OK song. It's not so bad...except for Holy Diver that song is terrible to a degree I have never experienced. Oh yea and yesterday I went on a Chevelle+Staind binge. Man that was a good binge.
Free Bird is quite possibly one of my favorite songs ever, though I don't much care for Skynyrd's other stuff... And Holy Diver is pretty okay. After all, it's a Dio cover. Of course, they couldn't have given it the power that Dio gave it, but they tried. As a flashback to the old days, I'm listening to this album: "Siren Song of the Counter Culture" by Rise Against. The album isn't bad, and has a great style of punk, mixed with all the new mainstream stuff, I guess we would call "pop". It's a catchy album, and I've almost learned how to play all the songs on the guitar... Also, listening to alot of Fear Before the March of Flames. AR is very appreciative of this band. In fact, the Monticello scene will eat them up. (The Monticello scene is full of Norma Jean fans, Fearbefore fans, The Number 12 fans, HeavyHeavyLowLow fans...etc.) So obviously, I feel right at home around those kids. But, other than that. "Odd How People Shake" is an amazing debut. "Art Damage" is okay, and does feature a few great songs that I value alot. The newer one, I havn't heard, so I can't say anything for it. But don't think that this band is one that many Scene Kids like, no no. This band is definitely for fans of certain kind of music, indeed. This is technical post-hardcore for the soul, my friends. But Fearbefore is a great band. Listen.
4. I failed to mention I'm also a big coffee drinker. Mostly chilled Lattes of the sort. I don't drink much black coffee. I love Mocha fraps, caps, any Java drink... etc. Instead of going to the local bar and having a good time, I'd rather go to the local Coffee/Acoustic Music/Poetry/Art place, and have a good time, lol.
5. Haha, as it would have it, I don't eat breakfast. I don't drink energy drinks, either. (Unless you count an occasional electrolyte-filled drink as one, i.e. Gatorade, Powerade, Propel.) First of all, I don't like the bitterness that energy drinks have... It's obviously an acquired taste. But, if I was absolutely parched, I would take one. Second, my friend used to drink them like a maniac, and he stopped drinking them so much after having a bad pain in his chest one night, which we figure was from the rush of the drinks. I don't eat breakfast, because well. Either A) My stomach will kill me, which it already does most of the time. B) I don't have time! But, I do drink from 3 to around 5 pops a night. Coke mostly, sometimes Pepsi or Sprite as well. I used to only drink Dr. Pepper, but, now I hate the stuff. Going back, it tastes like a carbonated cough syrup, and plus, it contains prune juice. Prune juice is a big no-no for me.
6.
I've been getting into some Death Metal recently, particularly local acts around Columbia, SC such as Because of This and Tales of the Black Freighter (who's singer I've become friends with). Both are very good, and I enjoy my city's local sound more than others because of the emphasis Columbia's metal vocalists put on their deep, harsher vocals rather than the high-pitched, often annoying, screeches and screams popular else where. I've also become a fan of Born of Osiris, particularly the song "Bow Down". Apart from that, I've started to listen to more Johnny Cash, downloading a small cashe of his greatest hits after watching Walk The Line again. I'm impressed by the work he did near the end of his life. Songs like "Hurt" and "God's Gonna Cut You Down" really hit me well. I'm also enjoying some of his more classic songs like "Ring of Fire" and "Cocaine Blues".
