Ah man I have been gone a long while. J0! to those who remember me and whats up to those who don't.

Anyways, Evangelion is truly awesome, and for true honest fans of the series will purchase the actual ADV release. Honestly, you guys are killing the anime industry with those bootlegs and free downloads. ADV has cut the amount of anime they can produce because of the money they lose to bootleggers, they cant afford to expand or buy more rights. Seriously, just buy the series.

That aside, also for true fans there who remember what my friend's and I have dubbed "Rei's Toast " episode, I believe it is Episode 25, where they show Rei running to school and bumps into Shinji, and the yells at him. This paritcular episode was taken and remade into a manga call Evangelion Angelic Days. Rei is happy and energetic, Shinji isn't and wimp, and Asuka is sisterly ( God help us ). Shinji winds up losing Eva Unit One mysterously, and when he arrives back without it, he claims it was like losing a 10000 ton pair of car keys.

You know, I thought the last trailer was pretty good-looking and all, but nothing shocking.

This is hot stuff. Some really appealing character animation. Just look at Rei.

Dagger's link doesn't work anymore, so: link.

But oh, Kaworu. Doesn't everyone love this guy? I got so excited when I saw him. :)

I was actually more impressed with Shinji's character animation, since Rei usually...doesn't have an expression. =_= Not that anime is known for good character animation, lol, but it was all still awesome anyway. So excited for all of the rebuild stuff, I'm just sad it can't come any earlier!

Also, the SD Eva (Petit Eva ~Evangelion@School~) will be adapted for video on August 10. Apparently it's a spin-off of the character set in a normal school. More info here.

Thanks for the second link. Also, there's some new footage in this excerpt from Utada's Beautiful World PV. The lyrics amused me. It helps that, as a song, it's way better than her Fly Me to the Moon.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, to me at least, is both overrated and underrated. Its not as good as Space Runaway Ideon (A Tomino show from the early 80s. watch it.), but it certainaly isn't as bad as its detractors (who are almost as numerous as its admirers) say it is. It has much to offer, both in characters and action, but is limited by the problems, both personal and budgetary, of its creators.

The new movies are going to tell a modified version of the story from the TV series. It will be very interesting to see what happens to Anno-san's baby with a bigger budget and more advanced animation technology.

Yet another trailer. Approximately an even mix of new & old shots. You can find it at YouTube as well, but the Stage6 version is waaaay better looking.

Another shoujo-ish NGE, but this time with action and swords. All I know so far is that the angels are now just pretty-boys with wings, and rather than mechs, they use weapons. And there will probably be a lot of gay moments with Shinji and Kaworu.

Kaworu's sword is so CLAMP. And yeah, more often than not, Asuka series do have a lot of BL innuendo. I hope the writing is better than in the Angelic Days manga...

Oh, who am I kidding. Give me some cool action (and don't leave the girls out!!), and I'll be happy. Those angel wings & shades kind of make me want to claw my eyes out, though.

Score! :)

Not really digging the character designs, though. *sigh* I wish BL existed outside of shoujo style anime.

A little bit more here, including a color pic.

I'm neutral on the art. Could be worse. (That said, the school uniforms are pretty bad.)

Yea well Evangalion was my first and favorite mecha for a long time. I never liked the ending but the rest of the series was good enough to balance that out. Until quite recently it has stayed my favorite anime until Z.O.E came along and popped it off the top with it's cute robot lead and awesome animation and story.

These side-by-side comparisons (juxtaposing the TV series against the first movie) are really neat.
By the way, the full version of Utada's Beautiful World came out recently.
Oh, you mean this?

Looking at the side-by-side comparisons serves to nicely bring together the feelings I've been having towards Rebuild for the past couple of months. It's all extremely pretty, of course, but I can't help wondering if a bigger animation budget is really all that we're getting here. What's the point, really? I mean, even if this is nothing but a purely commercial enterprise it'll still be good - even when Anno does something blatantly intended for the sole purpose of making money, he still manages to put that crazy touch of genius into it (Evangelion is especially interesting on this because it's among the absolutely most commercial of recent animes, being born basically from Gainax selling itself to King Records - which should seem strange to anyone who's seen more than two episodes). But even if it works, I don't know if it'll be good for much more than a rehash of something that was pretty much done a decade ago.

Which is not to say I won't be watching this and the other movies the moment the raws hits the torrents, mind. I'm still absolutely crazy about this ****.
[Neon Genesis Evangelion is] not as good as Space Runaway Ideon (A Tomino show from the early 80s. watch it.)...
Now this I really have to object to. The original Evangelion series is a mess, there's no doubt of that, but Ideon makes Evangelion look like Vertigo (which is not a good comparison, but it's the best-organized movie I can think of right now). I'd be willing to call the second movie, Be Invoked, a flawed masterpiece. I'd be willing to admit the series has a bunch of really nice moments. But good god, the slog you have to go through to get to them! The designs are painfully ugly (and this isn't just a criticism of turn-of-the-'80s mecha: Gundam looked way better than Ideon). The individual episodes are often repetitive and contrived. The themes are presented ham-handedly. But most of all, the characters are insufferable - they don't even try to be consistent, and typically end up acting like complete idiots in order to further the plot for that week.

The really great things about Evangelion can sometimes cover over the massive, glaring flaws. The good parts of Ideon actually make the flaws stand out more than before. I suspect it's the kind of show that's only liked by a) hardcore old-school mecha fans (and more power to them!) or b) people who really hate Eva and want to think that it stole all of its ideas. The only thing Ideon really has over Eva, in my book, is that it doesn't have (as much) ridiculous religious symbolism or psycho-scientific technobabble - which is, I admit, a big plus.

On the news that isn't really news front, CD Japan has the DVD cover art. (Guess who?) Simple but alarmingly charming. Makes me wonder if the rest of the movie covers will also be single-character (if so, probably Asuka --> the new girl, Kaworu or, heck, Misato --> Shinji).

Neon Genesis Evangelion is amazing. The metaphysics of the last few episodes had me in complete awe. Honestly, it so multi-layed and filled with religious and mythical allusion, any lit major would pretty much cream themselves. And the themes of self and the other that is man... good god! It's just wonderful! Interconnectivity... it hit me hard, especially when in came to Asuka and Misoto's stories. It was like they were telling my life story.

Hmm, I must of stumbled into a dream thread!:hippy:

Even though the shows been off for years, I still remember the day I saw it on toonami years ago. It was so awsome, and deppresing, but awsome! The story line was killer and the characters were deep. Thats what got me into the series.

I'm really beginning to look froward to 2.0 more now I did before. To be honest I was just a bit disapoiinted in 1.0 since it wasn't more than the first couple of episodes with better animation (except Ramiel who was unbelievably awesome), yet the trailer has me anticipating just what other new material they are adding in.
