Well helllooo there!
*hasn't made a thread in a while*
Well summer is coming up in like, four months and I'm planning to get a summer job! I'm going to be a concessionaire (free popcorn!). :excited: As I was thinking this over it made me wonder........what were your "first" jobs? Were (are) they anything close to your chosen field? Mine is obviously not.........it has nothing to do with doctoring. I just want to get it out of my system before my 11 wonderful college years. :animedepr So....?
I WISH I could get a summer job. But I'm 14 and I don't think the state of New York allows 14 year olds to get summer jobs...:animedepr If I did, it would be at Barnes&Noble.:catgirl:
Our movie theater doesn't either. Only 15 and up. That's why I'm waiting until after my birthday. :catgirl:

My first 'jaerb' was at Blockbuster Video when I was but the tender age of 15. My official title was Customer Service Rep but really I just stocked ur shelves and took ur money. Etc. Not too glamorous, had to wear a really really lame and oversized polo shirt and dress pants for a uniform. LAME.

I worked there for 7 months. The pay structure was horrible, incentives were crap and some terrifying schizophrenic fellow tried to stalk me on one of his bad days.

I too live in New York. What's worse is I'm at least half an hour from a city. And the nearest city is infamous for having a ton of pedophiles in the area. Luckiy, I turn sixteen this August, so luck be with me. First, however, I'll need to get my papers.

This summer I'll be helping my dad build a house for my cousin. It's a good chance for me to play guitar with my cousin too. That, and like every year, I mow the lawn for a quick 15 dollars.

Ahh I remember my first job, 15 1/2 working at McDonalds (cliche much?). Saddly enough I stayed their for 3 years until enlisting (they worked around sports schedules really good). Wow....I'm getting old. Let me just add this....

Worked 200 hours a day and walked 10 miles up hill both ways just to work for $.15 an hour.....there now its official!

My first job was as an errand boy for the county courthouse. I did such odd jobs as "move all these books," "clean up this file room!" and "finish writing our records."

It had decent pay... about eight or nine an hour (I can't remember exactly), giving more then enough money to live off of during my first year of college even though I only worked for about 2 weeks. The hours were nice, and I got free lunches on account of working for my grandma.

FUN FACT: I am now at least the third generation of my family to work in that damn place. Perhaps fourth, I'm not sure.

My second summer job was less enjoyable but oh so much more rewarding. I don't mean spritiually rewarding either. I was making beaucoup bucks.

I suggest that anyone who has the chance to work construction during their summer months do it at least one year. I made close to ten thousand dollars for three, maybe three and a half months of work.

Woolworths. The company that went bust, lol.

I only worked for about three or four months. I had to quit (it was half me quitting half me being discharged) because of bad health or something, can't remember what it says on the paperwork exactly. So that was my first and only job I've had.

Now I'm on the sick (around a hundred quid a fortnight) until my doctor stops writing me sicknotes and lets me go back.

(And no I didn't kill anyone while I was at Woolworths ¬_¬.)

My first job was working in a grocery store, bagging stuff, retrieving carts and loading stuff into people's cars. Not even close to my chosen field of music. I kind of delivered papers too, but that was more my brothers job and I just got dragged into helping him with it.

Later on I ended up working at a mall for some little shop as a cashier. That didn't last though since the place was torn down to build something else. Now I teach, though I might take this summer off since I'm getting burned out and I need to focus on other things for school.

I've worked at a summer day camp at my church since I was 14. Basically, 15 hours a week for about 6 weeks watching kids. It's harder than it seems sometimes.

My next job was at a party supply store. I guess that wasn't really a *summer* job, but I worked there for about a year.

Then there is/was the sports bar. I've worked there for 2 1/2 years but am taking a break for college.

When I was 15, I worked all three of those jobs at once. Whoo!

This summer, I'll hopefully be getting a paid internship at Eli Lilly. If I get that, I'll work there & the sports bar on evenings/weekends. If not, I'm back to the day camp + sports bar + another job of my choosing.

Yep.

My first job was/is at chickfila. (for those of you not inhabiting the South Eastern United States, this is a fairly popular fast food restaurant that serves food of the chicken equation.) After working there for approximately 4 years (since I was 15..woohoo.) I have still failed to formally quit, even though I am at school trying to become a history teacher, & will probably return to work there over my summer vacation, because the much better job I had aquired at an insurance auditing company as a "top secret file specialist" this previous summer has been filled by the big man's son :animecry:...

ANYWAY, if it is not possible to return to this much more dignified line of work, I will sincerely miss out on seeing my old cubicle mates after this long year, even though I would definitely consider my coworkers at Chickfila close friends whom with I still hang out regularly. Until May, I am adamantly searching for a better job, because a job in fast food is what I consider one of the most degrading paths in life that one can take.

