Besides, what's the difference between shonen-ai and yaoi? I know the Ring Finger volume is yaoi, but i think that ghost is shonen-ai (so I heard). Do you know the difference? :)
Well, DMP published Ring Finger under their yaoi line. But if you're going to distinguish between yaoi and shounen-ai in the usual sense (that is, with shounen-ai being less explicit), then it would qualify as shounen-ai, as would Eerie Queerie. Interestingly, I've heard that in Japan, shounen-ai has come to mean something more like shota...

Some people still insist on only using the term yaoi when referring to boys' love doujinshi. It varies. Among English-speaking fans, however, anyone who attempts to draw a distinction between shounen-ai and yaoi usually means to say that yaoi is sexually explicit, whereas shounen-ai is more tame.

Part of what makes it confusing is that the major publishers take different approaches to the whole terminology issue. Tokyopop calls Gravitation & their other BL titles shounen-ai. DMP calls everything yaoi, and I'm pretty sure Be Beautiful does as well. Blu calls everything boys' love.

Yeah, but it's hardly borderline pornographic. It's less explicit than Gravitation, for example, which is also considered to be shounen-ai.

yaoi's okies.
i'm not a big fan of it, but i do like 2 yaoi animes :animeswea
It's Gravitiation and Sukisyo...i mean, you can't really tell that one of them is a guy!
(In both anime's there's a guy that have pink hair!^^)
So...it doesn't really bother me!
Although, my friends are obsessed with yaoi! They pair up about any non-yaoi character up!
Ex: DaisukeXDark or SatoshiXDark...well, it's all basically DNAngelthey pair up!... :catgirl:

Yo.

I'm a yaoi fan because I often find male characters, and the relationships between males, more interesting than females. I tend to prefer darker rival pairings over fluff, and I dislike pairings that have a Designated Uke.

I often avoid reading yaoi fanfiction, because many yaoi fangirls are keen on altering the characters' personalities to their liking, or focus too much on the physical aspects of gay relationships. Character interaction is what I'm interested in, mostly.

Your post reminded me of something, and I apologize for using it as a bit of a springboard. :animeswea

To get to the point, though, I'm going to cheat by copying & pasting something I posted at another forum:

I've noticed that I tend to enjoy reading about relationships in which two characters are drawn to each other romantically/sexually, but with undercurrents of hatred, loathing, contempt or just flat-out revulsion (either mutual or one-sided).

I don't mean anything seriously abusive, or the sort of relationship in which they yell at each other explosively all the time--what I'm looking for is an atmosphere with romantic/sexual tension, plus hints of those darker & more conflicted feelings simmering under the surface. This kind of thing is fairly easy to find in BL. Actually, some of what goes on in the first volume of La Esperanca isn't that far off the mark, in terms of what I'm looking for. However, I don't think I've ever seen it in het romance, and the only yuri-esque examples that come to mind are one or two of the relationships in Oniisama E.

I didn't think about this in depth until recently, but it really is true that you can find character dynamics in BL that are more or less impossible to find in het anime/manga. I believe there would be more of that darkness in yuri if there were more yuri in general.

(Admittedly, this whole post has more to do with manga and fanworks than anime, since the volume of BL anime is small in comparison, and thus has less variety.)

I thought I was all alone in this world. *wibbles*

In all seriousness, that romantic/sexual tension is what I like most in rival pairings. In my experience, guys are often openly aggressive over rivalries, and yet become completely overwhelmed, even confused, at the slightest sexual urge or hint of affection for someone, especially if it's directed towards the person they supposedly hate. It really makes for interesting internal conflict.

Anyway, long Naruto-related rant ahead:
I mean why is sasuke normally the seme, i think he should be a uke when paired with Naruto.
*cackles*

First off, while both Naruto and Sasuke are strong-willed and stubborn, Naruto is more sensitive. He's like a wounded puppy; even if he's hurt by the people he cares about, he won't stop loving those people because of it. Sasuke, on the other hand, is defensive. He's wary of having emotional attachments with other people, because he's afraid of eventually getting hurt by them. (And for good reason, too.) In a way, I could see how others would interpret Naruto as being the uke of the two.

In any case, Naruto and Sasuke are way too proud to be willing ukes. Frankly, you'd have to fight those boys to get them underneath you. (Sorry for wording it that way, but that's how it is. :animeswea)

I like yaoi, but I agree that some of the bishounen are too girlie. Actually the only yaoi I really like the animation style of is Ai no Kusabi, and I don't think that's really yaoi... i.e, made for women. I also don't like it when fan fiction writers pair off guys who obviously aren't into each other... or other guys generally. The Gundam Wing boys are pretty sexually ambiguous, but in most series the characters' orientations are pretty clear.
Bloodseeker, when you say something as provocative as you did in this forum, you really need to explain why you think so. Otherwise you'll just look like a ignorant newbie, which you aren't really. (Just a friendly advice.)

