Originally posted by wrist cutter Just give it up man. We're never going to win. "Dominant sex" my ***, they've got us by the balls.
Hahahaha ... best line ever. wrist cutter, that one line made me want you as a buddy. ;) Anyway. I'm a girl, and I'm not particularly feminist, though I do sometimes get mad when people say that girls can't do the same things guys can. Then I realize that I say guys can't do things that girls can all the time ... I haven't really tried and reasoned that out (I'm unreasonable, hehe), but I guess I believe that the sexes were not really created equal. Note that saying they weren't created equal isn't the same as saying they shouldn't be treated equally -- of course they should. Plus, I do not think that one is better than the other. They're just ... different.
Originally posted by Jubei Yagyou they were saying stuff like boys are stupid and stuff.
Not to insult you Jubei, but I seriously doubt that the Discovery Channel would ever say something like that, as I'm sure they have at least a couple of males on their production staff who would complain, not to mention tons of viewers who would write in. There are studies and stuff suggesting that the sexes have different inherent intelligences, which may be what Discovery was covering. But, I don't think that really matters in the end. There are girls that are really smart, and there are guys that are really smart -- generalizations about each entire sex seems a little pointless. (All of the above is, of course, just my opinion ...)

Yeah, tonight's was pretty cool. The girl (the one who rigged the voting, I have no idea what any of their names are and I'm too lazy to look it up) was pretty hot. ... I'm a straight girl, I'm still entitled to opinion. Anyway, I wanted to pet his ears so badly!!! They were so cute and fuzzy!! *fuzz fuzz* Oh right ... actual comments on the show. What can I say? Even more than the two previous episodes, tonight's visuals hit me over the head (like an electric guitar?), and made me forget that the storyline didn't make much sense because it was just beautiful. And I agree Arkadyz, I love the ending music, it's really cool.

Haha ... his arm sure grew a couple of times in there. But hey we're watching for the comedy, not the realism. I think there were two too many occurrences of the marsupial ... The first one was hysterical though. And overall I've liked them all, they're just so easy to watch :) Nice job!

Yeah ... it was really weird that the winner won. Really weird. I expected Tess to be a lot funnier than she was, actually. Her routine seemed to depend a lot more on grossness and vulgar humor than I would've expected. I thought Corey was actually really funny, even though I hated her personality throughout the show. I probably would've voted for her if I didn't dislike the way she talked about people, mostly Dat. Although Dat was a weirdo throughout the whole show ... What can I say. I'm curious to see the winner's comedy show ...

In reference to the second episode (last night's): Anyone hear the part where they were kind of dissing his/his brother's girlfriend, and they said, "She's in high school ... It's pathetic at her age"? Did they mean she was really young for h.s., or old? I didn't get it ...

Rydia relaxed as the platoon walked through the mist. It reminded her of her home. Lots of things were doing that nowadays. The rest of the troops didn't seem quite as easy among the gentle white clouds. In fact, most of them seemed to be murmuring complaints that it was a bad omen for their travel. Rydia resisted a laugh; after all, it would look strange for her to be talking to herself. Her pace slowed as she fell to contemplation. The last time she'd seen these lands she'd been on the run, exhausted and nearly starving. But she'd managed, she'd lived the whole long journey from the Civil Grounds. And now she was heading back ... But not alone anymore, with an entire platoon. Rydia looked up and realized that she'd been walking slower than she thought; she was one of the last of the platoon. Far ahead she spotted Arik, chatting (and probably flirting) with some girl; she allowed herself a small smile. At the head of the pack was, of course, Leo, who hadn't quite been able to hide his cute nervousness as he gave a little speech in the morning. Rydia glanced at the blond next to her and started a little bit. He looked incredibly young and innocent to be the sergeant that his badge proclaimed him to be. He was striding along with purpose even though he was nearly last in his line; one hand was on the hilt of his sword as if ready for an attack at any time. He glanced up, feeling her gaze, and smiled. "Hello," he said. Rydia realized she'd been staring and laughed to cover her embarrassment. "Hi," she said. "I'm Rydia." "Clavat Bunel," he returned, lifting his hand off his sword to shake hers. "Nice to meet you." Rydia smiled to herself. She honestly thought he looked like he was about ten. "A chilly mist, isn't it?" Clavat said conversationally. "It should let up pretty soon, though, if we keep walking at this pace." "Oh," Rydia said, unable to keep the disappointment out of her voice. Clavat raised an eyebrow. "You sound sad," he remarked. "Most of the platoon seems eager to get out of it." "It's just mist," Rydia said. "It can't exactly hurt us. It could even help us, allow us to sneak up undetected." "It could also give some cover for a sneak attack on us," Clavat commented. "That's true, I guess," Rydia said. "But we should probably keep up a little optimism." "Yeah. We might need it," Clavat replied.

