1. I know what you mean, who ever heard of a man getting married and having children?
2. watching the preview, it reminded me a lot of Deep Impact. (?). I'm hoping it's not a terrible movie; it seems like it's all just focused on the special effects aspect. it could end up being pretty good though. I wouldn't mind seeing it, as long as I didn't have to pay for my ticket. :whoops:
3. you've got to give Hanson credit where it's due; unlike Backstreet Boys or NSYNC, they produce their own music (write their own lyrics and music, plus play the instruments and whatnot), including their first album. I'm sure they probably had a little help with that at first, considering the ages of the guys ranged from something like 13 to 18. but the fact alone that they could create and play music that early on is a pretty awesome thing. I think they were just milked too much in their beginning stages, like many new bands/singing groups that are geared towards teeny-bopper-type fans.
4. shouldn't the music itself be more important than who actually makes it? as long as it sounds good, I'd personally have no problem with it. just because you don't like how they sounded then doesn't mean that you'd automatically hate how they sound now. plenty of bands change their style and sound as they get older; sounds like this is just what Hanson's done, heh.
5.
Obviously that's not that recent though. I have my tickets to see Muse at the Metro this month. The 23rd, to be exact. I'm really excited about that one. I'll post in here about it if this thread is still around a couple of months from now.
I found out on Wednesday that Muse was performing in Atlanta last night. I about died, since I knew I couldn't go because of it being so last-minute. be sure to give every detail about them after you go see them, if ya don't mind, lol. anywho, I'm rooting (sp?) for you and those Pixies tickets. ^_^
6.
This guy is not crazy and let's just say he has few friends. Look at it like this. He has told me many times that he could careless about going out with her or even talking to ehr a lot. All he wants is her forgiveness but he can't get that. I see most of you think he should lose her. Be careful remember your telling him he should lose one of the only people who ever cared about him. Most people think he's obsessed. Hey, the girl was not only someone he "loved" it was also his best friend. Try losing your best friend forever and doing everything you can to try and fix it.
whether or not he thinks of her as a love or a friend, he is still obsessing about it. and considering the nature of the past events that led to her being that estranged from him, plus the situation between them now, his measures of trying to win her back can't be the same like under regular circumstances. if it bothers him so badly that he just HAS to apologize, then he needs to go ahead and get it over with. if he can't because he's not allowed to talk to her, then he needs to suck it up, accept it and move on until a time when he can. worrying about it so much in the mean time is only prolonging that time. wallowing in your own muck and waiting for someone to dig you out of it isn't going to solve anything. if you've got a problem, do something about it. you just might have to accept that things might not get any better between the two of you, no matter how much you don't want that to happen.
7. I sometimes do sound effects or imitations of some random cartoon when I'm dazed off and not paying attention to what I'm doing. being very aware that things like that become extremely annoying, I do my best to catch myself, but occasionally it slips, meh. on the less weird side, my hands tend to shake if I'm really nervous about something. like when I did my first audition for a play, I thought I managed to look pretty at ease about it, until I noticed that near the end of the monologue, the script in my hand was shaking really badly and I hadn't noticed up until then. it was kinda funny, sort of. ...yeah.
8. Drumline - I wanted to see it, since I was on a drumline and wanted to see if they actually had decent drumline-type stuff in the movie. but Nick Cannon bothered the mess out of me, and the whole movie was infuriatingly ridiculous. you wanna act like a punk and you get kicked out of band, you don't get a second chance because you're just cool enough to. the whole movie was nothing but a bunch of pathetic hot-shot egoes going head-to-head trying to look 'tuff.' Spy Kids 3: Game Over - I ended up seeing this because my friend's family wanted to see it. I had never seen a movie that made me want to leave while it was still playing up until then (until I flipped to that Scooby Doo movie on HBO one time and tried watching that -- the only reason why that's not on my 3 worst movies list is because I flipped the channel under 10 minutes). and yeah, I know it's a kid movie, but it was bad even by those standards. almost all of the acting was horribly awful and cliche in the attempt to be dramatic, the lines were corny in the attempt to sound cool, and the story was absolutely boring. this movie was nothing but cheese. nothing redeemable about it whatsoever. those are the only two movies I can think of at the moment that I've actually seen all of. I can stand most movies, so if I don't like a particular one, then I REALLY don't like it, heh. EDIT: Chichiri's Girl reminded me of Eight Crazy Nights. just take everything that she said about it and apply it here.