I'm gay (well, duh!), but I don't consider myself a yaoi-fan.

Why? Two male manga-characters getting down on each other is hawt, but I really don't like the style of mating a gorgeous, tall-as-a-house popular guy with a short, awkward, big-eyed boy who looks like a girl without boobs. :/

That's just isn't gay, if you get my drift! In my opinion many girls love yaoi (over say gay porn), because the main character is almost always as girlish as them. And the yaoi-girliness is very far from the pretentious, overdone, "pink positive" behaviour that some Western gay guys favor.

My point is, to me yaoi-manga looks very similar to "straight" manga, because the main character could very well be a girl personality- and behaviour-wise - just draw a few more curves at him and voilá! :P

Take Gravitation for an example: in a purely visual and aesthetic p-o-w, I'd be more than happy to see the tall, handsome guys hitting it off with each other, if they'd erase that main character with his huge eyes and dressing-up fetish. Now, of course the main character is crucial to the plot of the manga, and makes it what it is, but does he really need to be a girl with a wang? 8/
Try FAKE.......none of the guys look like girls....ever....there may be some flower petals-floating-past-head action there but no girl look alikes...(excepting J.J who is a little boy and is given that exception..... :animeswea )
Anyway, I digress... check it out.... you'll like it.....I guarantee....

I'm not exactly a yaoi fan. I find it, how should I put this, disturbing, in a way(and It's illegal in Denmark :animeswea ) But that's your opinion and I respect that. Don't take me wrong.

Anyhow, I'm not saying I hate yaoi fans, I'm just saying that's not my type of anime.

Okay, I'm here! XDD I'm a major fangirl, and, sadly/fortunately, I can find it anywhere XD *points to avatar* In fact, I think I've found it in every show I've watched XD Of course, *points to avatar again* is my favourite (and sadly non-existant) pairing at the time :animeswea :animeshy:

I love yaoi. I've been into it for about six years. I love anime yaoi, but I am espically into manga yaoi. I recently picked up Mirage of Blaze because the art is supposed to be good. Some of my favorite pairings are; Gundam Wing - DuoXanyone. FMA - EnvyXED, EdXHohenheim :animeblus , EdXRoy. Gravitation - YukiXYuki, TachiXShuichi
:D. If anybody here doesn't like what I say, keep it to yourself. I get enough of it at school. But, if people have nice things or constructive things to say about yaoi, I encourage them to post.

I'm the scaryest yaoi fan girl you'll ever meet. If you mention a yaoi couple from an anime I know, I've probably written a fanfic on it. I personally love to read Naruto yaoi fics with naruto as the uke! He's adorable as one! "squeals" It's really hot top. :animenose I also like RoyEd from FMA, lots of digimon yaoi pairings, and other animes! I've even written a DracoHarry yaoi fic, though seeing it's not an anime, it's techonically called slash. . . I love shonen-ai too. It's like fluffy, sweet yaoi, were the worst they do is a peck on the lips, if they ever get past holding hands! :animesmil I have a shirt that says, "Shonen-ai is a way of life. . ." and on the back it says, ". . . Embrace it." People ask me what it means but I just laugh and say they'll learn someday. I quess this fangirlism started when I did research on coming out. I got hooked! ;)

I bet i am freaker XD
I have been into yaoi for about 8 years now, i think i have already wrote this but yeah.

I hate Naruto as a uke, T_T sasuke makes a much better uke, and the same with Ed from FMA, but that just me, cos i know not alot of people like ed as a seme. But the best will always be duo and heero, they kinda set off the trend of yaoi pairings and such for me.^_^
I much prefer yaoi to shounen Ai and i do have a growing fondness for shota, gay shota only tho, but i think the cuteness draws you in and then once your in you get suck
Um WTH is Yaoi. I heard about it in comic party but I dont know what it is.
comic party isn't a yaoi, it's more shujo then anything, cos there is only two guys in it. Comic party is basically i guy who wants to be a manga artist and he goes to conventions and thing to learn more about it and then he starts making his own comics.

Yaoi is a term of Japanese origin used to refer to manga or fan art that focuses on homosexual relationships between male characters. It can be compared with shōnen-ai, which focuses on the same topic, but is (typically) not as graphic in its portrayal of homosexuality. Both categories are now commonly referred to as Boys' Love in Japan.
From wikipedia

But i just think it's a gay relationship, where one guys plays the uke and the other plays the seme(e.g male and female roles), mostly when you refer to yaoi, it's the sexual part of the manga or anime, normally shounen Ai doesn't have sex in it.
