In an attempt to make this thread feel less...I guess you can say, menial, here's a burning question I'll pose that I believe is relevant:

Why is it that, if a male [teen] loses his virginity, he's applauded and high fived by all his buddies, but if a female [teen] loses her virginity, more often than not, she's looked down upon and called "whorish" and "sluttish"?

Maybe this exists only in media, but I've had friends the latter has happened to before.
As anyone who has had sex will know (or at least most people who have), this statement is pretty much false.

Yes, your first time is memorable. But it doesn't mean that every other time is similar or the same as each other. In fact, you will often find that you have more memorable experiences after your first time. This is likely because you've gained experience and/or you're with a partner who is also more experienced (and thus, the whole thing is a lot better).

Sex is not really a black-and-white thing, it's something that can and does change over time. Your 1,000th time can often be even more memorable or unique than your first time. It just depends who you're with and what the situation is.
And anyone who reads science literature (and consults people with more sexual experience than themselves) will tell you it's true. =P

I never said you PERCEIVE the first time as your most unique, nor did I say that you will PERCEIVE the rest as the same. Hell, you can convince yourself the the most unique sex was with Rosy and Her Five Friends - or with a dead corpse. I'm not going to argue on something so subjective.

As I said before, I'm referring to hormones creating an imprint in the brain. That won't change or improve (to as significant a degree) as your first time. I was just explaining that the first time isn't as trivial as people were making it out to be, not trivializing the other times. It's unique and there's a reason for that, so stop bashing the first time even if it wasn't your best time (how disappointing that would be, it just gets worse over time? Nothing to look forward to after the first time?).

I never said the other times will be forgotten or not unique. Hell, I never said it was the BEST either. HORMONALLY, however, first time is unique. It is totally different from the rest of the times, no matter how amazing those other times are - or you convince yourself they are. Just because it is the most unique from a hormonal perspective, doesn't mean it is the best time. If a rush of hormones explained everything about love and happiness, we wouldn't have so many unknowns and problems in those fields, would we?

And before anyone says anything about the above:
People who have slept with more than one person: I'm not saying you can't love your current partner as much as you did your first. I'M NOT, get over it and don't deviate from my point to defend yourself from nothing.

Joking aside, I get the incriminating feeling I know what you might be thinkin'. But you're right, it's best to leave it be; I'd rather not have a religious debate in here.

I imagine it must be media influence, among other things. That, and there's the whole deal where women are generally perceived to be the 'better' of the two genders [not my opinion, just general observation], so therefore, have higher standards to be expected in terms of morality. Then again, there's the whole deal with how they were treated in the past...but I'm just gonna let that lie for now. I don't want my butt chewed out.

Also, James, well-put about the non-virgins taking the thread's virginity. As the creator of this thread, I will take the liberty of the meaning you took my virginity as well. Now if you excuse me, I need to spam all the sexually active people on my buddy list with PMs screaming "YOU TOOK MY VIRGINITY!!!!!!!!!"

XP
Don't you mean aspects of Mormonism Beth? :p I understand it's quite different than other Christian religions. To put it in a nutshell without any intent to start a debate... [if it does I'm sure you'll smack me Beth XP] Anyway...

The Mormon position on women has changed little since the early 1800's, when the official view was that "woman's primary place is in the home, where she is to rear children and abide by the righteous counsel of her husband". This attitude, coupled with the doctrine of polygamy and the absolute power claimed by the men of the church, created a legacy of profound sexism which modern Mormonism has been unable to escape.

Mormons, and particularly Mormon girls, are commanded to remain completely chaste until marriage. Girls grow up believing that their virginity is what makes them worth marrying, and they are told that "If you sully your body by allowing boys to touch it in forbidden ways...no good man will ever want to marry you"

The Mormon view has and continues to place the blame solely on the woman instead of placing equal blame and responsibility on the man for such an occurrence. So the kids are raised to believe that it's the woman's fault. They'll try to pretend otherwise, but its one of the reason's I left the religion myself. Well one of many reasons since that's only one aspect I do not agree with. WHAT IS THIS MONSTER I HAVE CREATED?!

I'm just gonna answer the nice questions the starter posed. I'm bored anyway.

1. Do you have anyone who you'd like to take your virginity?
Anyone that actually exists? Nope.

2. How or where would you like to loose your virginity?
Er, in a bed...perferably with sheets...and blankets...mattress...pillow...yeah.