9. *sigh* look dude, I know how you feel, probably a lot moreso than you think I do. but you're not doing anything to help yourself. if you want to stop hurting, then you're going to have to get over her. but with you staring at her when the first opportunity arises......MAN, what's WRONG with you?! :nono: you're not going to get anywhere if you fix your undivided attention on the thing you're trying to forget. it sounds like you don't even want to get over her. maybe it's because since it's so natural for you to think of her all the time when you have been for such a long time, you're afraid that you won't know what to do with yourself if you don't have her influencing your thoughts anymore. and you're right, pills and psychiatrists aren't going to help you, if you don't take any personal steps to change your way of thinking yourself. now I'm going to give you some advice. think of all the stuff that reminds you of her, like pictures, CD's (pay attention to music especially), maybe certain books or movies, and even hobbies or activities. concerning all that stuff, put them away and don't think of them. take all the material items and stuff them in the back of your closet for the time being. you said yourself that you were doing a bit better once you'd gone a while without seeing her. well, you're basically doing the same thing here, except this deals with material things that remind you how you think of her. I know it's not possible to completely get her out of your mind, but this will certainly give you a jump start on it. now that your CD rack and dresser top is literally empty and bare, start looking into new things. use this internet thing to look up different bands and types of music you could consider getting into. pick up a new hobby. read different books you normally wouldn't think of reading. drive around for a while and check out different sights or stores you haven't been in before. do ANYTHING NEW that you haven't done before, assuming it's legal. hopefully that was a no-brainer. :wigout: I'm not saying you have to abandon everything you had before forever, but if I were you, I'd wait to start in on that stuff again until a time when I was emotionally stable enough to handle it. if you start feeling solidly normal and, dare I say, HAPPY , start taking stuff out bit by bit and going over it like you would have over all that new stuff from before, and make it part of your world of new stuff. you don't want to overwhelm your new self with too many old memories at once. as for dealing with her in the present tense, if you have to see her at school, use some self-control and don't do so much as look in her direction. fight it! preoccupy yourself by reading on the bus if you have to. the whole point of this 5,000-word essay is to preoccupy yourself so you don't think about her so much, or to at least fill your mind with other things so that when you do think about her, it won't be the only thing on your mind.
10. well, I was on the drumline both this year and last year, last year as a quint player and this year as a snare player, and I can sing a little. piano would have to be my main thing though. I can play decently, though if you were to put some big-time classical piece in front of me, it'd probably take me a year to learn it, lol. it's still lots of fun though, so yay. ^_^
11.
Well since no one seems to have answered your question, yes you are basically right. However only the very best make it to that level. Mormons believe in the "three degrees of glory" or 3 heavens and only those who are righteous enough to get to the top one get to do all that cool stuff.
yeah, you can create worlds if you get to the highest celestial degree of heaven, but there's nothing anywhere about some 'secret name' for your 'multiple wives' or something, lol.
...Then one summer when I was 14 I came home from camp to find we were Mormon. And people don't just become Mormon overnight. I was forced to go to seminary every day before school so I learned just about everything you could ever want to know about Latter Day Saint beliefs. It's got some cool ideas but like every religion it's also got some hypocritical people which is something I can't tolerate.
seminary is pretty tough, especially if you're having to get up at 5 or before five every morning, meh. still trying to get used to that bit, lol. I don't really appreciate hypocritical people either, but if you were to join a religion, shouldn't it be because you believe or feel that it's the right one, rather than go off of what people who obviously don't care for it do or think about it? because just like you said, there's always going to be hypocritical people in every religion, and just about any other sort of group with a cause. it's just one of those things you can't do anything about, seeing as that's their business as to whether or not they're 'living like they preach'. by all means, if you don't believe it's the right church then that's fine, but you should be joining (or not joining) a church because of the religion rather than because of the people is what I've always thought.