Yeah, he also did a song about the Witch of Rose Hall.... Said he had a connection with her (a spiritual one, I guess.), or something. At that time, he was fairly old. So, who knows? Johnny Cash, however, Is the man. He's dead but, I forget that. All these teenybopper girls in love with him, and what-not. Actually... it seems everyone is into deep vocals... I'm the only guy around my area that likes high-pitched vocals... Everyone else thinks they're obnoxious too, so I don't blame you for thinking that. I'm listening to Wyclef Jean. He reminds me that 4/20 just passed. lol
7. This is just (some of) the lyrics on our last album we put out. It was a concept album, that concerned several things, mostly personal. But the story tells of an angel, a sailor, and a little girl, and the journey that they all share. I'll try and find every single word to piece together the story as it was written, for you guys. You may notice some similarities between the lyrics, and films. I get inspired, by quotes from my favorite films. (Alot of my lyrics don't rhyme by the way, I feel they don't have to... I'm writing to get my point across, but at times rhyming is okay.) Only a few are here, the significant ones, I suppose. Spontaneously Combusted Church Van... Speak of the Devil The ocean waves glide along The sun's gleaming in your eyes There's a gate in the sky It closes as he falls out Into the Sea below. Onto shore, he coughs And walks into field there's a house, oh so close But his suffering, is much too great his eyes open to a small boy peering over him "And both of you knew you'd found a new friend" The bond was only written in stone When you shed a tear at the sight... of his broken wings What a memory.... Wake up. Those Pants Belong to David Hasselhoff, Give Them Back Now you're awake, Now listen to me We've had some time to think, think it over And the future awaits, but it doesn't wait that statue sitting on his pedestal fist to his face, wasting away his life, concrete runs through those stone veins The price of having only a brain... ... it must be horrible with no feeling. The portrait on the wall, its eyes are placed on him He never looks over to take it in He thought of his life, and what he had seen Hoping for a puppeteer, or a family were his dreams a man passed him one day... looked him in the eye. The statue's train of thought crashed. No therapist, or friend in sight. So this is what the man said: 3. It Takes A Milion Grains of Sand to Make the Patch of Dirt You're Falling in I don't actually remember these lyrics right now xD... so I'll have to find where I wrote them and learn them... I'll do that later. :] 4. A Wristwatch The sun couldn't break my gaze to heavens when I asked to be saved with no reply... and alternate seems just fine How can I help this time when I can't even save myself I manifest myself with lyrics like tell-tale story books inked in blood a moment suspended in time, outside of my mind.. And I'm praying for myself. Hallelujah, and can I be saved twice when he only died once will he pray for his son to make it home, before nightfall comes Hallelujah. 5. Life Is Like A Seventies Horror Movie How odd, the thoughts of one man And what he tries to hide Though he seems to be honest, he tells you "I met a sailor once.... he said drowning... was like going home." But did you really believe him? Because after a while, wouldn't you expect it all to be a lie? Drowning is of suffering nature But its the man that chooses to let go. "Man's reach exceeds his grasp.. Man's grasp exceeds his nerve." Today... I watched my ship sink and walked away This is not the bed that I've made. 6. There's No Hope For Saint Elmo This Time Today, I let my ship sink and so I swam away This is not the bed that I've made. ["No one ever said love was easy, but here I am. Someone bring me the paramedics, we've got a case of broken hearts."] The angel... the angel lost its wings Its praying for father to come The sickness lives on inside he prays for it to go away And the schools burn and the towns all fall and the church stands alone "God bless Shiloh." And Helena raging on inside So, Angel witnesses war. These towers weren't the first to go. Are you listening? 9. Janey Briggs' Got A Gun Again Loving Child, precious child sink into this bloom of words and scars helping those, and loving all and then lashing out on yourself guardian angels try to help but you can't see them lurking in the night feather by feather, you close your eyes you dream of fields of notes you wake up, right as the orchestra turns and goes for the juggular smile, it was only a dream, but not for long as you can't find home and the north star is nowhere to be found you loved so much, and helped so many but how did it help you in the end? Father, mother, are you proud? You've gotten what you wanted again... And the north star is nowhere to be found... 10. You're Older Than My Really Old Blue Nokia Phone It seems my demons have caught up with me Whether or not, they're in my mind I'm sure God is listening And I hope he has the time.. I found an angel in the fields of white And I can't decide if he's going to be alright just fine. Couldn't you think of your children Before you went off and died Didn't you hear your parent's knowingly aching cries I don't know if you're a bad man But who am I to criticize? Wings were broken, they told him he was worthless his faith had been taken, he said "It just wasn't worth it" His eyes slowly rolled back and an orchestra began to play and I heard a little girl's cries "Let Daddy Out Of That Box!" 11. Goodbye to All Those Memories (I wish there was dramatic theme music playing every time I walked out that door, but sadly there's not) (I also wish this was the longest song title ever, but guess again, it's not even close, most likely) (IDK) (Wiki It) On my way back from memory lane I met a little girl in a museum by a statue she asked it if he had seen her father a dead sailor his ship sank and he didn't make it she said " a little boy with wings told me to come here" she turned around and I recognized her I asked her what she was doing here she didn't reply she never replied and I saw the statue wink at me as if he knew what was wrong as if he knew all along that I wasn't alive that the guardian angel was right and I should have swam away but my conscience was killing me too much to breathe And I couldn't escape the fate that I made This is the bed I'll sleep in This is the bed that I never made Guardian angel like an imaginary friend I once had, but I'll never see again Where did you go? I remember when I was a boy... I mended your wings when you fell in between a war I'll never forget those words you said to me "Dear my friend, thank you for being there for me when Heaven felt like it was floating away" but the worst feeling I ever had was when I couldn't turn to her and I say I love her I love you, darling.. God bless that statue, as it looked my daughter in the eye Death leaves a pain no one can heal But Love leaves a memory no one can steal Dear my friends.. Thanks for being there for me When heaven felt like it was floating away This is the end.
