Writing The Otaku Prose Contest Round 1.3 (Anomaly VS. Lrb)
Ellerby replied to Mykul's topic in Creative Works

"Maybe Make Believe" Erin Macdonald, an adventurous young boy with very little imagination, stood at the entrance of an extremely large and intimidating abandoned house. The front door slammed behind him and the cruel snickering of his friends outside followed. Erin gulped and took a deep breath. All he had to do was find the back door where his friends would be waiting for him and get out. Then all their Warrior Knight toys would be his for the keeping. He turned on the miniature flashlight duct taped to his super soaker and pumped twice. If anything unexpected should happen, he was ready. Though he really didn't think anything would happen. Erin didn't for one second believe in the old folk tale of the Kid-Cat Turner who supposedly ate naughty children and turned them into cats forever trapping them in his house for all nine of their lives. His parents had taught him better than to believe in silly ghost stories and just warned him not to go near the house as it was old and could fall apart over top of him at any moment. Finding the back door was a breeze. A few of the rooms he ventured through were dark and creepy looking, and he may have accidentally soaked a spider or two, but it wasn't anything Erin couldn't handle. There certainly were a lot of cats though, so he could see where the legend got its start from. However they didn't bother him so he didn't bother them. He stepped up to the back door and began to turn the doorknob. He turned it all the way around and pushed against it but the door didn't open. It wasn't locked so he put all his strength into his next effort but it still didn't budge an inch. A loud chorus of laughter echoed from outside and Erin clenched his teeth in frustration. He knew his friends would try something dumb like this. As he turned back towards the main hall his heart skipped a beat when he heard a loud bang directly beneath him. Shortly following it was the angry hissing of a few cats so he just sighed, ignored it and continued his trek back to the front door. As Erin stepped outside onto the front porch, he heard the high pitched mewing of every single feline in the house. They were so loud and irritating that he had to cover his ears and run off the property. Not seeing his friends anywhere, Erin assumed they'd fled home to hide their Warrior Knights so he walked home thinking up a plan to get his rightfully earned toys from them. The next day at school neither of his friends showed up for class. When he got home, his parents worriedly asked him when he had last seen them and what had happened the night before but he failed to produce any plausible explanation for them so they just told him to go and play in his room for a bit. Sitting on his bed, Erin began to think about what had happened. The crazy cats, the loud crash from the basement and his missing friends all seemed to support the Kid-Cat Turner legend but he quickly disregarded it. He was sure they'd show up at school tomorrow telling him it was all a big prank. Erin knew better than to believe in silly ghost stories.
-

O rly? That resolve didn't last long. And since I don't want to see this thread derailed by something that can and should, if people want to get off on it, go in a seperate thread I'll move along.
Ironically in writing that last short thought about weed and alcohol I thought of that and I also wondered how long it would be before you commented on it. :p I thought my splurge about alcohol at least made up for my tiny out of context comment. :animecry: I even considered making another weed thread but I didn't want it to be about the legalization and I figured all the pot-haters would turn it into that, anyway. >_

Guh, I always get a little irritated when people start talking alcohol. It should be illegal considering something else is even though it's not as bad for you as alcy, but I won't go into that. I enjoy beer and wine the most (not together, of course). I find they provide two very different kinds of drunks. Wine gives me that social drunk where my friends and I just start talking our heads of about anything and everything that comes to mind while Beer provides you with the physical drunk of wanting to go outside and run 50 laps or something. I enjoy both a lot. As for taste... Beer and Wine again, haha. Beer has that sweet and foamy taste that, in my opinion, tastes much better than any non-alcoholic beverage I've ever had while Wine just makes you feel classy and is the kind of drink you have at a turkey dinner with your fam-jam. :animesmil Some of the silliest things I've done drunk are talking my friends ears off for an hour, making a "video" with a friend that is actually quite hilarious but not in the way we intended, and... other stuff which I just don't remember. xD All these bad things seem to happen to people who get drunk and yet when my friends and I get together and just smoke up a bit we end up watching a movie to be amazed by the explosions or have an intellectual debate about a serious topic. But WEED still remains to be the ILLEGAL (yet completely harmless) substance and ALCOHOL is LEGAL. WTF.
Don't listen to Lrb. World of Warcraft is crafted by Satan himself.
But we all know Satan makes the best games. Go play Bible Adventures if you want but I'll stick to Diablo and WoW. :smirk:

As far as free MMOs go there isn't much choice out there. That's like asking for a free fighting game, you're going to have to give up some money for quality. If you're not willing to spend a lot of money but want a solid PvP experience go with Guild Wars. Besides buying the game (which I imagine is pretty cheap now) you never have to pay a dime where as most MMOs ask you to pay a monthly fee. If you want the best MMORPG PvP experience, and I'm going to be shot for this by some, then get World of Warcraft. You've heard of it, I play it, people love it, others hate it, it's a great game. You can get the battlechest for $36.99 these days which comes with the game and the first expansion (which will last you a long time, I still haven't bought Wrath of the Lich King). The first month is free so you can test the waters before you're ready to dive in. And while the PvP experience is unmatched it's also a lot more than that~! You can download the trial here. You really get your moneys worth, especially because if you play WoW you really don't have to buy/play another game again. It's saved me quite a bit of money in that sense. :animesmil

I'm glad there's already a thread about this because I saw this movie yesterday and I have to talk about it. :animestun To start, visually this was the one of the best movies I've ever seen. It surpasses all my other favourite visually driven films such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen. Now, I did see it in REAL-D which is the only way to see this if you're planning on going to the silver screen. It's worth an extra 20 minute drive if you have to (and an extra 5 bucks for the ticket). So visually the movie was a masterpiece, and I have to say that part of that is because all the music matched what was on screen perfectly. The soundtrack was thrilling to listen to as the movie progressed and it really did it's job. Don't believe me? Listen to the end credits. And of course all of this was tied together with an excellent story suitable for older children and brilliant casting. Keith David? Awesome. So if you were thinking about seeing this then go NOW and see it in 3D.

When day becomes night, everything can change.
Across the world, people look into the sky as a dark shape moves to obscure the sun. A simple cosmic movement, but one which brings the Moon into position between the Earth and the Sun, casting darkness across the the planet. Hand in hand with that darkness come a great many changes. In Kansas, a teenage girl moves with such speed, blocking her drunken stepfather's fist mere millimetres from her face. He looks at her, his fat, gleeful face falling as he sees the sly grin that creeps across hers. In Mumbai, a school burns to the ground as a young man finally sees the revenge he wished on his teachers fulfilled. Manic joy fills his eyes, a single fireball flickering between his fingers as he walks calmly away, noticing the approaching sound of sirens. In Hong Kong, a boy jumps from the edge of a building, ready to end it all, only to find himself floating on the very air itself. He smiles, his love of life restored, and flies high into the darkened sky. In London, a father cries with happiness as his terminally-ill daughter awakens from her coma, healed at his very touch. He embraces her as tears stream down from his eyes onto her hair. And in Hartsdale, New York, there are those who wait in the shadows for all of these people... "It's happening," says one man to the others surrounding him, "Now, find them."

Chapter Index Here's what's happening. The first three chapters I will start with a brief description of what it will encompass. After the first three chapters I'll leave it open to anyone to start the 4th and so on, this is just to get the ball rolling. Basically this is a few years after the creation of the company. We will not be interacting with any characters from the show quite yet, only the people who work for them. The following takes place before the company decides to have a "front" named Primatech so their HQ is just an unnamed office building. CHAPTER 1: "Miscalculation" In the following chapter heroes and villains alike are contacted by the company and taken to their base of operations (willfully or by force). Remember when posting that this is the early stages of the company and they are a little sloppy in what they are doing. Villains if you do get taken in you will be placed in cells but they are very easy to break out of. Save that for chapter 2. CHAPTER 2: "Uprising" Certain characters are drawn to each other due to similar views on the company and attempt to overthrow them. The line between hero and villain is blurred here as they plan to take down the company. CHAPTER 3: "Downfall" In this chapter, everything is put into action. By the end the company building will have been destroyed, lives will have been taken and sides will be picked. Wether you decide to stay lawful, neutral or evil is up to you. If you are helping the company, you will spend this chapter defending the HQ and later escaping with your life. If you are planning on taking down the company, you will be in control of this chapter for the most part. It will end with the building burning in flames and every returning to their "normal" lives. Ask questions in the underground!