12. I find that when I'm at school or other public-peer places and not around anyone I know at the time, I'll get one of those "tuff," I'm-dark-and-don't-care-about-anything expressions on my face. probably because out of my years of middle school, I learned fairly early that people who seem shy are the ones who get the most unwanted attention. one of those "let's see if she does anything if I do/say this!"-type deals. my "tuff" exterior is my method of survival and adaptation, meh. if you at least look like you'd give 'em what-for if they bothered you, they usually don't. those that do get safety pins shot up their voodoo dolls' . not really :shifty: . but I don't worry about that as much, so it's all decent. other than that one bit, I'm usually pretty good about making sure I don't put on some facade, even if I do tend to tone down the more out-there parts of my personality to what'd be appropriate, lol.
13. I was disappointed that Cold Mountain didn't get best song for "You Will Be My Ain True Love." I hadn't ever heard it before, but when they performed it at the award show I was knocked off of my feet. it seems to be a fairly simple song, but it sounded so beautifully haunting that it didn't even matter. it sure made a lot more of an impact on me than "Into the West" did. I've never even seen Cold Mountain before, but from the way the song sounded I could picture my own landscape; out in some secluded meadow near a forest in summer just before the break of dawn, when everything is still tinted blue. I would buy the Cold Mountain soundtrack for that song alone. meh, it wouldn't surprise me if LotR just got Best Song because they won everything else, lol.
14.
I was just about to ask which of this stuff is mainstream, and what isn't. But why should I stay away from Simple Plan and those other groups? Are they at all like Good Charlotte? I have plenty of punk and emo bands to keep me happy for a while, but I might check those bands out as well, even if they are mainstream. (I'm not too particular, but usually when I pick up a new mainstream band, people always call me a poser.)
I don't dislike certain groups/bands just because they're considered mainstream. Simple Plan just rubs me the wrong way, badly. their lyrics alone are a major turn-off. nothing but a bunch of adults (or near adults, I don't know how old they are  ) whining like children that their lives are so horrible. sure, if they wrote their songs like that to try to relate to 'angsty' preteens who think they're lives are so 'rough' because nothing goes how they want it to, then whatever. that type of thing just doesn't appeal to me is all. if you want specific examples, I'm just a kid and life is a nightmare I'm just a kid, I know that its not fair Nobody cares, cause I'm alone and the world is Having more fun than me Tonight... I feel so bad for them. really. .... Last night I just wanted to have fun To go out with my friends I took my dad's car I never thought he would find out But I crashed in a wall Man I'm dead I guess it's no use I'm screwing up ever little thing I ever try to do I was born to lose Yeah yeah yeah yeah well yeah, if he does something stupid like that, then he deserves to get screwed over. throw a pity party in the mean time. Last night I had to study for this test I forgot man I'm dead And now my brain is bursting out of my head I can't think I can't breathe Once again I guess it's no use I'm screwing up every little thing I ever try to do I'm born to lose Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah like man, you are dead, man. geez. great lyrics. God Must hate me He cursed me for eternity God Must hate me Maybe you should pray for me I'm breaking down and you can't save me I'm stuck in Hell and I wanna go home So what in the world am I supposed to do? I never did anything to you So can't you find something else to do? yep, it's God's fault he tried taking off with his dad's car and didn't study for that big-deal test. besides the awesome lyrics, the music's nothing special either, in my opinion. one of my younger sisters has that CD, so I've heard it before. it's not worth any fifteen odd dollars of mine, I'll tell you that.
15.
Personally, I like infomercials because they're so ridiculous. George Foreman Grills, knives cutting copper pipes and spray-on hair... it's all fun to watch. I especially love the ones where there is a crowd and they yell "SET IT AND FORGET IT!!!!!" Man, they sure are enthsiastic. I think they care more about that little rotisserie oven than I care about most things that should actually be important to me heh.