3. Are any conditions you consider that must be met for you to loose your virginity?
Marriage. I don't believe in giving up your virginity until you're married. If you don't, then you don't. [I'm friends with virgins and non-virgins alike, so it's not like I'm gonna force that onto anyone]. But I personally find no point in it unless your love is proved to be concrete, and to me, that's proven by marriage. [Of course, there's always divorce and arranged marriages...but those are entirely different matters]. I dunno, people talking about sex as if it's just pure recreation bugs me. I hold sex in high regard as the ultimate symbol of love. Maybe that's just me.

4. How does it feel being a virgin? Are you ever made fun of for it?
I take pride in it. And yeah, I have. But heck, I've had non-virgins tell me there's nothing wrong with being a virgin, so up theirs [the mockers]. :P

I suppose I will touch on this bit though, not singling anyone out but rather explaining why I don't consider being a virgin important, at least not for me. Now keep in mind I'm not picking on you per se but rather the view that one should hold out for marriage. ^_~
3. Are any conditions you consider that must be met for you to loose your virginity?

I hold sex in high regard as the ultimate symbol of love. Maybe that's just me.
Now normally I'd probably agree with this, since I do not sleep with someone unless I care about them. But at the same time there's the issue of losing your virginity though no fault of your own. I'm sure you can guess what I'm referring to but I'll spell it out just the same. Rape.

Now given what Rach just mentioned, as a Mormon girl, getting raped, even though I wasn't even quite eight years old, was still viewed as if I did something wrong somehow. And the sheer hell of being tormented over something that was not my fault since the adults refused to believe what happened... well it just makes the point of being a virgin useless to me.

I can't wait for marriage, I can't wait for love. That first time was taken from me. So instead I grew up and decided that sex would be special because it would be with someone I cared about, not because of some of the more standard views going around. [primarily those Mormon ones] Including the, marriage aspect. It's the person that makes it special for me.

And I'll leave it at that since I have other views as far as marriage goes and that would just open up the can of worms even further. :p Which is pointless really, everyone sees things differently and there's nothing wrong with that. ^_^

Now I'll back out of this and let other people get a word in edgewise.

I was just notified today that some people have sex whenever they are bored.

Absolutely terrible IMO. I have no issue with cuddling with a partner when bored and maybe sharing a book, or maybe a somewhat cliche romantic scene for a couple. But sex just to relieve boredom somehow seems even worse than sex itself.

Also, I kind of understand what some people are saying about the first time being awkward, but something to consider- by waiting for the first time, you get to share that awkward moment with someone you might be with the rest of your life, and later on in life might just look back at your first time and enjoy what you see.

Hmm an interesting point Odin. I've known people who use sex to alleviate boredom and I do share your view on this. There is sooooo much you can do with your partner than intercourse that can alleviate boredom. My personal favorite is cooking up a meal and sharing it with them at the nearest park. That's always fun because seeing how much trouble they took or you took to prepare the meal is heartwarming and it definitely builds on the relatationship.

Ugh, I think that I took this thread's virginity because I was the first person who isn't a virgin to post. Now I feel horrible. Excuse me while I go and look at dirty pictures and whatever else us non-virgin guys do....:animesigh

You really thing only non-virgin guys do that? I mean, look at DB.

Interesting virgin-related tidbit: in highschool, I was voted Most Likely To Remain a Virgin For Life.

It wasn't even a category. Everyone just wrote it in, and I'm pretty sure I got a unanimous vote.

1. Do you have anyone who you'd like to take your virginity? Yes. And Conrad I can't believe you don't want me to take your virginity! >:/ Haha.

2. How or where would you like to loose your virginity?
I would like to not be on drugs. And in an empty house.

3. Are any conditions you consider that must be met for you to loose your virginity?
Not really. I would prefer it not to be a one night stand... generally the person stalks me for a few days after anything happens, because they consider it as "we're together."

4. How does it feel being a virgin? Are you ever made fun of for it?
Doesn't really matter to me. I actually don't really want to have sex yet, I can watch porn or read about it, but, it feels awkward when any of those situations arise for me. Plus penises are scary, sorry guys, and even though I'd rather have sex with a woman, I still can't see myself doing it.
Masturbation works just fine. I'm a lonely geek anyway. :P

I was with my girlfriend for four months before we had sex. Everyone assumed we'd already had it by that point, which was kind of amusing.

We did, it was alright, and since then we've.... gotten the hang of it. Does it make you feel any different? Not really. But it makes occasions when you don't get to have sex with them less satisfying, sadly.
