1. Julian hadn?t slept. He had been fine the night before he came to the Hall, in his own bed, in his own house. Now, the insomnia that had cursed him so many times before was back. His first night in the Hall consisted of tossing and turning, and opening his eyes every hour or so to stare at the wall. His new room smelled stale, and the bed sheets were cold and stiff. Even the wall he had watched all night was uncomfortable just to look at. Sunlight streamed through the window across the room. Squinting, he sat upright and leaned into his hand, his elbow propped on his leg. First thing on my to-do list, he thought: get curtains. He waited on the bed for a while, sitting with his eyes buried in his hands. Footsteps passed by his door, followed by the sounds of people muttering to themselves. He figured he should at least get acquainted with the faces of his new community, even though he wasn?t planning on really getting to know any of them. He pulled black denim pants and a band shirt-today it was Misfits, dark red with an ominous reaper in front-from his suitcase and changed into them, then stepped into simple black slip-on shoes. A quick glance in the mirror on his door confirmed that his shadowy eye makeup hadn?t quite faded away overnight. He decided he looked presentable enough, opened the door, and slowly walked out of his bedroom. The hallway stretched forever in both directions, and he sighed in sudden defeat. It was reason enough to just go back to bed. But as he turned to go back into his room, he noticed people gathering down one way. Sighing once again, he headed down the hallway towards them. Maybe one of them knows where I can get curtains.
2. That's one of the biggest problems for me--finding band members who actually agree on the sound we'd make. Right now, my vocalist and I only want to cover AFI until we can get enough songs written. I'm not sure how my bassist feels about this, but I know she prefers bands like The Who and Say Anything. And the prospective drummer we're considering is all about metal and wants to play double bass. I mean, I love double bass at times, but I'm not sure how I feel about it being in a semi-punk band. Strung Out uses double bass, and I love Strung Out, but I'm not so sure I want to sound like them all the time. Another huge problem is not having any equipment. I have a really crappy unknown brand (Wildfire?) electric guitar that seems to be falling apart. Our vocalist has a nice Fender, and I'm willing to disregard my detest for Fenders until I can afford a Gibson Les Paul Studio (I want one in every color!). However, even though my crappy unknown brand amp (Drive?) is a lot better than her even crappier amp, it is definitely not enough to power a concert. And I don't have any kind of amp for my bass (which our bassist will use once she learns it, hah). I've set my sights high--Gibson guitars and Marshall half-stacks--but I'm short on money and I definitely can't even afford a cheap little Marshall combo amp. Siigh.
3. I've tried to have journals. Mostly when I was in elementary school. I pretty much just wrote on the first page of each one everytime I got one and forgot that I was supposed to continue writing the next day. Nowadays, with the internet and whatnot, I have several journals I can actually maintain. I don't really call them blogs because I never really do bloggy things, like rant about something or critique something or whatever. I just write about my day and stuff. I've had a myOtaku which I kept for about two years or so, there are four Livejournals floating around spanning from my eight grade year to now (one of which I still write in), my band's myspace blog, and now I have a blogspot thing. So yeah, internet journals are definitely easier than real journals.
4.
Oi, that movie was awesome. The best scene was definitely the part where the door opens and the girls like
"I'm a singing telegram!" and BAM! she gets shot XD
That was just too good.
I have a lot of favorite parts from Clue, but the one relevant to that scene was when
the cast goes from room to room and sees everybody dead, and someone's like "Three murders. Six altogether. This is getting serious."
And the characters are just so...aaagh, I can't even put into words how AMAZING the characters are.