My first job was working at a water park when I was fifteen. I did the minigolf, batting cages and land rovers. One of my cousins worked there, so we used to harass each other on breaks. I hated the job though, summer is wayyy too hot! And sometimes the track that but the balls in the batting cage machine would get stuck. I had to manually but the balls on the tracks to the shooting thingies. People used to yell at me to hurry up. Jerks. AND I realised that they cheated me on my pay. I turned 16, as I was working, thus I was supossed to get paid more after my birthday...

Ah yes, summer jobs. This is always a fun topic. Well, my first job was about a month after summer, and it was in retail. All you on the East coast will know the place, Steve & Barrys. I worked their for about a year, doing almost nothing at first, but then several people were laid of suddenly and I was suddenly doing everything. It was a nice job since the people i worked with made it bearable. That is, until we were all told it was closing down, for good. And then the customers got nasty and everyday i thought about hitting at least one of them every time they came up to my register.

Anyways, another job shortly after Steve and Barrys was being a game tester for Sony. I still take part in testing from time to time and I do it now so that I can eventually get into the field I want by trying to get some sort of scholarship from the Sony corporation. But currently, I am working at another retail store called Sports fever, its a rather cushy job because I talk to people about sports, and i sit on my *** for about 4 hours a day and make 9 bucks an hour. Its mind numbing though.

My first summer job was construction and lemme tell ya, it didn't pay much.

Anyway, now I'm happy to have a job that I can work all year round, even during school. YAYFUN. But at least I'm making a difference. We work with adults who want to continue their education, mainly the guys at the North Idaho Correctional Institution. I just do office work, but it's something.

I have to start looking for a new job this summer though, because this one just doesn't pay squat. Besides, budget cuts will probably get rid of my job altogether. :(

Well, I'm volunteering at my church right now, putting items in the bulletins for each Sunday. It's not much...but I get out of the house...AND I do get to interact with my church family, who come to the office for business related things and my preacher, which is a GOOFBALL to be around.... :animesmil

You should do like me and join the military. Make a living having your soul sucked out by big muscle-bound men in funny hats while they in turn make you into a muscle-bound man and make you wear a funny hat (actually I look quite nice in a beret).

I just got out of training, MOS qualified as a Paralegal Specialist now, and I start doing drill weekends once a month. My summer job is hopefully going to be an unpaid internship teaching little kids on ritalin how to do semi-decent karate while I earn my own free training from the owner of their school.

Also I'll be starting my college courses this summer.

So yeah.

Hello again, by the way.

last summer i worked as a dancer/performer at kings island, which is the largest amusement park in the midwest located in cincinnati, ohio. it was fun - but a lot of hard work. they offered me another position this summer, but i turned it down - i chose to continue to be a server even though dancing was a lot more money.

Well my first "job" was at a petshop, and only lasted a couple months. In short, it was a complete and utter nightmare. I took it when I was the legal age here to get a work license: 16.

My first REAL job was working at the local public library for 2 years. I loved working there, but unfortunately the newest manager didn't feel the same way for me. But I just started working the front desk and as a teaching assistant at the taekwondo studio that I attend. Not my dream job, but it's money in my pocket, especially when nowhere else around here is hiring. And I get to occasionally boss kids around, and if they backtalk, I get to watch them do 50 push-ups.

My family has their own business so my first job was working for my parents. It wasn't too bad since part of it is a series of plant nurseries . It's fun helping plant the seeds and then take care of them until they're ready to be sold. I'll be working there again this summer as one of the cashiers. School was so draining this semester that I decided to take a break for the summer.

The first "job" type thing I had was volunteering for the local library one summer. I was supposed to work there during the school year and get paid, but they had issues.

So the next summer I started to work for a doctor's office, and I've been working there every summer since. However, I'm trying to get a different job this summer *crosses fingers* because I feel like I've outgrown the place a little bit. It's sort of boring, now.

We'll see. I may return to the doctor's office whether I like it or not. =/

It's summer now, so I guess this counts as a summer job. I get paid to write!

On my own accord and terms, mostly. Nothing big, nothing professional, but I already have fiddy quid (£50) and another seventy-five on the way at the end of the month and that's only for one project which hasn't even started properly yet. I found another little company that pays you 10p a word to write articles for them, which is good stuff.

And I may have another gig helping some Media students write scripts for their short movies, which isn't too bad at all.

I'm not really kick-started yet but I'm damn well getting there! And to think this all started with one silly advert I posted on a silly Manchester job site =).

Now that's what I call a summer job. Not bad for someone without college education or experience, haha.

I have a sort-of job/apprenticeship at Columbia Martial Arts & Fitness where I'm their new assistant instructor for children's classes. In return, instead of pay, I train in their adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Mixed Martial Arts/Muay Thai classes for free. Keeps me busy and in amazing amounts of pain.