8. Wow, there's alot packed into this RPG. I like the way it feels, the magic mixed in with music. Seems like a stoned FLCL, which I'm a big fan of. More members need to respond to this. And stuff, so we can have ourselves a RPG.
9. [strike]Well... the self pleasure thread isn't around anymore so I don't know if this is appropriate, but I love m[/strike]usic, as well. I usually pull out my acoustic guitar, and play classico music, or soft pop songs. These are great for relaxing. Usually, at night, I end up listening to fairly mellow music, or emotional music, aslo, classicla, and piano music help outs very much. My favorites for night time are: Straylight Run, Brand New, Gregory and the Hawk, Coheed and Cambria (some of their songs tend to relax me very much)... I sit in front of my mirror and sing along (well... it's the truth, lol).... other than that. RPGs help me eventually get to a point where I want to sleep. Last night, I played .hack//G.U. for a while, then turned it off, and dozed off. But, I tend to have some troubles at night... because I'll get really inspired to write something on the guitar, and I don't want to wake my parents up... Also, I dance. [strike]In front of the mirror....[/strike]
10.
Someone told me I should check out Therion - Der Mitternachtlöwe So I did. To be honest, I was not impressed. It had a very flat and stale feel to the music. It was like it tried to be impressive, grand, sweeping, etc. However, it just never managed to quite get there. It was interesting to listen to once, but I doubt I'll listen again.
I agree with you there... They seemed too plain. Just another band with a long name, trying to act epic, I suppose. I don't listen to that much Symphonic metal. Honestly, I don't know what the term means. But, I do listen to Apocalyptica. A metal band, made up of cellists, and a drummer. The vocals are regular metal/metalcore scream/sing vocals. But, the cello in the songs is fast, and has its moments that pass into mellow, mesmerizing bodies of harmony. I'm listening to New London Fire right now. I can't tell if they're a new band or old one, but they sound great. They have the eighties technopop feel mixed in with elements of other kinds of pop and rock. They do have a good original sound, but they're similiar to bands like Anberlin, The Killers, and Jimmy Eat World, if it was mixed with 80's music.
11.
That's weird... I've actually been through Warren before. And I remember hearing a major storm heading through your area just shortly after ours hit... Maybe you remember the news talking about Fort Smith and Van Buren??? But yeah, the tornadoes are crazy. Our school got cancelled for a day because of the damage done to all the windows, but unfortunately, we didn't get our school blown down. It's actually funny because, ever since I was in elementary, I've wished for a tornado to blow down the school... (at night, of course) And I was actually hopeful last week because I heard that there were funnels right over it, but it didn't touch down until after it was out of the city... Darn It seems like the weather is getting worse every year. It stays colder longer and the heat gets more unbearable each year... We had that really bad ice storm about 7 or 8 years ago, but ever since then, we didn't even have snow that stuck to the ground, until this year when we got up to 5 inches on three separate occasions. (The strangest part about it is that it was actually warm in between each snow. Warm enough to wear shorts and a T-Shirt) I hate tornado alley... (P.S. I was just joking about my dislike for Arkansas in that PM you sent me. :p)
Yeah the snow was the strangest part of our weather. The day before had been pretty hot, and they day before that day, even hotter. And, well the snow made for an awkward change of weather. But, for the next few days, we had snow to play in... before it completely melted away. :[ It's funny how the weather is never exactly how you want it. As my luck would have it, a tornado would probably randomly burst right through our school, while we were all in it. I've heard a lot about Fort Smith and Van Buren... My dad is in the logging industry, and he has to watch the weather very periodically, so I pick up a lot when I'm at the dinner table, and etc. My family is going through a lot of stuff right now because of work being bad for him. Also, this isn't just happening all over AR... it's like. The world is ending. Well, I don't want to get dramatic, but I do have a feeling that my children's lives will suck. If the weather gets any worse, someone could die of heat stroke in the sunny states, before the year even hits summertime. The winters are starting to suck too. Blaaahhhh. Oh, and that's good you were just kidding. lol, It's probably common though, about several people to have horrible nightmares involving us "southern hillbillies with twelves gauges and fo'-wheelahs" ...lol.