To quote Strong Bad: They're "like my childrens. I love them all!" Anyway... If I had to pick one or two, I'd probably go with Rydia from FFII/4. I always had a spot soft for her, because she was incredibly useful, pretty, and got to hang out with the monsters when they attacked everybody else. I also really liked Celes from FFIII/6, because she had that half-infused Esper, tool-of-the-enemy problem, but without the major emotional complex that Terra got from it. She was much more matter-of-fact about it than Terra, and took it like a woman -- no late-night whining for her ;) But I don't feel the emotional connection that some of the other repliers seem to have felt ... They're more just cool game characters to me.

Crystal opened her eyes, then got up, a little slow. Her headset was useless, broken from the fall, so she threw it into the dirt. Hm, left wrist. Broken? Probably not. Sprained, perhaps. She picked up her crossbow from where she'd dropped it from the force of the explosion and took flight through the forest towards their emergency evacuation exit. Soon, she reached a clearing in the center of the dwelling. There, a hole had been dug straight through the floating island as an escape route if the island, by some off chance, was ever surrounded. The dome that usually covered it had been retracted. The perimeter was being held by a few guards, but the place wasn't buzzing with quite the chaotic desperation Crystal had expected. Crystal spotted Sharpie just next to the exit and landed next to him. "What's going on?" she said. "Where the hell were you?" he barked. "If you'd gotten here earlier you would've been able to help out. Why didn't you leave right when you got the order?" Crystal tried to look innocent. "Help out with what?" she asked. "There were some arguments," Sharpie said. "Seems some of the Leaders wanted to leave, some wanted to defend the island. Where's your damn headset? What the hell happened to your wrist?" "Easy on the cursing, Sharpie, it's not good for the kids," Crystal said, though she could've answered all his questions with one response. "So what's happened?" "Some of the guards attacked in squadrons, with ukso," Sharpie said. "Others of us stayed here as a last line of defense, and prepared for evacuation. The attack seems to have panned out pretty well, though. We've commandeered most or all of the human ships now. You'd know this stuff if you had your freaking headset on, Crystal." "Anything else I should know?" "Yeah, we've just been informed by some Senser from the ground that humans are approaching the caves as well, but there's really nothing we can do about that at the moment, is there?" Sharpie snorted. Crystal raised her eyebrows. "Well, you said things are looking fine here ..." "Crystal, no," Sharpie said immediately. "You can't go down there unless you have orders!" Crystal sighed, cast her eyes to the heavens, and debated for a few moments. "Sorry, Sharpie," she said. "Lost my headset. I don't have orders at the moment." One step right took her into the evacuation exit, where she spread her wings. She glided downward quickly, the exit being designed for easy but fast aerodynamics, and headed for the clone caves.

Yes, there's only six episodes in the series, though they're airing it twice. And I may watch it twice because it is so ... darn ... weird. Apparently there's like ... some hidden surrealist point to all of the madness, but I don't know ... For now I'm just watching it for amusement's sake, since it's pretty funny. And occasionally saying aloud, "The Japanese are so darn weird ..." (Disclaimer: Mm ... I'm not racist ... those specific Japanese involved in the creation of FLCL.)

