If you don?t already know about it, recently both Shy and I were given an assignment. One from the OtakuBoards Survivor 4 RPG that is currently being hosted by Sandy. Basically as you can see here: We are supposed to come up with something that would have the best of the community in mind. A suggestion if you will. And to that effect I am starting this thread since there are couple of things I?ve been thinking about that could make a difference. I have three things to mention so I?ll get started. The Suggestion: Now I?m sure that all of you are aware of the occasional problem with what is known as spam bots. Automated programs that sign up at a forum for the sole purpose of posting a thread to either advertise or to post links to porn. In every case that I have seen, they have always followed the same pattern, one thread is posted and nothing more. Now I?m not really too worried about it since I?ve also noticed that the staff takes care of them quickly. But the thought has occurred to me, what if it was possible to keep most of them from happening in the first place? Which brings me to the suggestion, is it possible to limit people from being able to start a thread when they join? Now since I am not familiar with how the program for this forum works I honestly don?t know if this is even possible. But if it was, it seems like a very tiny restriction of requiring a new member to post in an existing thread so many times would get rid of the problem or at least help curb it. To throw out a number, say requiring five posts before one can start a new thread. Something that would help end the spam bots and yet not truly restrict the true members.
Hmmm...I think it would be a good idea for a system like...a member can't make a thread until they get a certain amount of posts (like three or five posts) or.. let's say...for new members, to make a thread/ post they'd have to type in one of those things that prevent automated signups, "text in the box" I think is what they call it.
Greetings: This is my next suggestion, one that has to do with the e-mail system. Something that I thought about before it was made known that the system seems to be broken, basically it has to do with Birthday e-mails. Before the system had problems members were getting a very simple e-mail like this: (which is exactly what she got since she still had the e-mail)
Hello Aaryanna, We at OtakuBoards would like to wish you a happy birthday today!
Forgetting about the issue with the e-mail system, my suggestion was to do something a little nicer. To actually send an e-card instead of just a simple text message. Now again, I don?t know how feasible it would be to have something like this happen, or if it would require using a different service all together to make it possible. But it still seems like a nice idea. Even if it could be done by someone who was willing to take the time each day to simply send a pm to each member on the list of Today?s Birthday?s at the bottom of the forum. Since things like that are what makes a place stand out, that little extra touch that makes a site seem more like a community.
I think that is a good idea, while it may take alot of effort to send such messages to every person with a birthday on the OB, it can happen. My Birthday was on the 18th lol, So, I think I can relate. I also think that...having other members send you messages/e-cards/icons just for your Birthday is great. Like on Facebook, people can give other members little icons of birthday cakes and such. I think that a system like that could work out here.
News: Now for my final suggestion I thought it would be nice to have a type of newspaper for OtakuBoards. I did some hunting around and found that this is an idea that has come up in the past and then died down. Not from lack of interest, but more from a having a clear direction to take. So my suggestion is to make having a newspaper more official in the same way that Otakupedia is. Not necessarily with a link but perhaps a permanent sticky in one of the sections, like OB Anthology for example. And to realize this suggestion I already have a clear idea on how to go about it. For starters it would need to have a set format, one that would make it easy to do a publication and yet not require so much that it would never be done. The first format would be that instead of trying to do it weekly or even every two weeks, a monthly deal seems like it would be the most flexible. A report on interesting threads and things that have happened in the past month, to give an example it could be done in sections. Something like this: OtakuBoards Communiqué Entertainment
[information here on interesting threads, etc.]
Community
[information here on interesting threads, etc.]
Creative Works.
[information here on interesting threads, etc.]
It could even have a section for say featured members who have either made contributions to the site recently or in the past, or one that fills requests from members for articles. Other than the basic idea, the possibilities are endless. I?d really like to see what people think since it?s something I can see becoming a permanent feature instead of an occasional one. One that I know I would enjoy being a part of. Anyway, that wraps up what I wanted to present. Hopefully at least one if not all of these ideas could be helpful for the community. And I thank you for taking the time to read it.
I like the idea. Back in the old days, the newspaper I tried working on failed miserably, probably just for the fact that all the members working on were too busy to contribute. It was weekly, and a pain in the butt, and ultimately just a bad idea. But a monthly issue would work out quite nicely, focusing directly on news about the OB. Having it be like a sticky, or over there with Otakupedia would seem to be the smartest idea, and having a mod just for that idea, like Otakupedia, would be great. P.S! Speaking of Birthdays, today just so happens to be DW's b-day!