5. I don't think I can place them in any order, but I can probably think of five movies. Addams Family Values I've always liked Addams Family, whether it's the original version on TV land or what used to come on ABC Family. I think there was a cartoon version, too. Anyway, I watched this movie on TV one day and instantly fell in love. What's better than dark humor coming from a creepy little girl with a gigantic fivehead? Not much. Clue The board game was always fun to play on a rainy day, and just as fun to play when it's sunny. Then my sisters showed me the movie, and I became obsessed with it. It seriously one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I think this murder mystery just might be slightly better than Addams Family. Labyrinth Okay. The past two movies have been my favorites for a while now. But I first saw Labyrinth when I was six years old, and I have loved it religiously ever since. I think it deserves a little more love than it's film favorite companions. Jim Henson is an absolute genius, as well as his son Brian. The Wizard of Oz I've loved this movie just as long as I've loved Labyrinth, despite WoOz being half a century older. Seriously, if you haven't seen this movie, you're crazy. It's a freakin' classic. I've read the book, of course, and seen the musical it was based on. I used to be crazy obsessed with it, but I'll still run down the hallway and trip and almost break my arm to see it. (True story). The Shining I remember first hearing about this movie from my friend when we were in elementary school. She said it was very scary and whatnot, which turned me off from it for a really long time. I went through all my life being unable to watch horror movies because I was scared they'd give me nightmares. Then one day sometime during the past two years, I found it on TV and decided to watch it. This was the first movie that made me realize I could handle horror, and even after seeing plenty of other movies in that genre, The Shining remains my favorite.
6. Sic Semper Tyrannis! This is from a sketch comedy show, Whitest Kids U'Know, on Fuse. The show itself isn't all that funny, aside from a couple cute moments or so. However, I really liked that sketch, despite it's abrupt ending. It's a parody of Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
7. Here it goes again. :] 1. Trans-Siberian Orchestra; "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" This band is freaking amazing. I've seen them live twice, and I plan on seeing them again in November. Their live shows could probably kill someone if they played for longer than two hours--it's just that awesome. They've got a billion lights all synced to the music, which is played by sixteen or seventeen people. Oh man, just thinking about it is making me excited;
8. note: I didn't draw that. Google Latawnya the Naughty Horse, srsly. That's all I have that could be considered a webcomic right now. I mean, I have countless doodles, but they really only make sense to me (and a select few others). I'm gonna try to draw a real comic of sorts soon. Oh, I did find something that's about three years old. Haha, I made fun of the band Nightwish whenever I could when I was in the eighth grade. Ironically, they were my favorite band at the time. Page One Page Two
9. According to the allergist, I'm allergic to both cats and dogs. I've never had a severe allergic reaction to either of them, though. The most that ever happens is that my eyelid will puff up and itch. Charlotte is really playful and scratches me a lot, and the scratch starts itching for a while. I'm not sure if that's a part of my allergy or not...do cat scratches usually form wheals like mosquito bites? I'm slightly worried about Goldy now. He's about ten and he weighs less than Charlotte, who isn't even a year old. Granted, Goldy is allowed to go outside and Charlotte isn't, but I can get Charlotte to play with her toys. She does eat food out of all three animals' bowls. We're trying to stop her from doing that. >:[
10. 1. Siouxsie and the Banshees; "The Passenger" This song usually comes on when I listen to Sirius Dark Wave. I think it's a cover, but I'm not really sure. 2. The Cruxshadows; "Winterborn" Ah, this takes me back to my goth phase in the eighth grade. Woooow. 3. Placebo; "Infrared" I think this is my favorite song by them. Right up there with Pure Morning, Come Home, and Nancy Boy. "Someone call the ambulance..." 4. Death From Above 1979; "Blood On Our Hands" I haven't listened to this enough to know much about it. It sounds sort of like Blood Brothers, who I like a lot. 5. Norma Jean; "Sometimes It's Our Mistakes That Make For the Greatest Ideas" This is my least favorite Norma Jean song. I've never been able to listen past the intro, simply because it was boring. I don't think screaming and slow music mix very well. 6. Rasputina; "The New Zero" This band is so awesome, and this song is really cute. "It's there that no will stare at your jaws and your long fur, the claws in your fingers. It's in the past when the passersby laughed at your strange way of speaking, your batteries leaking. Oh no, oh god no, they don't know the New Zero."