:mrt:..no wait, wrong person... watching those George Foreman Grill infomercials always made me want to buy a cheeseburger. not buy something to make my own cheeseburgers with. the thing that's always aggravating about when they try to sell you stuff like that (including on those minute-long advertisements where you "Call Toll Free!") is when they say you get two or three other items along with your original purchase, "totalling to be a $70 value, absolutely FREE!" I'm like, bullcrap. I could get all that at Dollar General for under 10 bucks. and you know all that stuff they're trying to sell you probably came straight from the dollar store anyway. bleh.
16.
Good Charlotte isn't punk ~_^ They're what I like to call Modern Pop. Anyhow, Emo isn't necessarily a genre, but any style of music singing about love issues and things like that. My friends all hate it, but I really don't mind. They're talking about things like Coldplay (If I'm getting it right).
......0_o' Coldplay is nothing like emo. lots of different bands sing about love or whatnot, but it doesn't make them emo, lol.......lol. Simple Plan bites. I've always been under the impression that emo was obnoxious punk with lyrics talking about how they missed their girlfriends and whined that their parents are unfair and horrible *cough*Simple Plan*cough*. but that information came from rather biased people, so don't listen to me. Simple Plan bites. so yeah, recommendations. .... if you want punk music that doesn't sound too pop-y, you could try MXPX. and from what I've heard of 'em, the Warped Tour Compilations are good, too. just get a track list of one of those things, listen to bits of each of the bands, and see what you like from there. that's one way to namedrop, anyway. Simple Plan bites. why? here's just one specific example of why they irk me.
17.
This is like making a "Who likes Gangsta Rap and Country Western Music?" thread. Techno and classic rock are so different that I don't even know how to approach this thread. The topic is so broad lol.
LOL, at first I thought you wrote "This topic is so closed lol." guess I shouldn't skim ^_^'. GAWD, I LOVE The Whistle Song! it's so freaking addictive that I can do that sucker on Standard mode; that's sayin' something, considering I'm an uncoordinated dork -- imagine how many times I had to play that thing to get that far. other than that, the only techno I've heard is from Daft Punk, Moby, and Paul Oakenfold, all of which I love. oh yeah, and that DDR stuff, too. AFROMAN'll get stuck in my head for days. then again, I'm just calling all that techno because I don't know the difference between electronica and techno. but don't get technical on me. :mrt: the only classic rock-ish CD I own is a volume of Queen's best hits. I pretty much only got it because it had Bohemian Rhapsody on it *meesh*. and I never end up listening to it much because while half the songs are really good, the other half bore me to death. yay.
18. oh man, there are times when I'd been in the happiest mood until I put in some CD with some sad songs on it, and stayed in a funk for the rest of the day. *herm*, that could also have to do with the fact that I'm an emotional fruitcake packed in a basketcase, but whatever. I can't listen to music while I'm doing stuff anymore, or I won't get anything done. I'll unconciously stop what I'm doing so I can have my full concentration on the music; before I know it, I've spent an hour listening to a CD when I was supposed to be doing homework, lol. I pretty much only listen to music when I'm riding in a car or on a bus now. >.>' as for personal preferences, dang-it-all, I'll listen to almost anything. almost. I stay away from most hip-hop and stuff like ICP. and country. "That's just too much of a stretch." *a hundred BILLion dollars to anyone who knows where that's from*. I'm strangely enough getting more into some pop now. granted, of course there's still pop that's not good at all, but you find stuff like that in any genre anyway. not all of pop's as full of crap as some people insist it is. but nowadays anything that's mainstream is automatically garbage, don'tcha know.