David Hayner is my favorite VA in any Video game. And I've come to realize...that Tidus...sounds just like....the guy from Driver: Parallel Lines. We can't have that now, can we? Also...annoying... I'd say Sora from the first KH. Haley Joel Osment just didn't...feel...right. Sora was what? About twelve? Haley made him sound about five. And then, Sora switches over to an older sounding dude, in the second KH ,which actually suited him quite well.

My personal favorite is actually...either Pumpkin Pie, or Sweet Potato pie.... I don't really like the warm fruit and stuff. It disgusts me. And yes...Chicken Pot Pies rock too. So does Icecream pies and Chocalate Pies! Indeed. How could I forget? PIZZA. Pizza counts as pie. Italian Pie. Pizza kicks arse.

To do such a thing, first you must make sure that the avatar/banner is the correct size. It says exactly what size and capacity of avatars is possible on the site, if you go to "Edit Avatar" over to the left. When you have a good image, either put in the url of the image, or save it and upload onto the site. If you'd like to put a banner, put it in your signature, and it can only go up to 500x100. Your signature can hold a bigger image, but still has its limits. As for the greeting card dealio, I'm not quite sure. Ask someone that is affiliated with the Art Studio.

Indeed. "Glory" "Shy" Charles" and "RPG REVOLUTION" pulled me in. I'm in. Make it a good one, guys.

Not really into the whole Southern Rock thing, but alas I do have a LS cd...but...Free Bird is way too good...and all the other songs aren't as good...but there's alot of 'em that are better than that one song "Sweet Home Alabama" which is the song that everybody knows them for....which isn't very good, in my opinion. The covers I'd like to do...I'd want to do them in a way they've never been done (oooo). Especially since there have been alot of covers of "Freebird" and "Paint it Black" (Rolling stones). Ah...I just hope all of the music we make is good, and that we don't make any one hit wonders.I feel sorry for Warrant, the guy who made "Cherrypie".And to those people that are putting together musical formulas in their minds, well here's ours. The Number 12 Looks Like You+Underoath+Flyleaf+As Cities Burn+Scary Kids Scaring Kids+Tokio Hotel+Rise Against+Unearth+Arch Enemy+Opeth+Tenacious D+KISS+AC/DC+Lynnard Skynnerd+Ozzy+Iron Maiden+Haste The Day+The Agony Scene+Arma Angelus+Silverstein+Comeback Kid+Shadows Fall+Beneath The Sky+The Used+Demon Hunter+Dragonforce+Firefly+All That Remains+As I Lay Dying+Norma Jean+Coheed and Cambria+Avenged Sevenfold+Alexisonfire+Something completely original...=Thecopskilledkenny Did you get all that?

Mhm. I want to do something like that...and...well you'll think this is dorky, but I want to make something like "Free Bird" because even though I hate Lynnard Skynnard, that song may be in my mind, the greatest song because of its length and freshness throughout the whole thing. I hope we can keep it fresh in our long songs, because when it gets repetitive, it gets bad....Bad as in...bad. And bad as in bad is bad. So...yeah.

Nice. That's kind of like a story of Metal in itself. And thus, why really holy old guys scare me , even though I am Christian. I liked the use of words in this poem, it kept it fresh, and while I wondered what this poem was about, it helped hint alot. The poem was very descrpitive. That's a thumbs up. Your Demon of reason lends no more sympathy, Left forsaken to ponder why you are immoral. His Angel of deceit plays upon the flaws, Voiced how innocence twists to corruption. These lines sound like what you may call....an eternal battle within a mind, the concept of which, I like, so this may be my favorite part of the poem. So anyway, get some more stuff on here! :D

Ah yes, okay. Well, right now, I want to change up the music in each song, because of my vocal abilities...I can sing the oldies type voice, like Dio, and I can also scream just like the two guys from the Number 12 Looks Like You, as well as screaming like alot of Metal artists, but of course, my voice doesn't go as low as theirs. And I kind of want to do songs that take attention away from vocals entirely, becausse I hate it when vocals and lead singers are all that people see in music. How do you guys feel about songs that are instrumental, or songs that are very long, with little vocals and alot of focus on the guitars and bass?

To Minako here, I'm sure it feels like her world is really falling apart...I don't really like talking about my "world falling apart" because of how much of a loser I would sound like if I did talk about that stuff...but I will say this. Writing is a good way to get it all out. Poetry, lyrics even stuff like art... It helps alot. Anyway, it's alot better than being self abusive that's fershizzle, and doing drugs. Thank God, I didn't do drugs...or havn't done them yet, which I hope I won't, and I started being a little more optimistic. I try to be nice to people, and happy about my life, because, really how much time do you really have in this life?