11. I never really fake sick, 'cause I'm a horrible liar. However, if there is something I want to get out of (school, church, etc.) I would actually try to get sick. It never really works on such short notice, though. It saddens me that there aren't any websites with tips on how to contract a cold. :P Whenever one of my friends got sick, I would beg them to cough on me. Some of them would, some of them would look at me like I was asking for their fingernails or something. Fortunately for me, I found out that my body is never completely healthy--I just don't notice that I'm sick because I've been this way for a long time. So, I guess if I come in contact with any kind of sick germ, BOOM. Sometimes, though, I do have to overreact to my sickness, because it wouldn't be so bad otherwise. And if sickness doesn't work..."Uuuugggh, I have really bad cramps :[[ *teartear*"
12. This one's a little old, but I think it's still alright. Like Enigma Dissipates, it has music. However, the many times I've tried recording it, I can never play past the intro correctly. I'm considering rewriting the music. :/ Porphyria You say it's a crime to fly When the sun's too hot for our midnight eyes I must admit, there's no way that I'd deny A chance to see the light within you. So carry on, you know I don't care. I'd say anything, but no one will hear. The very thought of losing you here Kills me endlessly, but nobody cares So often I know you're there And the distance remains just to be unfair I must admit, it's always that I despair How much I'd love to be the light around you. I'll always remember. Again, the song (which was written in order of First Verse, Chorus, Second Verse, Break) would actually be sung First Verse, Chorus, Second verse, chorus, break, chorus, chorus.
13.
Well since it's not necessarily a role-playing game, is it just searching for clues and the posting our findings in the thread, or will it be kinda "Clue"-like in the sense we'll post in the main thread as though it were a story. And is it a competition or a collective thing??? And where would the clues be hidden? (Assuming that it's not a collective story) Would they be anywhere on OB or elsewhere? I have way too many questions but it's like BK said, it's already interesting just from the mystery of your intro. I'll give it a shot.
The way I'm envisioning it, the main thread would be for dissecting the clues and posting the answer (so it would pretty much be a collective effort). As for your second question, all I can say is that the first clue in each section would be here, but after that they'll take you from one website to another. And I'm already planning an actual RP based on the game Clue. I just want to see how well this one fares before diving into another one. Hah, the responses so far are making me even more excited.
14. Welcome. This is hardly a role-playing game. There aren't any roles to play. The only character is dead, and no living being has even realized it. However, she's not incommunicado. This game is a murder mystery. Our ghostly host only wants for her death to be acknowledged. She wants for people to know who she is, who killed her, where, and with what. It's up to you to follow her clues and to uncover the answers to the mystery. These clues could be anything: videos, pictures, poems, songs, screen names, etc. They could range from being easy to decipher or pretty challenging to figure out. At this point, the game is still in the planning stages, but I'm ready to accept sign-ups. All you have to do is reply--you don't have to create a character or anything like that. Of course, if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can. (I can't give too much away, of course!). For now, the sign-ups will close Monday, June 25. I'm really excited for this to get underway, and I hope we can make it ultra-fun. :]
15. I think I'll give it a try. I've never really RP'd in a forum, but I guess everyone has to get started somewhere. Name: Julian Amery. Age: 19. Gender: Male. Appearance: He's tall and lanky (and yes, he's heard the tree joke before). His hair reaches his shoulders and is wild (yet very well maintained) and brown. On top of jokes about his height, he's used to being called "zombie" or "vampire," due to his pale skin. He thinks his eyes are his best feature, as they're extremely green and bright. As if to compliment his skin, all of his clothing is black or some other dark color. He also likes to dabble in makeup and is very rarely seen without eyeliner, at the very least. He pretty much plays up the stereotypical loner as bet he can so