In the town that i live in we kind of have names we call certain groups of people;
chav: person who listens to garage and r'n'b wears shirts with the collar up.
Grunger: Person who listen's to mushroom heads,Slipknot and Korn exc. wears black hoodies, chains and dog collars.
Goth: kinda like a grunger except they make there skin look white, paint their nails black and wear much more black stuff.
Wot would you say you were.
Me i'm just myself, I wear what i want to wear and i listen to wot i want to listen to.

um...a grunger minus the all black and chains.

I listen to rock music, and dress normal. Tight low riders, and usally right now a tank top, or shorts and a tee, whatever.

I look normal and one day someone( let's call them cc) was saying listen to this...

and I was like yeah that's "living dead girl" by rob zombie.

They were all shocked that I knew that, and I asked why and they said I didn't look like a rocker.

I said" what do I look like then?"

cc: "pop and good girl stuff"

me: "good girl stuff....u don't know me very well..." and I walked away

So I guess I'm a rocker who, looks pop, but with heavy eyeliner on....lol

As for me, I really do not like stereotypes, which in turn makes me a hypocrite because I love to exploit stereotypes in other people, lol. It is always with the greatest of sarcasm, though.

I suppose if I was to categorize myself, I would simply have to go with punk. People can call me what they want, frankly I do not care. Whatever helps them sleep at night. I am too many things to simply be lumped into one spot (though, punk has developed a much broader definition these days).

I have been called gay. I have been called bisexual. I have been called punk. I have been called goth. I have been called an ***hole. I have been called "the sweetest guy". I have been called a lot of things, but just because someone says it is so, even if it is I who says it, does not make it true.

Most of my friends have said that they most often describe me to other people by just saying that I "am just (insert my name here)". They even say I have my own gender, sexual preference, image, etc.

That is all I have for now.

[edit] Good chryst, just look at my banner in my signature. It goes from crazy skull thingy, to pretty pink lady, lol. o_O;

Heh, Piro, I always did wonder about the skull/Asuka thing in your signature...

As for myself...the most typical reply that I get on what I 'look like' is A STUPID *****. I guess you can't be good looking and be nice or smart, but you can be bitchy and stupid. Go figure :p

I'm not stupid, nor am I a ***** all of the time, so stereotyping me is a fruitless effort for most people :D

So, the true 'stereotype' category that I fit into would probably be classy-trendsetter. I really just have my own style, but I also follow current high fashion pretty strictly. I just can't afford expensive designer things, so I tend to buy my fashions at much more affordable places. I make it sound like fashion is my life, but it's not...I've just always been known to have this unique style that I get complimented on a lot.

I follow fashion because cutting-edge style is appealing to me. I don't think I could ever really dress in the goth or grunge-ish styles...definitely not me :drunk:

Stereyotypes are smelly. I get called the weirdest things sometimes.. I normally don't care what they say, unless I am really offended, lol.

I guess normally I wear any old t-shirt/shirt, if it's cold I'd wear my trenchcoat thingy too, 3/4 length shorts (if I wear shorts I pull my socks up too =P) or loose fitting pants.

I sometimes paint my nails.. depends if I can be bothered to. If I'm going out somewhere, like arranged and stuff, I may. I also adorn myself in many braclets, necklaces and accessories.

Where I live there is this constant grudge against different stereotypes. If I don't walk the right way home at night with my friends at any time, I risk getting beaten up because I wear what I want. It sounds really stupid, but not very fun when it actually happens.. and I never fight back because they'd get their friends on me, and their friends' friends also. It's so dumb.

quite the contrary(i dont know if i missed an ar or not in that word. )

Albeit some of the good looking girls i know are complete idiots, most of them are very smart. The ones that can be anyway. Where I live, it's perfectly ok for you to be completely attractive, and completely retarded at the same time. it's even encouraged.

You, BG, are very smart, but I think I've complimented you enough over the years.

Myself, I dont even know what to put me in. Like i've said before. After we graduate, my class will look back, and go..."Hey, i saw that guy a couple times. never really knew him though....oh well. HEY THERE'S BOBBY!!!!"

The typical stereotypes about the popular people ['preps'], 'goths', and 'punks' are stupid. What do we judge them by? What they wear? What they listen to?

I listen to the Backstreet Boys and System of a Down. What does that make me? The prep/goth? Oh, wait, the real goths think I'm a poser since System of a Down isn't the 'real stuff'.

Right.

And the former comment is the core issue of the stereotypical stereotype discussion.

[Oh, the irony.]

As for your latter comment, I listen to System of a Down as well. And when I'm in a bad mood I enjoy listening to them almost as much as I love a new pair of stilettos! Wee! Stereotype groups are silly! :excited:

As I said in the last High-School stereotyping thread, even though this is just general stereotyping and not just high school, people don't want to be stereotyped because they want to be unique. Even though I find Stereotyping to be very accurate.

I'm more of a die-hard videogame geek, along with a little bit of hacker nerd.