Well this is a dump made by me. It's the first dump after Chronicles of a Pyro's Mind which I'm sure you know, sucked kind of badly.Well this one may not suck so bad. It's called the Black book and alot of it is just thoughts and tidbits. So enjoy, and here is my first poem, which is un-named. My life has seen many things go by....and yet, the sky is filled with undying answers to the questions I long for. I have so many unanswered though, as my life goes by and to the things I have seen, my eyes shall close. Depression hurts, I know. We need to learn this is not a dream This world we know, is slipping I shall not fall to my own defeat And when our pills don't work And when our friends decide to turn And when I'm all alone This time, I'm all alone Were we not good enough for you? Are we lost causes to this world? Our siblings have died Our family has cried This drought goes on And we're burning down the only home we have Dry shouts the sky No rain tonight No hope tonight Dark fades my light Night grows near and my afterthought begins All those times, we cried, and I saw defeat in the eyes of her innocent smile, when my only family died, I was heartbroken, they said I wasn't smart enough, not good enough, she broke my heart, this is an afterthought of the sky And if we're indeed pieces of this puzzle, and if the puzzle is the sky, then that means that every blue piece is a single tear we cried But then the sky goes black, night has fallen, and I have risen, I will not live another day as a puzzle piece, I will stray away from this blue and the whites and become red, and soon they will follow, and the sky will be red, but then I will change back to blue, and they will follow, and I repeat, until I am not mirrored Ah, that was...not too great. ^_^ I shall return later with more tidbits and such. Peace Out Edit:!!! New lyrics to a song called "777"....just got out of a relationship...well...had to write something about it: Tonight, through the first star in the sky I wished to God that we could make it work And then, when the sky was full of stars You called to break my heart And that's when my backfire hit me in the face I can't change free will I can't change reality And the reality is, that I'm the problem You're a person who is higher than me as I am a slave and a servant as I was to all my other lovers They were better than me and I was too kind to notice but now I'm fine, I don't care anymore You're only the 777th girl I've loved that broke my heart. I'm used to it, so I won't shed a tear I'll question your reasons but I already know the answer So tonight, I'll build a wall between me and every attractive person I come in contact with And I'll become the boy.. No. I'll become the man that you don't remember that you loved less than he loved you You listend to the sacreligious lies of a child the man though was a friend No, You're Not So Innocent. No, You're Not So Innocent. No, You Won't Be Innocent. So Take That Look Off Of Your- Face me. Shutup and just face me tell me my own reality, tell me the truth and I'll tell you how I felt long ago and I'll make you remember the times you told me your secrets Only I could listen like that. And if you make me love you again I won't be the same Your heart will be broken because my heart was broken as you come to find That There Is No "Friends" After A Murder Of A Boy A Murder That Made Me A Man This Is The Story Of 777 Murders Of Children

Nope. Used to like em. But that was before I kind of heard "real" good music. I don't really like (key word) them. Just Joey. DJs are cool too...but I don't know that much about Synthesizers, so psh. I know one thing though...the guitarists aren't that great. Hopefully my band's music won't sound too much like their crap. And ah yes, Jake, of course I would change my interest because of your eternal coolness.

oh Deathrift is my word...for a riff that would potentially kill somebody because it is so bad ***. And when I say bad, I'll restate a old song "b-b-bad to the bone".... And yes...Slipknot sucks...except for #1 Joey Jordison...that dood rocks on the drums...and sure...the rest of the band is kewl...or whatever..psh. Anywho.

Can this thread contain Motorcycles too? Cuz right now...that's kind of the only (factual) ride I have. I have CRF Honda right now....ah...it's beautiful really.... The engine has been tuned..so it's louder and more POWER-PACKED, along with the mud and stains going down the side....it's like the perfect ride.
-
Well...I'll say all the bands that I care about, since alot of them suck...or there's just not that many...after all...I live in Arkansas... sigh* Once Exiled: Brutal band...these guys go crazy on stage. The last concert I went to, the singer climbed up the railing of the stage while still singing...and then jumped off in front of us...we all did the "bow" in a cirle fomation around him. Aha. Yes. They used to play easier-going music...but now they're really kind of like a metal band. Last Hour: Flyleaf's twin. These guys are a Christian band....who actually turned out to be pretty kewl. the guitarists added in riffs and bass solos as well as the guitarist screaming like an old guy. Yeah, they're awesome, right? Stoning Cain: Three white guy brothers and one hispanic God at playing bass. If that doesn't sum it up...I don't know what does.
-
Ah yes...after seeing a review of Baiten Kaitos, I already hated the VO's...but then my friend got it...and I witnessed firsthand the sound of crap. The Legend of Zelda (good version): well the sound of beeping and grunts is kind of annoying, since there aren't any real voice-overs in the game. Sims: The people in this game sound absolutely retarded when they speak a word in whatever language they're talking in. I feel kind of bad for them, in a way..
-
Ah yes, Rush is an awesome band...to me, it's awesome because of how great the drummer is. He was way ahead of his time whenever he was playing about 20 years ago, and you can tell that many bands have used Rush's music as inspiration. Also...I'd say Nirvana is one of those really good old bands. They kind of founded the Grunge genre, and made some really good music...though I think some of it is a little repetitive as time goes on, it's all good. After Kurt died, the other two members went on to found newer bands that are still making music today.

