I feel or you. I bought (with my own money) Outlaw Star Collections 1 and 3, and my sister bought 2. Well, I kinda left them laying around the house, and... my parents found them. It annoyed the heck outta me, because those are 2-disc collections, and they now think a lot of anime is 'bad' for you. My dad doesn't mind things like violence and stuff... He likes movies where a lot of people die. Humans.

My parents make fun of me occasionally but not really too much. They don't really see it as childish, it's just that I love it so much, I'm an easy target. But they're pretty open minded about this kind of stuff.
Had to quote you for writing that so I don't have to.
My best friend's parents think anime is stupid. They say it's sick and wrong. We just point out to them that they should be glad we're interested in other cultures art. That shuts them up now and then, but they still don't like it.
...Oh well, my parents don't really care. :)

I just felt like putting this out there cause im so tired of seeing it at the bookstore and hearing it from my folks...

I constantly hear parents telling there kids "You should read real books not that stuff" or ask "When are you gonna stop reading that kids stuff and start a real novel"

Im sitting here trying to get kids interested in this stuff and I feel like I have parents running behind me sabotaging...

I dont understand this consensus with alot of ppl in america that simply because a story is visually oriented that its for children...They cant think for a second it could have a deep story or that its nice to look at the artwork?

I feel like the biggest thing thats holding back Anime/Manga these days from spreading faster are ignorant parents that dont even seem to want to take the time to look at this stuff to see its quality...Sighz very frustrating...:drunk:

My mother assumed it was childish from the days where I was infatuated with Pokemon (I'm over that now :)). Then she saw the Evangelion episode where Misato and Kaji were kissing in the elevator, no nudity, just kissing with some sounds. She instantly assumes all anime has to do with pornography (she doesn't know the term hentai so >_<). At least she hasn't banned me from watching the series (had a tiny argument). I'm not watching End of Evangelion with her though...it isn't that bad as most people make it out to be, but parents usually go berserk over any little bit of nudity in anything at all. I'm quite confused in that she watched Princess Mononoke with me, with all the blood and gore. She didn't have that much of a problem with it. Strange how she thinks blood and gore and heads falling off isn't that bad, but a little nudity is...I guess after buying some video games with slight violence in them gave her a tolerance for the bloody stuff. Hmm.

As for my dad, he's more reasonable. I've tried to help him understand that it isn't childish or just "cartoons." Instead, I explained to him the difference between anime (ableit the good ones) and American cartoons. Though I don't think he got it. >_< Letting him listen to some of the music helps too, as the music in anime usually are of high quality. That raised his opinion of anime more. :) Besides, he IS the one who bought the Evangelion series for me, so thats a plus. :)

As for watching anime, I just watch it at the computer (where I am right now) downstairs in the study room. No one really comes down here (unless my mom or dad uses the comp), so I can watch as long as the volume is down. :)

This happened to me for several months, and I just gave money to my friends and told them to buy anime for me.You could order it off a website and have them deliver it to a friend's house, and then just have the friend give it to you. That sounds kinda complicated, ne?
Your city must be big.

Mine don't really care, but they just want to make sure that I don't get caught up in a dream world, that I take so seriously and that I remember to have fun with it as a hobbie. NOT my entire life. I don't care though, anime is so cool. My Mom and Dad just don't understand it, and they think it's going turn me into a total nerd...but oh well. They think anime is just cartoons,( and I mean like little kid cartoons), but they're wrong. I love anime, and my parents just don't understand the concept of anime cartoons, and I don't think they want to either.

My dad HATES anime! If he had his way he'd take all animes in the world and nuke them in a microwave. :butthead: He keeps trying to ban me from watching any anime but I really don't give a flip what he thinks. Luckily my mom's a lot cooler about the stuff and doesn't care unless there is nudity and "action".

My parents hate anime. One day, my mom went on a rampage and tore and pulled all of my anime posters off the wall and into the trash.:flaming: :flaming: :flaming: She also took all of my video gaming and anime magazines away. Luckily she didn't find my stash of manga. She saw a litlle fighting acton of Fushigi Yugi and now I am never alllowed to buy or rent anime products ever again!! She said that if she finds out about me renting, buying, or borrowing and more anime/manga, she'll freak, go on another rampage. The manga that I alreadyt bought would definitely head to the trash for sure...if you could help me out or something, please do.:bawl::bawl:

MY parents don't really mind.. Though I keep myself from reading or watching anything above 13+... They trust me. ^_^' However, I'm planning on buying Evangelion DVDs.. Let's just pray they don't see any ecchi scenes...

My dad actually LIKES Speed Racer... He watched it when he was little...

He also mispronounces everything. Naruto is "Naw-roo-too" to him... >_<

That sure was an overreaction if I've ever seen one, and the thing is, I'd bet that this person wouldn't react the same way to a Hollywood movie with the same exact content.

Blah. I so hate the double standards that some people have. ^sigh^

My parents don't care about what I watch, just as long as it doesn't have sex scenes, or plain scenes with sex noise lol

My parents dpn't realy care about wha5t i watch since they caught me looking at porn when i was 9.. ( WWHHHAAATTT?! realy didn't mean anything to me back then..) they just say " you've seen enough not to realy care..so, yeah u can have anything that isn't above PG-13 " and stuff like that. The only thing my mom dispises are Yu-Gi-oh cards ( cuz they have demons in them and stuff..>.< ) so she made me seel all of those, which didn't realy bother me, i just bought some Love Hina Magna with it.. My (very religious) mother and grandmother took one look at X the Movie and decided that anime was spawned in Hell as a tool of the devil to mislead unsuspecting teenagers. I'm so utterly serious you should feel sorry for me. As long as they don't actually SEE the majority of what I'm watching (InuYasha all chock-full of demons, Hellsing with its relgious babble, Gundam Wing's Treize Khushrenada's statements on God, my single La Blue Girl tape, etc.) I won't be heckled. They know I deal in some pretty freaky stuff, anyway, and leave me to my freedom of expression; they're tolerance is astounding. But my life would just get way too complicated for comfort's sake if they got hold of La Blue Girl. (I'd wild out my child, too, if I caught them with that freaky vid.)

My mom is very religious as well and is super protective. She doesn't really mind me watching Gundam or Kenshin but she has major issues with Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha. I am still able to sneak eps. in though. ;) She thinks yu-gi-oh and pokemon are extremely evil and even if i was just changing channels after my show was over and she saw a commercial for either of them i would be banned off tv for the rest of the day and tomorrow.

My dad hates anime. He called is japanimation and makes fun of it and says nobody barely moves. I mean that's true in a sense. But their mouths move and their heads don't. Maybe they are just standing there with their mouths moving.

My parents aren't white trash, really. They accept that fact that other cultures (even ones that made horrible mistakes in the past, America isn't a Saint nation) have their own thing and are not about to "dislike anime." They may dislike certain animes, but not because they are Japanese animation.