people will get his point. Biography: He was born in New York, but his family moved to California when he was only two years old. Fitting in was impossible for him his entire life, as he developed an unshakable introversion at a young age. This was made even worse when he discovered the first of his powers as a freshman in high school: he accidentally cut himself on a scalpel during a dissection lesson in biology (see Powers for the full story, so to speak). Julian never even tried to make friends after that. He only decided to come to Esper Hall after his Uncle Adam convinced him that it would help him beyond belief. The uncle himself has abilities very similar to Julian's, but to a far greater extent. Powers: 1. He doesn't bleed. In the beginning, this only applies to small wounds. 2. On top of this, all his injuries heal much faster than they should. The scalpel injury had completely healed as if he had never been cut before school let out that day. 3. He doesn't really consider this a power, but he can hold his breath for up to ten minutes (but only eight minutes under water). 4. This power was only discovered recently, and it was only an accident. He can levitate a few inches off the ground and glide for very short distances. Affinity: It's very hard to tell, at a glance. Whenever anyone would ask, he would simply say "it's none of your business." Other facts: After having to dissect a fetal pig in ninth grade biology, he became vegan and refused to participate in any activities of that sort from then on. He has a very slow, soft heartbeat--doctors usually had difficulty taking his pulse because of how unnoticeable it is. He always has cold hands, even after warming them by a fire. His body temperature averages an unusual 93.7 degrees (Fahrenheit). His worst fears include drowning, people wearing masks, snakes, and heights. (Kind of ironic considering his levitation skills). He has sporadic bouts of insomnia, ranging from one to two nights a week. He once couldn't fall asleep for an entire week during high school and fell into a failing range in many of his classes.
16.
For future reference, you dont have to use the color and size markers on every paragraph. It makes you impossible to quote >_< Anywho, how on earth does the act of drowning come across as cute to you?!?! You did know that said 'gee' and not 'glee' right? 'gee' is a force of gravity...
I read it as glee. :/ Even when I went back and read it again, I still thought you meant glee. I did think it was unique, though. I don't think I've ever seen a rhyme scheme quite like that. It flowed (pardon the pun) very well. The first time I read the first four lines, I couldn't help but smile at how nicely it fit together. Good job. :]
17. Welcome, Inkstitchling. I can tell you're going to be a very nice addition to the OtakuBoards community.
18. Pink hair. No questions. Honestly, I really don't care about hair color. I only want to dye my own (brown) hair every now and then, but I don't even know what color I'd make it. I guess I will say I'd rather have dark hair, since it compliments my deathly pallor well enough.
19.
AFI was a punk band until they ruined their sound by becoming something of an alternative rock band with black metal vocals thrown in to cash on the Cradle of Filth obsession that everyone got into several years too late.
Cradle of Filth...? As far as I know, Dani Filth is well known for his mix of low-growls and high-pitched squeals. I haven't really listened to anything by them myself, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing like AFI at all. And trust me, I know what AFI sounds like. :P As for whether or not they're emo, I don't have much input. I know I'm not an expert on any genre at all, but I really don't consider them emo at all. "Miss Murder" is a terrible representation of their sound and lyrics as a whole. Oh yeah, there are a couple reasons why AFI have changed their sound. The biggest one is that they like to reinvent themselves with each new release; they said they'd get board if they just wrote the same sounding stuff over and over again. I don't understand how people can relate their current album to bands like MCR or Green Day (maybe because I don't listen to those bands). The other reason is that the singer, Davey, developed nodes on his vocal cords before the release of Sing the Sorrow and he had to get surgery. Now, in order to protect his vocal cords from further damage, he has to sing and scream in a completely different way. They still play their older songs live, but he can't do the punk style screaming anymore.