19. well, a song that immediately comes to mind is Coldplay's The Scientist. it describes this 'situation,' if you could call it that, that's going on with someone right now, and the first time I heard the song I put it on repeat for almost an hour. it really hit home for me, which probably wasn't the best thing at the time, lol. it's one of those sad, slow songs that get stuck in your, *psh* my head all the time. The Scientist Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry You don't know how lovely you are I had to find you, tell you I need you Tell you I set you apart Tell me your secrets, and ask me your questions Oh let's go back to the start Running in circles, coming up tails Heads on a science apart Nobody said it was easy Oh it's such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said that it would be this hard Oh take me back to the startI was just guessing at numbers and figures Pulling the puzzles apart Questions of science, science and progress Do not speak as loud as my heart Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me Oh and I rush to the start Running in circles, chasing our tails Coming back as we areNobody said it was easy Oh it's such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be so hard I'm going back to the start
20. I honestly didn't care that much for it the first time I saw it. it was a little interesting to look at, but certainly not enough to hang in my house. and after reading the description of the picture, I couldn't help but not like it even more. religion is part of my reason for that, but seeing as that's what's been a pretty big part of my life since I've committed myself to it, it can't help but affect my opinion on it. on a different note, if religion wasn't an issue, seeing an unappealing picture of a figurine in urine isn't really all that great anyway. you could drop one of those green army men in there instead, and I'd have the same opinion on it, lol. I don't think I'd care much about the urine thing if I actually liked how it looked to begin with though. I think for a picture to be considered a piece of art, it has to be pleasing to look at, if not a good deal interesting at least. saying that, I also think that art is more of an opinion than an absolute thing. I may happen to like a picture that's totally off-the-wall and think it's the greatest thing ever created, but if someone else was to look at at, they could think it was the biggest piece of tripe they'd ever seen. meanings/symbolism may make some art more important, but if I don't like the way it looks, I can just read up on a couple of essays about what the picture stands for, and be perfectly content to never look at it again, lol. which would kind of defeat the purpose, seeing as pictures are made to be looked at. :whoops:
21. man, that must feel odd. "You had a good soundboard working for you, but your music still sucks." heh, maybe not quite like that, but I hope I made some point. anywho, I'm still glad Coldplay got something. that's just about the only thing I'm happy to hear about Grammy-wise though.
22. darnit, ya beat me to it. Valentine's Day is great! if you happen to have someone to buy you stuff. :p usually it's the people who don't get stuff are the ones who gripe about it. but the year you do get something you like, it's all great and stuff. meh, I don't expect to be getting anything this year, but no big. I can be jealous for two days (Friday and Saturday this year >.>') and get over it by Sunday.
23. wow, I thought that last episode was awesome. I had to write down some quick notes to help me remember who I wanted to vote for, and I figured I might as well write down my comments here. it was kinda fun to see how my comments compared to the judges'. not that I'm somebody who has room to judge singing :p, but I do know a good bit about music and performing, so I know at least a little of what I'm talking about. so here's what I came up with. 1.) Diana - performance was perfect; cute look and upbeat personality; stage presence and energy definitely there. Score: 10 2.)Marque - good voice, but it sounds generic; not a lot of stage presence; personality quirks kind of annoyed me. Score: 6 3.) Ashley - good voice, but hit a couple of really weird notes; handled comments well. Score: 7 4.) Katie - looks the part; awesome performance; the higher notes were a little weak, but not very noticeably so. Score: 9 5.) Erskire - not as vocally talented, but had more energy than Mark; worked well with the song; beginning was weak Score: 6 6.) Jennifer - lots of energy; strong voice; some of the notes were..... lost (?) Score: 7 7.) Matthew - good voice, but not very strong; overall performance was still good though; some note problems (I think in the beginning, but I can't remember). Score: 7 8.) Fantasia - I don't prefer her voice timbre, but it suits her, and she sounded great; very unique; just as good as Diana's performance, if not better. Score: 10 yeah, so I'm gonna be voting for Diana and Fantasia, obviously lol. it'd be cool if Katie could come back on as a wild card so far.
24. all I usually have to do to get to sleep is either do my homework in bed, or watch some T.V. Listening to music doesn't do it for me anymore, because I'll concentrate on the music too much for me to zonk myself out. if none of that works, pull an all-nighter, and try staying awake all of the next day. I guarantee you'll be feeling it by at least third period. shouldn't have any problem sleeping then, meh.
25. that was certainly a good read. I wasn't too impressed with the third Terminator movie, but at least now I know there was some point in making it. I dunno. it has a good underrunning message, but the 'delivery', like it was said, wasn't that great, I guess. just seemed like it was the previous two Terminator movies repeating themselves, except I felt like it was lacking in something this time around. maybe if James Cameron had directed this one as well, it would've turned out better, lol.
