So you got kids...now watcha going to name them?
Roxie Faye replied to Yu Yu Hakusho!'s topic in General Discussion
If I had kids, I'd name one Vanessa Lynn, because I like the name Vanessa, and my sister's pretty middle name is Lynn. I'd prolly name a boy Chai Kitja.* I like the names Faye, like from Cowoy Bebop, and Albert, like Albert Einstien, too. Should do something with those. *No, Kitja has NOTHING to do with kuja. >_< My father's name is Chai, and my late grandpa's name is Kitja! It's Thai for cripes sake! -

Writing I haven't done a poem in a while, so....
Roxie Faye replied to Charles's topic in Creative Works
You're right Charles. It does define horrible. I should give that to mich. Give her a taste of horrible. I do think it's a very well written poem, and a nice rhyming scheme, but it's sad, too. Very sad. That he had nothing at all. Nothing to live for. I sincerely hope this isn't based off someone you know. -
Originally posted by Duo Maxwell When I read this it reminded me of a conversation I had a while back, it was about my former feelings towards Germans. And during it one person said to me: "Mo-Chan, have you ever heard of the "Holy" Crusades.. what I mean is, times when Christians have gone around slaughtering Muslims and such, just because they (the Christians) have a grudge against them. If you're gonna dismiss all Germans because some of them followed Hitler, you'll have to dismiss all Christians cos some used to do that"
:eek: WHAT!?!?!?!? I hate to burst your bubble, but during the Holy Crusades, the MUSLIMS attacked the Christians. It doesn't change the principle you're trying to prove(that you shouldn't hate everyone in a particular group just because of a few selected people's bad choices), but I just thought I'd like to correct the actual facts in there. ;)
Originally posted by DeathKnight I veiw all religion as unneccesary, and a false hope for those that beleive in it. People want something greater in life, so they blindly strive after whoever or whatever set things in motion, to try to gain some sort of purpose in life besides just living life. That to me is sad, yet somehow it seems that all of us strive for something like that- Power, Money, Purpose. It all levels out on something we worship, if we go after it to a point..
I'd have to say that most people behave well for their religion, because yes, they do want to get into heaven, and stay with God, but not ALL religious people are like that. Take into account, myself(this is going to be a long story, but it has a point so bear with me). I used to be afraid of death, and I still am, but for different reasons. The point that goes with my story is, I used to be afraid of death, because in the end, what if there wasn't a Heaven, as my religion(Catholicism) says there is? Then would all my being good, and doing good be a waste of my life on this earth? And then I answered myself this: No, it wouldn't be a waste, because I'm not being good to get into heaven, I'm good, and I do good things because it gives others, and me satisfactions, happiness and joy. Getting into heaven because I do good is more a "bonus" for me, if you will. The point of my story is, not all Christians, and people belonging to a religion are good JUST so they can get into Heaven. Yes, they may be good for other reasons, like mine(geting stisfaction out of it). Maybe a lot of them are, but not all of them. Am I making any sense to you people, or am I reading too much into what you're saying, Ken?