Mindless Self Indulgence[/color']
Very yes! This band is seriously a lot of fun. My favorites by them are Shut Me Up, Planet of the Apes, I Hate Jimmy Page, and Straight to Video. I only own a few of their songs, but I haven't heard any I didn't like. And speaking of which, it sounds like Jimmy might've gotten some kind of vocal inspiration from the Exorcist 2 music. Jeeez. Oh yeah, there's a new group I'm very very fond of: Blaqk Audio. And it's not just because it consists of AFI's Davey Havok and Jade Puget. That may have something to do with it, but I truly love the songs they've released so far. Blaqk Audio is completely electronic--no guitars whatsoever--and has been likened to Depeche Mode and Joy Division. Their album is coming out August 7th, and it makes me crazy with excitement. Argh, I keep forgetting stuff:
As you know, Slipknot and their ilk are nowhere NEAR being metal bands, but the MTV community defines them as such. My Chemical Romance isn't an emo band, just as Korn isn't metal.
I was watching VH1's Forty Most Metal Songs, and Slipknot and KoRn somehow made it to the list. Now, I like KoRn, but it really pissed me off that both of them made the list. As opposed to someone like Danzig or something. (Which may or may not be metal either, but hell!)
20. I wrote this a while ago, but I still think it's very cute. These are characters in my humongous vampire "series." I don't know if these particular ones have appeared in any other of my stories...Nils has, but he's just a cameo this time around. And for those of you who REAAALLY care, I'll try to write something with *Edward* in it. :P Uhm...[M] for language/sexual content? :P #1 (Lucio) ?Do it again!? The water slide leads into the hot tub, which definitely isn?t meant to have people flying into it. The steaming water is covered by a mountain of white bubbles with a gaping person-shaped hole in the middle. Charlotte is sitting atop the slide, covered in suds, gripping the edges like a psychopath. ?Do it again!? I sigh and climb up the slide?s ladder. ?Why don?t you just push yourself down?? ?Because,? she says. ?Push me!? I shove her down the slide and she screams in delight, then disappears underneath the bubbles. In less than a second she?s out of the tub and back on top of the slide, yelling at me. ?Do it again!? ?No,? I demand. ?I?ve pushed you down a million times. I?m tired.? She stares at me indignantly, her green eyes burning. ?No you?re not. You?re never tired.? Saying nothing, I beat a path through the pile of suds and step into the tub. She groans and throws herself down the slide, colliding with me and pushing both of us underwater. Laughing evilly, she pins me to the bottom. I just hold my breath and glare. In a few minutes, she lets me go and resurfaces. ?I?m bored,? she says when I come up. I smile and she sees the idea in my eyes. ?Do you want to go to bed?? #2 (Charlotte) ?Do it again!? Lucio is giggling like a schoolgirl, lying on the bed with his arm around my shoulder. The alarm clock on the nightstand says it?s four o? clock in the fucking morning. If I told him that he wouldn?t think anything of it. ?Do it again!? I groan and push his arm off me. ?I don?t want to.? ?Please,? he says, pursing his lips in a pout. He grasps my hand as I sit up, coaxing me back down. ?This is ridiculous,? I sigh. ?You?re still energetic, but I?m tired and my back is out.? He frowns, narrowing his eyes. ?Your back is not out, you liar. Besides, you kept saying ?do it again do it again? and I pushed you down that damn slide over and over. You won?t even do this for me?? "But I am tired, and if I don't get my sleep I'm just no good!" The bedroom door flies open, though I could?ve sworn I told Lucio to lock it. In runs Nils, holding a pair of dusty old socks. ?Lucio,? he exclaims, ?I found your socks!? Lucio bursts upright, snarling. ?Go away! We?re busy!? ?But I found your socks,? Nils urges, looking very hurt. ?I don?t have any socks,? Lucio growls. Nils ignores that fact and thrusts the disgusting socks at us persistently. ?I looked all over for them and I found them under the couch.? Lucio?s eyes glow red with frustration and he clenches his teeth. ?Thank you,? he says angrily. ?Now get out!? Nils flies out the door with the socks, laughing like a maniac. ?He came in here just to annoy me,? Lucio says, calming down quickly. ?Well, he?s gone now,? I smile. ?Now we can go to bed.? Lucio?s expression becomes malevolent, and his hand flashes out to pull me down. ?Sleep!? I gasp. ?I mean sleep!?
