Does anyone believe in love at first sight???
Panache replied to Lunar's topic in General Discussion
Thing is, lust is described as the desire of the flesh, pretty much means your base intention is sex. However, you can look at someone and decide that they look like an interesting person that you would like to get to know better.
Well that's true. I probably should have but lust at first sight or obvious chemistry. Anyway Indi is right I think. I think in retrospect it may seem like you immediately fell in love. But if something horrible happened like say...he/she is horribly mutilated right before your eyes before you say anything to him/her. Will you still be in love? -

I'm not cynical I just think the notion of people instantly falling for one another without any work or prior experiences devalues love and makes it seem like something easily achieved. -
No, no, you silly! We have super powers that you can only gain by truly and whole-heartedly believing in the very depths of love. If you don't understand what I just said, then oh, well.
I dunno sounds like simple lust to me. When I was younger I used to see beautiful women and think they had to be perfect for me. I guess I thought it was love at first sight. But really it;s not. It's a superficial temporal state of mind. Love in my opinion is long lasting if not eternal and requires time and nurturing it isn't. That said you should not focus on searching for love really but focus on taking care of people. Then the love will spawn automatically. I think the whole love at first sight thing requires one to believe in the whole soul mate thing which I don't really buy. I think people are completely capable of having a deep personal love for one another without having some predestined fate by being honest with each other and caring for each other. -

I don't understand...how can you immediately have a deep meaningful relationship with someone by looking at them? Do you guys just have a really simple definition of love or something? -
oh my gosh! what the heck? lust at first sight, love at first sight. i can't take it anymore! i'm out! and really, um, lets just stay on topic. no boyfriend girlfriend stuff. love at first sight=bah. romance=bah. stupid, stupid stupid.:animeangr
Well you should expect some level of romance to be discussed in a thread like this. Anyway I think lust has more to do with nature than romance. It's just an emotion that people feel when an attractive person of the opposite sex(or I suppose the same sex too). -
Which reminds me that I need to give up the nice-guy routine, because we are a dieing breed.
Just be true to yourself. If you are it will show in your actions. If your a nice guy be a nice guy to the best of your abilities. If your not then don't try to be what your not. I am usually only nice to the people I care about. To everyone else I am pretty much indifferent too or a dick too. -
I agree with LUST at first sight. That kind of worries me, because I think I just fell for that. I'm not so sure though, because lust is usually very...very shallow. A friend of mine is trying to hook me up with a very pretty girl who actually wants to know me better. I also want to get to know her better, but I'm worried that it might just be motivated by lust. So far, all I know about her is that she's down to earth, but yet likes to hang around my crazy friends, so I think I'm in the clear.
Well I mean your gonna care about looks to some degree. It's human nature. But I don't think you should make a big deal about if your shallow or not. I mean if she's a total ***** you won't stay with her just beacuse she's attractive? As long as you aren't that fargone I think you are okay. -

That depends on what your definition of Love is. In order for me to love someone I need to have a deep and meaningful relationship with them already. So yea that's impossible at first site obviously. Now I know for a fact people fall in LUST with people at first site all the time. Hell I do it every day I go to school. But alas lust and love are vastly different from each other. -
I like snakes. I had 3 corn snakes when I was around 8 named charlie, ruby and snowflake. They were the cutest things I've ever seen. They were happy in their cage. I could pick them up and let them slither on my hands. They only needed to eat once a week and they ate these ugly rat babies. My little brown corn snake charlie bit me once but that was the only bad experience I had with them. I was utterly crushed when my dad told me he let them go into the woods. Since then I have never had snakes again. Maybe when I get my own place I will get some more snakes. I really do love them.

Chobits From the first second I could relate to the main male character. Then once they started adding in others and thickening the plot it just got better and better for me.

This sounds far fetched to say the least... If it is true though...don't bother with her. She is obviously(and I hate using this word) a whore. So forget her.
1. If you believe in God, why do you believe?
I believe in God for a couple reasons. Ever since I have been born people have been telling me his is real and that I should follow him. They say the bible is the ultimate authority from him and I should follow it too. However once I got old enough to question these people they really haven't been giving me answers that make sense. So now I have a pretty simple relationship with God. I ask him to help me and when he does I thank him. And 9 times out of 10 the things I ask him for happen for me. So that's basically my reason. Maybe it's luck, or Karma. But I prefer to think it's God.
2. Why do you think others believe in God?
For a great man reasons. A powerful emotional response to a sermon. The fact that they have nothing left. They grew up with it. That's just a few of the million of reasons people choose.
3. The most popular conflict between faith and reason is usually on the evolution/creationism controversy. What?s your take on the issue? Can science be compatible with belief? Do you accept evolutionary theory?
You can mix evolution and creationism together to have some sort of mesh sure. I personally don't believe in evolutionism because It just doesn't make sense to me. That said I haven't looked into it that deeply and I doubt I would understand all the scientific stuff that's in it. I think the creationist theory is easier to beleive. A God we don't understand created the world. You can completely disprove it. But you can't really prove it either. You need faith but not a large leap of faith. So I will take the smaller leap of faith.
4. What do you think are the most compelling arguments to not believe in God? Or, what do you think are the greatest challenges to peoples? faith.
I Don't really know. The biggest reason I stepped away from the majority idea of Christianity was because of the hypocrisy of my fellow "Christians." I figure if heaven is full of these people I'd rather not go.
5. Do you think there is such thing as ?reasonable faith?? Or, do you think they are in conflict?
Sure. I know lots of people who are perfectly normal who have faith in God. It's a fairly easy to accept the idea a lot of the ideas of the bible.
6. Lastly, if you believe in God. What evidence do you have in favor of your belief?
My own peprsonal expirience. That's pretty much it at this point.
-
What I don't get from my fellow Christians is this. Ok so they are gay. They wanna get married. Aren't they pretty far from being converted? Huh? At least let them enjoy their sin. I mean what are the odds of conversion at this point? Why don't we focus on the easily converted people first and then work on the harder converts?
-
I don't really care. If they wanna go ahead and be gay forever let em. I have never heard a compelling argument to be against this. Now will I be proactively for gay marriage? Hell no. I'm not gay. So it isn't my problem.