Heh. A couple years ago I was SO obsessed with Harry Potter it wasn't funny. Okay, maybe it was. Ha ha. I REALLY loved the character Harry Potter, and I would wish he was real. and then I got into the whole Neopets scene, and I got out of that by watching Card Captors(obsessed with that for a SHORT period of time). THEN, last November, I got into Digimon, when Tamers was playing. When they played the DigiBowl on Fox kids, I saw Ken, and I was all "OH MY GOD HE'S SOOOOOOOO FRIGGIN HOT!!!!!" and when they played seasons one, two, and three on fox kids, I got really excited, and I LOVED season two, because Ken was SO HOT. And a couple months ago, in October, A friend, Lumi(some of you may know/remember her) showed me a pic of the whole Gundam Wing crew, because then, the only character I knew was Duo, because Lumi likes him, and she explained who he was to me. She was showing me a pic of him, and the pic happened to be of the whole crew. I asked who the blonde guy was, and she said "that's Quatre" (she had to tell me over the phone later that his name was Cah-trah, not Kwah-tray. ^_^;;; I DON'T TAKE FRENCH AS MY FOREIGN LANGUAGE. V_V) I fell in love with him, but my obsession never reached the height as Ken and Harry, and my Ken Obsession never QUITE reached the height of my Harry obsession either-- but it came close. ^_^;;; And, because of my likeness for Anime, I've become "Obsessed with"(not really, but I really like) Japan. My mom eve got me one of those Beginners for Japanese" thingys with a tape and everything for Christmas. Interspersed throughout the years, AFTER Harry Potter(he was my first obsession ever) I've been obsessed, for small periods of time, with several characters like Osamu(Digimon 02), Syaoran(Card Captor Sakura), Raven (Zoids Chaotic Century), Squal Leonheart (Final Fantasy VIII), Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh), Yami (Yu-Gi-Oh), and Beelzemon(Digimon Tamers), after a pic Ginny put up. ^_^;;; I'm not obsessed with any of them anymore, which is a good thing, but I do like all of them, 'cept Neopets, which keep forgetting to visit. My pets keep starving. Heh. Since Bishounen can only be from Animes, Mangas, or Video Games, Harry Potter isn't on here, but if it could include him, he'd be right after Ken, and right before Quatre. Here is my current list of Bishi boys: Ken Ichijouji (Digimon 02) Quatre Rebera Winner (Gundam Wing) Raven (Zoids Chaotic Century) Li Showron (Card Captor Sakura) Squal Leonheart (Final Fantasy VIII) Takuya Kanbara (Digimon Frontier) Matt Ishida (Digimon 02) Kouichi Minamoto (Digimon Frontier) Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh) Ryo Akiyama (Digimon Tamers) Mitsuo Yamaki (Digimon Tamers) Yami (Yu-Gi-Oh) Osamu Ichijouji (Digimon 02) Duo Maxwell (Gundam Wing) Eriol Hiragizawa (Card Captor Sakura)

Are you a prodestant and a bapist because your parents are of the two different religions and then, in turn, when you were born, you were born into both religions? If your'e confused about your religion, I suggest you ask the head of your churches to explain your religion to you (I'm sure they'd be happy to), and then, if it fits your beliefs, then continue to be a part fo that religion, and if it does not fit what you believe, then, well don't be part of that religion.
Originally posted by Rain Now, here's what I don't get. How can you believe one part of the story they're telling you, and then not believe another, let alone the beginning of the story? If you don't believe the Adam and Eve thing is true, doesn't that throw your beliefs out of whack? Who's to say the rest of the Bible isn't all a lie? If a person tells you something and you don't believe them, you're most probably going to think twice about believing anything else they tell you. By the way, that wasn't an attack directed at you or anything, it's just something I've always wondered when people say that.
Actually, the majority of the bible is totally false. Some of the letters Paul wrote, stuff from before Christ was born was put in there after Paul died. The bible wasn't meant to be taken literally at all. It was there to show principles and beliefs. I doubt that Sarah was really 100 when she gave birth to her first son. The point was, that God(the Christian God) can create miracles. Jonah was probably not inside a whale EVER, but it was a story told to make a point, and besides, in ancient times, numbers stood for something. I think 4 and 40 stood for manlyness or something. 3 and 7 were divine, 6 was evil, etc. You aren't supposed to believe in the actual stories and the events in them, but in the ideas behind them. In the story of Samson and Delailah, Samson wasn't strong any more, because his hair was cut off, he wasn't strong because he lost his faith in God. The story was meant to tell you to trust in put your faith in God. The story of Adam and Eve was a story told to the ignorant to make them believe. So, if it was only a story, then why should I believe? And, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, if that's what I sound like. ^_^;;;

Eh. I'm already an idiot, so I'll just ask anotehr idiotic question! Lol. Anyways, Flasheh said that the awards would be up in 20 min., an that was a couple days ago. Unless I'm blind I haven't seen any threads pertaining to the Otaku Awards in the Adventure Arena or the General Discussion. Is it not up yet, or am I loosing my mind(I wouldn't be surprised if I was, lol.)?