Chapter 1

"Miscalculation"

Izzie Hasier lounged lazily in his favourite black arm chair in front of his home computer. He was home alone for the weekend so his two dogs and cat kept him company in his room. He was thinking about what had taken place a few weeks ago. Following a particularly irregular eclipse, Izzie had discovered an uncanny resistance to the freezing Canadian snow. He opened his window and grabbed a handful of snow with his bare hand from the sill. Watching it melt into his hand, no sign of frostbite appeared and there was absolutely no pain. Izzie had gone to the doctor the other day to make sure he was alright. An hour prior to the appointment, Izzie had sat nearly naked in the snow for 20 minutes. The doctor was oblivious and said Izzie was "as healthy as a horse." And so from that point on Izzie decided it was best to keep this resistance to snow a secret. But to Izzie's eventual surprise he was not the only one who knew of his extraordinary power. Just outside his house a black SUV pulled into the long driveway of his suburb home. The doorbell rang. Izzie peaked through the peep hole and saw two tall men in black trenchcoats. One seemed friendly while the one in the back seemed to be more of a bodyguard. Izzie didn't open the door. They knocked again. "We know you're in there. Please open up." the man said. Izzie hesitated but opened the door. "Yes?" he said shyly. "Izzie Hasier? You're coming with us." the man that was in the back placed his hand on Izzie's forehead causing him to instantly black out.
I Forgot What You People Look Like (Image Heavy)

Darren, cigarettes? Really? :( For shame. Here's me with one of my cousins and one of my second-cousins (big family, I'm the youngest of the cousins). And here's another on stage in Toronto playing with the band. I'm the head popping up from behind the drums, lol. And those are all for now. I really need to take some more recent pictures. -
This is great!~ xD If you were aiming for DW's humour you've nearly nailed it with a flare of your own. It's surprising how much slapstick you've managed to fit in, which is nice. All in all it was very funny, especially chibi-master bursting through the window at the end of the first chapter. Write more! But maybe make the next chapter a little bit longer?

Wow, cool thread! This is a really tough choice because there really are so many[i/] great game universes out there. For now I'll have to say World of Warcraft. Not only could you be any sort of race or class you wanted, but it would just be damn fun to play in. Yes I am currently obsessed with the game so I'm probably a little biased but I bet even those of you who have never touched the game wouldn't turn down the opportunity to be a Druid and shape shift into a cheetah! Also Mario Kart was a good suggestion whoever said that. I'd love to be in that franchise.

It was very hard to choose between Kimmeh and Boo. Kimmeh's is graphically stunning (I liked how you represented America through Captain America as that was pretty clever) but Boo's better represents the theme. I've decided to go with Boo because I rather like the pixel-art style and only in America can you die from too much patriotism. :animesmil Haku, I liked yours too, don't get me wrong. I do think it could have been better, though. For one I'm pretty sick of seeing Obama's face everywhere (even in Canada he's everywhere!) so I took points off for that. I also think your banner would have benefited from a nice border and a little less pictures overlapping. Other than that it was great! So my vote goes to Boo.

Or what I mean to say is what's in your pant pockets at this time? If you are wearing pants without pockets or aren't wearing any pants at all please go find a pair and empty its contents. A detailed description of each item and why its in your pants, please. I've got a few pens from work (I work at a movie theater so I'm constantly writing things down), my cellular and my wallet (self-explanatory). I've also got a notepad which I've been using a lot for various reasons. I've found its just extremely useful to have a notepad handy at all times. I've been drawing in it, writing lyrics, writing stories, ideas for threads, not to mention little details I need to remember and *ahem* phone numbers. So, whats in your pants? :smirk: gogosexualinnuendos

As you bring it closer to your eyes to examine the ring suddenly pulls away from your hand and floats mid air while a bright green light scans your retinas. When we're talking a theme song I imagine something really catchy and over the top in all the best ways. I would think I'd hear my theme song once a day, when I wake up. Kind of like the beginning of my episode, lol. I'm going with YYZ by Rush mainly for its variety but also because it has no vocals. Take a listen if you like.