Mankind does not exist only on one plane, on one planet; it is spread throughout the universe in different existences, each creating their own histories and living their own futures. Many of these different worlds of humans have been in danger of complete collapse. Most of these worlds were thankfully saved from that apocalypse, over a host of different times, by a varying cast of characters. When those rescuers returned to their hometowns, they were heralded by their respective worlds as heroes, and received gifts and thanks from the rich and poor alike. Among the hundreds of gifts, a few of those heroes have received certain weapons enriched with a palpable power, and with it only this tag: A weapon worthy of you, Warrior. Though each recipient puzzled over the mysterious tag, they also recognized the inherent strength of the weapons they received. Thus, though they couldn't quite be sure who the weapon was from, each hero decided to keep the amazing weapon ... In a different time, in a different world, those weapons are now being recalled by their sender. Each hero arrives confused, disoriented from travel far through space and time. A mysterious man gathers them all together, and his speech to them begins, "A new evil has come ... far beyond what you've faced in the past. And it will require the force of all of you combined to stop it." -------- This is an RPG for the crossover of characters from Final Fantasy and Chrono RPG video games, because I like them, and you know, [sarcasm]there aren't enough FF RPG's on the boards already[/sarcasm]. The "heroes" who have received the weapons are meant to be anyone you can play as during the games. I'd like to encourage the earlier FF games, since they're classics and I miss them (hehe), but the later ones are open as well. So, if you liked the games and ever wished you could be a character from one of them ... here is your chance. Feel free to join if you haven't played these games, though you may want to check out GameFAQs or Final Fantasy Insider for an idea of what the games are like. I've listed most of the games and characters for your easier reference: (The FF's are American release numbers, except for V. Yeah, my FF listing got a little confused, sorry ...) FF II (or 4) : Cecil - Cid - Edge - Edward - FuSoYa - Kain - Palom - Porom - Rosa - Rydia - Tellah - Yang FF III (or 6) : Terra - Locke - Edgar - Sabin - Celes - Shadow - Cyan - Gau - Setzer - Mog - Strago - Relm - Umaro - Gogo FF V : I've never played this and would prefer you picked a different game's characters, but you can still choose these characters. FF VII : Cloud - Tifa - Barret - Aeris - Cid - Red XIII - Cait Sith - Yuffie - Vincent - Sephiroth (?) FF VIII : Same as FFV. FF IX : Zidane - Garnet/Dagger - Vivi - Steiner - Freya - Quina - Eiko - Amarant FF X : Same as FFV and FFVIII. (I know, I'll play them all soon.) Chrono Trigger: Crono - Marle - Lucca - Frog - Ayla - Robo - Magus Chrono Cross: Serge - Kid - Glenn - Karsh - Radius - Nikki - Riddel -
Lynx - Harle
(Since there are freaking 44 playable characters, I picked my favorites rather than naming them all, but as above, you can really be anyone you want.) Basics: The basic storyline should end up being something like a normal FF/Chrono RPG (go find evil, destroy it to save the world). It'll be in a sort of futuristic medieval setting ... that may not make total sense, so I want you guys to make it up as we go along :). I'll direct the storyline a bit if I and others involved feel like it's going nowhere, but I'm not against random adventuring into the wilds, or splitting up, or whatever, like in a normal video game. I'd also like to see how the personalities of the characters would interact, so random love stories could pop up, interesting jealousies or rivalries -- play with it. On signups: I would like to have people with grammar and spelling skills, but the amount of screening I'll do depends on how many people sign up. Post quality (as always on these godforsaken boards ;)) is a must, so I still reserve the right to reject people if I deem it necessary. I'll probably read some of your past RPG posts if you have them, and if you don't I may ask you for a writing sample by PM. If you're still reading and would like to sign up ... Signup: Name: Age: Believable within the ending of that character's game, please. Sex: History: Please write a brief history of who that character is for anyone who hasn't played the game. It doesn't have to be long, but enough so that I don't have to have played the game to know who you are. For example, for Rydia from FFII you might write, ?A summoner rescued from her village when she was a child, who matured in her abilities and helped save the world.? Be sure to let us know the character's strengths (battle, magic, summoning, etc.) If you haven't played the game(s), please go look up your character's background. Description: Personality-wise, can again be pretty short. Weapon: Normal one according to your character. Special Weapon: In the storyline above, you got a special weapon and that's why you're in this RPG. Pick one that fits with the kind of weapon your character uses, and give it a cool name. Appearance: You can post a picture. What you've played: Out of the games above. No effect on your signup, just to satisfy my own curiostiy :). My signup and a list of players will come later. If you have any additional questions, please PM me. Meh, let's see how this works out ...