21.
Also I'd like to ask another question. Are tabulatures for guitarrs illegal or something? I must be missing something here.[/B']
Try www.ultimate-guitar.com. Some sites have removed their tabs because of legal action against them or something. I don't really understand it.
22. Hah, r2, you and your signature strongly resemble each other. :] This was taken by my friend, Dani, who is amazingly skilled at photography. (She has a myspace for it here.). She'd bring her camera to lunch often; this was done a day or two after our school's blood drive. That alone got a big laugh from me, but the girl I'm about to attack had a fanged smiley face drawn on her bandage. Sometimes I just can't stop myself. And here's a more recent, less good picture that I took myself. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/ShikyoKasu/Picture025.jpg And...just for kicks, this is my friend and I as Tweedledee and Tweedledum (respectively, although it doesn't make that much of a difference) in our school's production of Alice in Wonderland. http://a488.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/10/l_f327b8e7fdd28f29b1975f282d617bc7.jpg Yeeeeeaaaah. I can't help but love this thread.
23. Pretty much the only episode of the Simpsons I have seen/remember is the parody of the Raven. I first saw it on Halloween in sixth grade in my language arts class. Then we watched it on Halloween in seventh grade in languages arts. Then on Halloween in eighth grade language arts. Then on Halloween in ninth grade creative writing. Needless to say I am absolutely sick of that episode. >:/ I don't really want to write off the entire series because of that episode alone, but The Simpsons never really interested me. Everyone would talk about it when I was in middle school, and I think I did want to watch it at some point just so I could have something in common with everyone else. My parents wouldn't let me watch it though, so I'm pretty sure I never really got around to ever seeing it. I absolutely adore Futurama, though.
24. I know there was a thread for this a little over a year ago, but I think this is one of those subjects that could use a new one. I'll understand if any mods think differently, though. I just know my own opinion changed since then, so I bet others will have as well. So, talk about tattoos. If you have any, what are they? If you want any, what do you want? If you're against them, why? I'm only turning 16 next month, so I don't have any yet. However, I do love looking at them, and I do have an idea or two as to what I think I'd like as one. Basically, I'd like a dead/dying tree on my forearm (palms up) with the number 337 carved into the trunk. I adore winter imagery and the dead tree is pretty much my favorite piece of nature (I still have a Connecticut quarter with one on the back, and I refuse to use it). That number is my favorite number as well, for pretty much only aesthetic reasons. It's the numerical version of "cellar door" in my opinion--the prettiest number. I'm not sure why I think this, really. That's pretty much my most detailed idea at the moment. I'm horrible at designing things. I'm also allergic to a whole lot of things, so I'm afraid I'd be allergic to the ink. :[ There is one other tattoo I'm thinking about, one I would share with the vocalist in my band. It would be a small heart with a black flame inside it, and the letters "DF" below it. I haven't considered the finer nuances of it, but it's simple enough. The meaning behind it is that the two of us are in the Despair Faction, and we will be for life. We might as well show that somehow. :] Okay, talk.
25. Haha, pretty much all I watch on YouTube are AFI videos and people explaining how awesome their Marshall guitar amps and Les Paul Studios are. And then I'm sad that I don't have any. Anyway. I do think this video is cute. Natalie Dee: Pretending If anyone is familiar with her website you know how random and weird her comedy is. I think she's funny, though. :] And I just have to. Davey Havok and Jeffree Star: Eyelashes Saved Our Lives Pardon me whilst I giggle in giddy fangirlishness. Lolz. I love that video so much because it's pretty much my two favorite male(ish) pseudo-celebrities. They remind me of my friend and I.