12. Love A Mixed Feeling Dwelling Beneath the Chest Love in its pure form Something to die for Advent The Antonym of the End, A joyous event, or a dilemma Why wait for the end? 13. Yeah, I have to turn my iPod all the way up to hear some of those quiet parts... As for the Ob band, I'm all for it. I don't really know what happened with the the original idea for the band, lol. But, it's not really anyones fault that it died out. We'll get our chance to do that someday. Thanks very much, Claire. :] I was afraid that my acoustic guitar didn't sound good enough, and little things like that... But for the most part I'm glad I put it together, successfully. xD
14.
I just answered this in the other thread, but there is one exception where I would like manga better. And that is when the anime is essentially edited to death, ruining the story. Good example? Yu-Gi-Oh. In the end though, I still rarely read manga at all. I've probably read less than ten series altogether since it's not what I prefer to read.
My friends think I'm weird when I tell them I read Yu-Gi-Oh, but I let one of them read the first volume, and he saw the difference. The manga, is definitely good example. Manga is just... raw. :]
15. Well, last night, I somehow got extremely inspired. And at the same time, I was on Ob. So, I recorded a theme song for us. So. Yeah. I made a myspace, and I guess... you guys could discuss it or something, or submit your own theme songs, or whatever. Something that has to do with songs inspired by OB, lol. www.myspace.com/xnomurax That's my link, fresh, and I havn't gotten to spiffy it up yet, but maybe I'll get around to it eventually. Tell me what you think. My voice, for the most part, is annoying, which adds more to the comical aspects of the song. And of course.... It's full of techno/acoustic/hardcore goodness.
16. Maybe he could pull out the stick up his ***, and he'd find his belongings stuck to it.
17. Well, SORRRRRYYYY, that I don't know spanish. And...getting James in the states may cost money, I suppose. Of course, he could sneak into the cargo bay, dressed up like a lamp. And then, we got here, he could buy/rent a bus. And, then. Wha-laa! We have the first ever OTAKUBOARDS WORLD (except for places not in North America) TOUR! I havn't been on Group sounds in forever, so I wouldn't know whether or not, if its dead. I forgot the link. So, I guess someone else will have to figure out if its dead or not. Well, we could always try and find the secret mod forum, and then, we will have a new home.
18. This will end the battle between Manga, and Anime. Most of us like both. But we can't lie. We prefer one over the other. But which is it? In this epic battle, I think we will finally get the answer. On the anime thread for the battle, you will post what you like about Anime, that manga doesn't have. For example: I vote for Anime, because it's of course, animated. And it streams with colour, instead of being black-and-white. While I do enjoy manga, I'd have to say that I get a much more enjoyable experience from the Anime, rather the manga. I can see all the action as it is happening, instead of getting confused by some parts because the drawing is awkward, or something that may occur in a manga. Vote.
19. This will end the battle between Manga, and Anime. Most of us like both. But we can't lie. We prefer one over the other. But which is it? In this epic battle, I think we will finally get the answer. On the Manga thread for the battle, you will post what you like about Manga, that anime doesn't have. I, for one, read much more manga, than I watch anime. It's easy to go through, and get into, though sometimes, you can't tell what's going on, because it's not animated. You can steer away from annoying voices, and of course, dubbing, most of the time. Though some manga are being translated into little kid features. This is not good, but manga still has the violence, blood, gore, and grayscale that Anime could never pull off. So, while I like the Full Metal Alchemist and Neon Genesis Evangelion animes over the mangas, usually I enjoy the mangas more than the shows. My vote, is for the manga side.
20.
So last night was the worst storm I've ever been in. I thought I had it bad once when I was on the road with a tornado, but this storm last night scared the crap out of me. Anyway, if you didn't hear about it, there was a large storm traveling from Texas to Illinois last night. Several tornados touched down, ripping houses apart. (Doing their usual tornado thing) Anyway, death toll was low, so that's a great thing. Still, it is creepy the way this storm attacked. I live right on the border to Arkansas and have to cross the Arkansas river anytime I want to go into the city, and apparently half the city is flooded. Buildings are blown apart, windows shattered, damaged cars, etc. In my town alone, we had two funnels and a very brief tornado just outside city limits. Luckily, it only touched down for a few seconds over some farmland. So, what's you scariest storm? Hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes... I know there are OB members all across the US, (and some are even in different countries) so this isn't just limited to Tornadoes.
I know exactly what you're talking about, after all... These tornados keep passing through Arkansas. This year is probably the worst weather we've had. I live in Warren ... very small town. Luckily, we didn't get it bad. But Little Rock did. My cousin's school had a tornado tear it to shreds. They were out for a little while, and now, they're all going to school in places like community centers, churches, etc. You may have heard it on the news. I also found out that AR was on the news in Canada. That was like "Whoa, is our weather that bad?".... so I'm guessing it is. Also. It hasn't snowed down here in seven years. But on March 1st, we got five/six inches of it. That was a high-light of my year. Snow battles with my buddies, like we were little kids. It's just been so long since we've gotten it.