Why in the world would you call someone who doesn't even listen to grunge a "grunger"?

Music-based labels never make any sense to me. Generally the people that form them know nothing about the genre or the individuals that are interested in it.

I listen to pretty much any genre honestly. Metal, punk, hip hop, country, classical, etc. I don't know that I could be stuffed into any one category in that sense. I just like music.

As for my style of clothing. I just buy what I like. It might be some leather coat or some old army coat, a ski cap or a Bears hat, boots or Vans or Converse All-Stars, dress shirts or band shirts... it goes on and on.

I just do, say, listen to and wear what I feel like at the time. Whatever I'm labeled thanks to that at the time, I can't say I really care. I enjoy myself.

I'm amazed by the fascination that many Americans seem to have with stereotypes. I know that they exist around the world, but American teens seem to love pigeonholing other kids into very specific categories. It's as if this makes socialising more palatable in some weird way. lol

It's like when Piro was correcting me on the kind of weapon that a punk would use...I mean, the difference was between a knife and a baseball bat or something. I just thought that it was very amusing. ^_^

I personally don't fit into any of the stereotypes that are listed above. And I must say, I don't think very many people do. I mean, when you look at what someone wears...you might stereotype them into one group. But if you actually knew them (and all sides of their personality), you might think a bit differently.

I don't really try to avoid being a stereotype or anything...and I don't try overly hard to "be different" just for the sake of it. I'm just me. I really don't think about the kind of image I'm projecting to the world, in terms of what I wear or what music I listen to. I am how I am...and that's about it.

The outcast. I don't wear the "in" stuff, I don't listen to the most popular music, I don't go to parties, and I don't like most of the people at school.

Oh geez, stereotypes. I've thought about this a few times, and I really can't think of any stereotype I fit into fully, like a few of you have said. Yay for us, messing with society's minds ^_^

Well, just looking at my taste in music... I like Placebo and Matchbox 20, who are two very different bands. Then there's my recent interest in Gareth Gates, who has absolutely nothing in common with the other music I like, lol. But anyway, I try not to stereotype myself. It's too confusing, for one thing.

I suppose someone who doesn't know me too well could stereotype me a lot easier than I can. I'm sure there are a lot of people at school who think of me as a 'loser', or a weirdo (actually, that last one is pretty accurate). But if they got to know me, that stereotype might change. Although most of my friends think I'm weird anyway, lol.

My school depends so much on stereotypes, it wouldn't run without them. All the coolness, the loserness, and ****. Everyone fits into a category, not one kide is left out. And it sucks.

Face it. The world wouldn't turn without them, stereotypes.

Gee. Where would i be? I listen to Rap. I listen to Classical. I listen to pop. I listen to techno. I listen to rock. I wear. clothes. not any particular syle. A bit of a silly topic, because the idea and attitude of steretyping is pointless, and often incorrect. It constantly happens, but is pretty 'out' in regard to accuracy at judging a person.

Stereotyping was never overly accurate, because its such a gross generalisation of several achetypes.
Stereotyping is pretty much always negative, because it doesn't take into account certain differences between people and a group, and these differences are normally something this person doesn't like about the group.
Stereotypiing simply makes it easier for people to make fun of other groups, by finding something they don't like about that stereotype and applying it to someone whether they really follow with what they're being called or not.

If you wanted to classify me, (which I think is perfectly fine because I don't see anything wrong about what I'm called) I would be referred to as a Muso. All I do is listen to music, write music and play music. So yeah, thats pretty self explanitary.

But how do people define what they wear by music? Is there some rule that I don't know about that states each genre of music must have it's own dress code? If I were to dress according to the different types of music I listen to, I would look...strange. How would kids that listened to classical music dress? And James, down in the swamp I live in, people actually want to be known by those stereotypes. A Hot Topic store opened up in our mall a while ago and now people are wearing chainbelts, dressing in black, hissing, and calling themselves Goths. I guess it's Halloween everyday for them. ;)

Guest dayday
Well, I can't find anyone I'm like. I am just me. I wear anything I think I like and is comfortable. Usually just baggy clothes that aren't sucking the life out of me. I listen to R&B Slowjams mostly and sometimes maybe rap. It depends on what it is. I am kinda like a loner. I stick to myself and refuse to be in a group. And yes, sometimes I do go into corners and sit quietly. But I can open up and join people sometimes if I know them and am comfortable. Most of the time I'm just shy which people think is cute. I hate it when that happens.

When I am very comfortable to who I am talking to I open up more than I think I can. I talk about stuff I hate and think it's funny. But I think everything's funny. I like to be rough with people if I don't like them. I get into fights all the time and people think I'm just covering up. Most of the time I won't hurt the person much and just choke them a little. No one knows how to get me to open up. Sometimes I won't but still stick around for a while.

Online, I'm the opposite. I talk endlessly and play tricks on people. Especially Ruby. I even put it in my sig. In life people call me by my real name or dayday. Here, I'm dayday or Cupid. ^_^ Now I just can't stop.