Well...my current ride is broken So I'm currently using a Rent-a-Dragon

Well, there's a "modern artist" thread, so this is the one that shall be filled with Rock and Roll, Satan, and long hair. Unless you go with "my fave oldies is Michael Jackson" then we can go with something like...oh let's say...lots of disco dance moves that these days belong on DDR? Anyway. Who do you think is the best oldies band/artist/whatever? I don't care if you have more than one or whatever, just answer the question. What's my favorite oldies band? Iron Maiden. Why Iron Maiden? Well, out of all the different oldies bands that are awesome such as AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Metallica and etc., Iron Maiden is that one band that sounds the coolest to me. The rifts are nice, and the bassist ish like chocalate icecream to my ears. Oh snaps. What is my favorite song by them? The Trooper. For God's sake, it's my theme song almost. And what else makes them awesome? They have a song devoted to the number 666. Now, I'm a Christian, and while I'm not supposed to feel strong about it...the idea is pretty kewl. And that, my friends, is my favorite oldies band.
-
ah, I get like that too. I record vocals over and over as well as drums....over and over...because I feel that it's just not good enough. Good luck with your band, I recently made an awesome deathrift, but since I'm not the guitarist in the band, I can't play it in one of our songs ( I feel like that should be just Andrew, Steven, and Austin's job). I also feel a little left out..because everybody wants to be a little bit....easier going than me, because I want our music to be really really really bad but they don't want me to scream the whole time. But we should get it worked out...eventually.

Yeah, not saying that I really know what emo is since Kev here is the expert, because emo has been around for quite a while. I don't really mind not knowing exactly what it is, but I know that there are some really good screamo bands (...well if that's what they're called) like Underoath, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Beneath the Sky and then there's alot of bands that have more of a...(semi screamo...semi not?) feel to them... like Scary Kids Scaring Kids and As Cities Burn, that in my mind may be some of the best bands ever. I also like stuff like Opeth, Cradle, Atreyu, and some indie stuff like Billy Talent and rifftastic stuff like Tenacious D. Now I obviously don't know anything about what genre these things are from, but at least I look outside of the genres and give other stuff a try. DB, you my friend need to stop bashing and be more open minded. EDIT: I suppose your ways are forgiven though lol

Well you do have a sense of freshness...yet...cliche' rhymes. It seems as if these are the lyrics of another band like Linkin Park and etc. But of course, I won't hate on your style. I liked them, but I didn't like the fact that alot of it seems like it's there just to rhyme. You don't have to rhyme that much. ...Well atleast you didn't go with a Dr. Seuss rhyme...that would've ended badly. Now, I did however like Las Manos de Apocylptic del Destino alot, because "you got away from your rhyme affliction", and it turned out rather nicely. You should write alot more, keep it up. P.S. I'm not really sure what to say about Mutant Freaks though, lol.

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Nomurah! replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
Ah yes, I too lost the game, but the thread happened to be closed by the time I read it so, yeah. -
Well really, I'm not too fond of BB because of the certain poppy feel they have, but they aren't really Pop Rock considering...some of the garbage I'm hearing right now on the leading Music Channels. But... I used to love BB, because of the album We Are Not Alone, I got as soon as I heard "So Cold" being played as a trailer for a Starz channel. So, I went and got it, and I loved it. Their songs sound very similiar but, they have those two or three songs on every album that sound really different. My personal favorite is "Forget It" because...I strangely like the happyness and sadness that's balanced into the song. I cannot really say that I am a hardcore fan, because I only have one CD and I no longer really listen to them, and I have no intention of getting Phobia, because I probably won't like it very much, considering I just don't like that kind of music. But that doesn't mean that I don't think BB are bad. Personally, I think they are very good.

The coolest song of every week is Master Exploder by Tenacious D. It is all because of the PICK OF DESTINY. Ah yes, that song and that band rock.