Right now I am listening to Hardcore and Jazz at the same time. Mostly it is My Hero is Me and Miles Davis one after another. It gives off this weird mind clearing effect.

I have been listening to My Hero is Me and Knives Exchange Hands both excellent hardcore bands. My Hero is Me http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2639384 They have a very nice sort of melodic feel to them. They seem like a more musically advanced fastest kid in 5th grade. Very sweet stuff. Knives Exchange Hands http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=5739391 These guys have a sort of death metally vocalist and occasionally they sound a bit grindcore like. But they also have a melodic side. Also their songs have really well thought out rhythms that I enjoy a lot. Prem check these guys out.
BTW Panache idk if you know, but Revolver magazine has a special Tool issue that is just as its should be, ALL TOOL. You'd love it, I suggest looking for it. It has the cover of Lateralus on the magazine. Just thought I'd let the fellow Tool fan know. It covers all the albums to date, as well as other **** like a Q&A with the artist, who btw, has BRILLIANT mind. Just look at the video for Vicarious.
Meh I might check it out. I'm not much on magazines anymore. I can usually just get the info from the internet most of the time. Recently I have only been listening to 10,000 days from Tool and I have been listening to a lot more A Perfect Circle. Mostly the covers on Emotive. Which in my opinion are the best covers of anything anywhere period. Oh yea and This song called Grab Thy Hand by Chevelle has one of the most bad *** rhythms. Oh yea and I listened to I can't stop loving you by Ray Charles today....made me really sad.
-
I think the Ray Charles classic "I Can't Stop Loving You" during that one really made the difference though.
That's what that was? I gotsta put that on my ipod.

Today I have been listening to Chevelle and Neutral Milk hotel. I listened to the Cure song Pictures of You covered Chevelle. I really like it and I think they do it massive amounts of justice. I actually don't think I've heard a bad Cure cover yet. I also listened to Midnight to Midnight which has I think the best Chevelle intro. From Neutral Milk hotel I listened to Two Headed Boy parts one and Two. I prefer part one to part two because it seems a lot more relaxed and fun. I also listened to a song called She Did a Lot of Acid. Waht a grand old song.

I've been listening to metal... First of all I have been hittin up Metallica quite a bit. Mostly stuff from Master of Puppets but today I have been listening to Seek and Destroy and The Four Horsemen. Also I have been listening to Dog Fashion Disco quite a bit. Plastic Surgeons is a really really good song. I suggest you find it Whoa Mann. Also I have been listening to Some Meshuggah. They have a new album and I heard a few songs from it. Bleed is a really great song. I am gonna pick up this album when the opportunity arises. Lastly I have been listening to Celtic Frost and Iced Earth. I really like both of these bands a lot. I like Celtics Frosts dark atmosphere wit ha sort of gloomy feel. On the flip side I like Iced Earth's aggressive yet sort of peaceful and beautiful feel.

So recently I have been on a sort of old school hip hop and Jazz binge. Mostly I have been listening to Miles Davis and Stanley Jordan. I have been listening to Miles for a while and I already have a great appreciation for incredibly talented he is as a musician. But before yesterday I have never heard of Stanley Jordan which is a shame. I saw this guys rendition of Stairway to Heaven on Youtube...SICK!!! Anyway as far as hip hop goes I am listening to A Tribe Called Quest. This rap group is probably my favorite of the 90's even though the Wu-Tang Clan is pretty damn good. They sound really chill but they still have a really good smooth flow throughout all of their songs. Also their funny...which is just great. I also have been listening to Busta Rhymes Genesis album which I think is his best and most innovative. It has a really dark feel to it and it's violent but not in the steryotipical hip hop way. It almost has a metal feel in some of the songs and especially in Bad Dreams. Good stuff.

I am listening to Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd which is really sad song. It reminds me of the death of the
Firefly family(my favorite anti hero family)
from the devils rejects. I am also listening to Twelve Tribes which is really awesome sort of punky hardcore stuff. I recommend this to you prem. I am also listening to Busta Rhymes Genesis Album which is by far his best album. Lastly I am listening to Killswitch Engage. You may be thinking " I thought that guy hated Killswitch Engage?" Well I do...sort of. But this really sexy girl likes it so I am giving it another chance. I think Eye of the Storm is an OK song. It's not so bad...except for Holy Diver that song is terrible to a degree I have never experienced. Oh yea and yesterday I went on a Chevelle+Staind binge. Man that was a good binge.
A Clockwork Orange: Massive fan of this film and Kubrick in general - as my screen name suggests.
I actually saw this movie this year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though I was sort of confused as Bravo said this was a HORROR movie and it was more of a satircal dark comedy with elements of mystery,sci-fi and other stuff I really can't describe. But it for damn sure wasn't horror. Oh and Alex DeLarge is the definition of cool.
Something to blame on Allamorph since he mentioned Charles Ives so naturally I had to go and start listening to some of his works. Charles Ives Piano Sonata no-2 He has a very different style from what one might normally consider classical music, but he's definitely worth checking out since he's often considered to be one of the first American classical composers of international significance.
This guy is a BEAST. I should really listen to that now...

I am listening to Mayhem at the moment. Slaughter of dreams to be precise.