21. I understand where you're coming from entirely, even though my situation is exactly the opposite. I actually... don't want to go to college... I want to just... be free for once in my life. I'm old enough now to make my own decisions, and yet... everytime, I make a B or C on an assignment... My parents do everything in their power to make me miserable. They don't understand how hard they're making my life for me, and as it turns out... now. I'm failing most of my courses. I just want to get out of school, and get away. But, my parents want me to get a scholarship. They want me to go to college. My friend Dustin tells me it's absolutely miserable for him, and he tries not to be lazy... But he finds it extremely hard to make it to classes. His girlfriend seems to be happy with her college life... I don't know. Which one will I be? If I do go to school, I want to go to a graphic design school, or a film school. But this is nearly impossible for me. So... I guess... Nothing. Call me lazy. You obviously have much more ambition than me, and I respect that. I hope your life goes in the direction you want it to, and even if you end up at the college right next door... there's still a chance you'll enjoy it alot. After all, it's still a college, right?
22. Me, sporting OB's magical colours, obviously. I felt the need to show everyone my gracious figure and boney arms.
23.
Whatevs. As for my dying... Trust me, you would all know if that happened. It is a little-known fact that I was one of the hackers who brought down v2 back in 2001. As a beloved and respected member of the community, no one ever suspected me--which made it even easier to gain access to the revamped v3 (and later) control code. I subtly modified it, masterfully weaving the php around a hidden internet doomsday device. It is constantly ticking down?at any given moment, this forum has less than twenty-four hours left of existance. Every night at midnight, I hack into the system and enter a secret code to reset the countdown and keep this board from going nuclear. So, yeah. If I ever die, you'll know.
YOU'RE TEARING OUR FAMILY APARTTTTTT!!! Sorry. Wanted to use that dramatic movie quote. Also, I was going to say Akuna Matata... but I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean family in Hawaiian... Yeah... Well, if the Ob did shut down, we could all move to Group Sounds, lol. Then we could all be a family, over there. ...How the hell did we get off on cookies? You mods, and your ways of getting people off-subject. I think the OB should get its on reality show. The Real World: OtakuBoards! Then everyone could see how much worse we are, compared to The Osbournes. The Mods would be least favorite characters on the show, because they suck the fun out of the regular members' souls, and what-not. How about we all get on paypal and donate to James, so he can buy a tourbus, and come and pick us all up, and take us to Disneyland? (Shy and Syk3's epic meeting took place there lol)
24. Wow. Last year I saw the trailer for this film, and by Christmas, I had figured that it wouldn't ammount to anything but a cool/strange trailer. But, I'd have to say. I'm wrong. mdotstrange, award-winning indie director, has finally released it onto Youtube, in its entirety, along with the DVD, out on filmbaby.com and amazon.com... Here's the film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jlD7EVSJFw And yes.... It's strange. Some parts are humorous, some parts are sad. The whole thing is creepy. But I have to give it to the guy. It's not the best CGI movie, but it entertained me. I was surprised to see how many awards this guy has gotten for the film.
25.
Hmmmm, I love OB, but I don't think of it as a family, more of a tight community. :catgirl: One with lots of fun friends. It is kind of sad when people move on, but I just assume that real life got too busy for them to come here anymore. There are people I'd miss, but only if they vanished from AIM too, not just OB. I'm looking at you Dessy! :p And lots of others who I am not going to bother to list since they know who they are.
Haha... Well, you actually do have family on the OB. Your mom of course, lol. :] I wish she would adopt me, the only problem is. I don't think we've ever spoken. So I guess I'll remain family-less on the OB. Like Rick said, there's only a few members that post regularly. Out of... something-something thousand people, I've only seen like 1 or 200 of them post, and mantain conversations, sign in regularly, etc. When it's easy to find a certain member if they're on, or hold a conversation, like it is on OB (which I like much more than it being a huge forum) you start to understand people more, and develop emotions towards them. There's even new members I begin to like. Sabrina, for example, doesn't type like a noob, and also, is very educated when it comes to literacy. I admire that. So. Yeah. you never know when you will started getting that dysfunctional family thing going on. Honestly, my friends in my town ditch me periodically, and talk bad about everyone by their back. My best friend is in a grade below me, so we only have a few classes together, and my other good friends live like 20 miles away. So, it's nice to come home and talk with nice people, like the ones we could find on OB. (I sound like I should be running an advertisement for OB...lol.)