I, myself, am Catholic. There are some things though, that I don't believe in that the Catholic Church believes in. For instance, I believe NOTHING of Adam and Eve. I can't even accept something like "there were two tribes of Adam and Eve." It's just not something I believe in. I do believe in God, I believe in Jesus, and all that stuff. And I hate the church... but, um... that's another story, and before I get yelled at by someone, I think I'll quit while I'm ahead. ^_^;;;

My school counselor is Betsy Crocker. No joke. She's an okay guidance counselor. I personally wouldnn't go to a school guidance counselor if I was having emotional problems. Wouldn't tell them anything personal about my life either. The way I see it, they're there to help you with stuff like resolving small problems with friends, and to help you with stuff like preparing for high school (creating schedules, writing recommendations for high scool academies), and for helping you with college applications 'n stuff nothing more than that.

Who should be responsible for the moral education of a child?
Roxie Faye replied to ChibiV's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve I know that parents don't elect teachers, lol. I meant they elect school officials... like... school board members. They are the ones who decide what and how to spend school money and if they don't spent it on the schools then well there you go. Like around here, the Orange County school board took their money and spent like... half of it on a statue outside their offices... and the rest on schools... I mean... why? Doesn't make sense...
Ohhhh. You were talking about the board of education. Now I get it. ^_^;;
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve As for your second point, you've never lived in Florida have you? You've never had the dispriviledge to go to our public schools. Teachers here don't teach because they like to, they teach because they have a degree from college that says they can and it'll get them more money then working at the grocery store. Sure some like to teach, but others...I highly doubt it. If you're going to teach, do it well. You're influencing hundrens upon thousands of children, and if you look at Florida you can tell thats simply not happening.
Well, of course you need a college degree to be a teacher. What I'm saying, is that, unless your parents forced you to be a teacher, the majority of the people who are, are doing it because they like their job, and not because of the money. Teachers make substantially less money than an engineer does. A whole heck of a lot less money.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve I never said the schools make children stupid, but they certainly don't ake them any smarter. If a child went through life not going to school or readning a book or being taugh by their parents, they'd be stupid in American stadards at least. Which means the schools help children become smart andunderstand things better. If they can't do that, then whats the use? Your kid will be stupid. Not because the school made them, but becayse the school failed to help them.
Of course schools can't make student's IQ's any higher than they are, but in the terms of learning, I think schools do make children smarter. Maybe they don't learn everything there is to know in the whole world, but the schools do a sufficient job of teaching students the knowledge they need to know.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Also, regardless of outside influences, I'm sure childrne can still learn. There's bombings in Isreal and things being blown up and people being killed,yet their children still learn. Their university is still open. If you're devoted enough as a teacher and as a student, then you will learn. Despite anything else. Now oviously ofcourse i'm not balming the teachers and school system on the under developed mental capacity of our children, but it does reflect it in ways.
Of course there will be some students able to produce high grades in such an environment, but the number that do will be quiet low. -
What's the worst gift you have ever received?
Roxie Faye replied to Sephiroth's topic in General Discussion
Ah. I understand, and I do realize that a pet rock is an unacceptable gift, as well. Asfor a bad gift I've received, a rock tumbler when I was twelve. I'm thirteen now. I've never used it. But, it did cost a lot, and the person who gave it to me thought I'd like it. At least she thought of me, and I know she tried to think of something I'd like (shes my aunt). My mom gets me socks every year(socks with a christmas pattern on them), and my sister always thinks she's bizzare(sp?). I find them useful in the winter when my feet are cold. ^_^ -

Roxie Faye replied to Sephiroth's topic in General Discussion
Step back into reality? Would you be subtley implying that my morals are not realistic, or are you just kindly asking me to stick to the thread topic, and tell you people what my worst gift was, or perhaps both? -
I've heard some pretty strange things about countries, and I'm sure some of you have, too. For instance, someone in my school started a rumor that in Australia, the thumbs up sign means the middle finger in America, and the middle finger in Australia means the thumbsup in Amerca. Tired of the rumors I asked James, and of COURSE that's not true. I've also heard that all Asian people are smrt, which, being Asian, I can sya isn't true. I know just as many Asian Einstiens as I have people with IQ's of 100. Everything thinks we all have no problems, and grow up to be doctors, which isn't true. True, we do have a strobng work ethic, but it's in our own culture. We don't all become brain surgeons, though. lol. People can be silly at times. So, if there's anything you're heard of, about a country, ask it here, and hopefully someone can anwer your question. Or, if there's anything you want to clear up about a country, go right ahead. I have a question that maybe someone from the UK can answer for me. About a year ago, I was in a Harry Potter forum, and they had a department of International cooperation, where people could talk about different countries. One member was from the UK. He posted a thread about, how in the UK a chritmas time, you can't say all these things because they'd be offensive. Infact, the title of the thread said: "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas(no, no, no, that's too rascist)." He said that in the UK, you can't publicly display a manger scene on your lawn, because it has Joseph in it, which could be offensive to someone with divorced parents, or someone who is divorced. He said that you can't make snow men, or that you have to call them snow PEOPLE, because it's sexist, calling them snow MEN. And the same thing with gingerbread men. They're called gingerbread PEOPLE, instead, he claims. I find this rediculous, and I think he's lying, but, can someone from the UK tell me if this is true or not?