Sounds cool. Can you tell me a bit more about dragons here? For one thing, they can fly too, right? Just general details would be great :). (You can PM me the answers if you'd like.) Dragon Rider Name: Nova Giancos Gender: F Age: 23 Description: Long black hair that she usually wears tied back. Thin, medium height, dark piercing eyes. I went to music camp once in high school (few years ago now) and have fond memories of it. Anyone been to NEMC? (It's a four-week camp ... I think ... I forget.) Anyway, it was actually the most outdoorsy summer I had, contrary to what I expected. It was totally like, log cabins and you have to do at least two physical activities, and stuff like that. I met a couple of wonderful friends there ... who pretty much fell out of touch, but at least we had that summer, heh. Oh right, and there was a lot of music involved. But I refuse to call it band camp, due of course to American Pie. I play the flute though ... hm ... leaving now.

I think I began a post like this for you and then decided not to post it ... Anyway. Just wanted to say I really love the style of all the stuff you've posted in this forum, have been looking at it for some time now but haven't posted because I'm lazy :p. It's all very light and pretty, and has almost a dreamy feel to me (at least on my monitor, ... sometimes my monitor does show things extra-light though ...) In this particular picture the sock of her foot on the right looks a little weird, right by the shoe. It looks kind of like when your shoes are a little too small for your socks and your socks puff out of it ... do you know what I'm talking about ..? Well, if that's what you were going for, you got it, hehe. But awesome work, I'm an admirer :)

I sometimes save fortunes when they amuse me, and stick them on my wall. The most recent one I've saved was this (I think I only find it amusing because I'm a stickler for grammar): "You emerge victorious from the maze you've been traveling in." ... I felt like I was in a Choose Your Own Adventure book and had just chosen the right option. Anyone? No? All right then. No, I don't take them seriously. Although I did also save the one that said "You will meet the love of your life today." I'm pretty sure I didn't meet anyone new that day.

I've seen the whole series and I think it currently tops my favorite anime list (although I've still got tons to watch, hehe). I loved the feel of it, it was rather cutesy but (I thought, at least) still had a deeper meaning. Plus, it was really funny; I love the style of having them become chibis when they're embarrassed or something. And there was a ton of eye candy (almost too much at times, they should've cut down on the character list). Right, I could go on like this forever ...

What'd you guys think of the episode that aired last night? (although Yami*Maho already started talking about it :)). Actually I didn't understand the whole
tomato thing
, thought that was the weirdest part of the whole episode. I didn't really like the way they did the whole
long flashback/introspection thing. I definitely like the idea of Roger facing whatever he's gotta face and don't mind introspection episodes in general. But it was rather disrupting to have twenty minutes worth of his thought in the middle of a fight scene. I thought I'd be getting more fighting, less introspection, so wasn't quite prepared for how slow the episode was. But whatever, I still thought it was a good episode. The part in the theater, where Roger and the butler were overacting, was really amusing.
EDIT: oops. There's another more specific Big O thread that's currently discussing the latest episode ... torn ... not sure where to post ... will leave this here for now.