Roxie Faye replied to Sephiroth's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it matters what the horrible gift you got was(unless someone was doing it do be funny, like playing a trick on you by giving you a lumop of coal). The fact that someone went out of their way to buy you, or even make you something, should be what counts. It's the thought that counts. And besdes, you shouldn't worry about the gifts you're [getting it should be about giving gifts instead. One of my grandpa's motto's says: "It's better to give than to receive." -
Who should be responsible for the moral education of a child?
Roxie Faye replied to ChibiV's topic in General Discussion
Schools should not be the ones responsible for teaching children moral lessons. Yes, in kindergarden, you do learn not to hit others, and to share, etc., but if you haven't heard that at home first, and if it isn't enforced enough, 99.9% of the time, what the teachers teach you isn't going to stick, or work. It's the parents who should be teaching the morals.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Schools should be but it's those stupid parents that elect those stupid officials...
My mother is a teacher, and being the kid of the supervisor of the language arts/reading curriculm, I can tell you right now, that parents do not elect the teachers in the schools. The principals, and the superindendents of the district over see that, and decide which teachers to hire.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve ...who make stupid decisions...
Yes, some teachers can be quiet stupid, but don't you have some like that in EVERY proffesion of work? And maybe you say that the teaching profession has more. These people are making the average salary of $55,000 a year, and that's gross yearly income, you haven't taken the taxes out yet. These people are teaching because they love to be teaching.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve ...which just make their child... you guess it... stupid.
The schools don't make children stupid. It's the way they are. If your IQ is 100, it's going to stay that way, and there's nothing you can do to fix it. When you see poor report card grades, it usually means you're living in a low class city, or section of a city. Take for example, Jamaica Queens. Not the best place in NYC. Th outside life there, all the gangs, guns, street fights, are to blame for a child's low acedemic performance, because with all those ouside distractions, and not feeling too safe can be the cause of low report card grades. You can say the teachers there aren't the best. Why? Because of the area and it's aura, very few teachers would want to teach there. Once again, it's the life outside the classroom. Maybe it seems like I'm attacking TN. If it is, I apologize for having it seem that way, because it isn't how I intended it to seem. He has a right say what he wants, and I have a right to respond to it. -
I know you don't want my sympathy, but I'm sorry! That's just how I am. I'm sure it really does hurt, but you have to be positive, ya know? It'll go away eventually, and at least those guys got expelled from school. I'd have to say, that, thankfully, I've nevr been jumped by anyone. I live in a fairly sheltered town(and I don't really like the fact that I do. >_

Josh- because you're really cool, and I admire you for being able to moderate FIVE forums. O_o Ginny- You're such a wonderful person, and you're so nice. James- because he's James. :p and of course... Kinetic - I never get to talk to you a lot, but wanna duel you in person. ^_^ -
About your mom, it's natural to feel guilty, it's what humans do to themselves, but it isn't your fault. You couldn't have done anything about it. She was, and is the only one who can change her own life around. About Lisa, I am glad that you said no to her. It is hard to say no to someone like that, and I know you're feeling guilty(I would be, too), but if she was just using you, than you made the right descision to say no. You may feel that for the time you took her in, it was an absolute waste, but I told you this once before, that kindness will come back to you some day. What goes around comes around, and despite what that's supposed to mean, it can be used poitively, to. You WILL be repaid for your kindness, and Lisa will get what she deserves. And I do know what the last thing is, that's bothering you. You know you can always talk to me on AIM. I'm always on. :)