Crystal was half paying attention to what the parachuters were saying when she heard it. The others heard it, too, as evidenced by the tiny refocusing of their sight that towards the planes that were still hovering near the little pow-wow of two humans and dozens of clones. The classically styled planes, which looked like they held nothing worse than a couple of machine guns, were transforming. Side panels were folding back, and something else was emerging ... some kind of weapon that Crystal didn't even recognize. Perhaps some type of rocket launchers ... What do they think we are? an angry voice came through Crystal's headset, which she'd almost forgotten she'd been wearing. She recognized it as the head of the Bird Dwelling, who was near the front line. God, we have the best sight on the planet ... they think they can get this by us? Begin evacuation procedures immediately. We're going to keep talking to them, try and delay them for as long as we can here. In event of an emergency, Crystal and most of the other guards had been assigned evacuation duty, and she knew it. But she couldn't tear herself away from the scene, though several of her peers fluttered silently away to help with the evacuation. Looking beyond the parachuters, past the evolving planes, Crystal saw several other ships approaching, breaking formation -- to surround the island. They were being surrounded, attacked, systematically killed. Startled, Crystal looked back down and realized the bird-clones nearby were scattering. The reason was obvious -- the new weapons had finished loading themselves onto the planes, and they were preparing to fire. The human parachuters who'd been on the island had shrugged off their deployed parachutes while they were talking, and were now running toward the edge of the island, presumably to jump off before the others fired on the island. Crystal shouldered her crossbow again, ignoring the danger and feeling only the anger that rushed through her. She took careful aim and had the satisfaction of seeing her arrows shoot right through each parachuter, just before the weapons fired and the resulting explosion blew her out of the tree.
-
Crystal pumped her wings strongly to regain her altitude, then angled herself with the wind current and glided back over the Bird Dwelling. She flew through the territory quickly, not taking her customary time to admire the lush surroundings, which looked particularly beautiful in the morning sun. The device protecting them had "malfunctioned"? What the hell was that supposed to mean? What was that device, anyway ... and why would it have malfunctioned? The place was hushed, most of the inhabitants still in a drowsy sleep. Crystal crossed the island speedily, and directed her flight to where she could see other several other bird-clones gathered, including some other members of the guard. She fluttered a landing onto a tree branch near the front. Though her feet looked like normal human feet rather than talons, she was still quite comfortable balancing on branches and narrow posts, clutching them with her feet. Crystal realized she'd landed next to her friend Sharpie, nicknamed thus for his razor-sharp beak ... which could leave quite a permanent mark. Dozens of bird-clones crowded the trees, directing the sharpest eyes on the planet towards the approaching planes. The intimidating machine guns and other arms on the planes lay conspicuously silent ... for now. "What's going on?" she said in a hushed whisper to Sharpie. "They'll want you higher, among the leaves, hidden," Sharpie said, in the same quiet tone. Something about the situation just precluded normal conversation. "So that you can watch with your crossbow ready, but they won't know you're there. Some others with projectile weapons are above, too. We don't know what they're planning." Crystal nodded and, with some exertion of her wings, reached a higher branch. Her vantage point was unobstructed, but she was confident that the thick leaves of the tree hid her from sight. A soft shudder ran through the nearby clones as one plane dropped off two parachuters, who slowly floated down to the grass of the Bird Dwelling, surrounded by steely bird-clones. Their hands were outstretched and empty, though they carried huge firearms on their backs. "Hello," one of them said loudly, over-enunciating the word. "We're not here to attack you." Then who are you here to attack? Crystal thought to herself grimly, and pulled her crossbow from her back. Just in case.

These are great stories. Once, my aunt left a can of Sprite out for maybe half an hour while we were talking about other things. She then drank some later and got this very odd look on her face. She spit out the contents of her mouth ... Sprite ... and ants. Ants had been crawling in for some time and they were all drowning in the soda. I find it very impressive how ants can crawl up the slickest of surfaces.

Nighttime had fallen some time ago, but Christian hadn't noticed. He checked his watch -- 10:30PM. Convenient. The police files he'd easily hacked into had informed him that one Benjamin Harbor, who'd stopped a Ms. Lydia Folcroft that day on a charge for going 39 miles per hour over the speed limit, would be on beat a few blocks away from 11PM-2AM. Christian decided to walk, spare the environment a little. When he could do such small things, he would. He was thoughtful in that way. Peering casually from around a typical dark alley, he saw Harbor, easily recognizable from his file's photo, and a couple of other cops, standing around a car eating -- donuts. Christian rolled his eyes. Why did policemen complain about their donut-eating stereotype, then go buy a dozen Krispy Kremes and scarf them down while on duty? People just didn't think. The policemen separated eventually, bidding each other laughing goodbyes, and Harbor set off down the street towards Christian's convenient alley. As he passed by, Christian stepped out, neatly elbowing Harbor in the gut and causing him to grunt and bend over double. Harbor moved as if to come up swinging, but Christian preempted him by slamming his elbow down into the back of Harbor's neck, causing him to slump onto the floor. Christian leaned over and plucked the policeman's gun from his holster, then punched him full in the face before he had a chance to call for help. Harbor fell backward but caught himself on his knees. Christian cocked Harbor's gun and pointed it at his forehead. "Don't say a word," he said calmly. They were still out on the street, but Christian didn't care. It was empty, anyway, except for the subtle fog that always seemed to hover over the city. "Wh-- why," Benjamin Harbor whispered, sweating, staring at the barrel of his own gun. "You should know that Ms. Folcroft is above such things as speeding tickets," Christian elucidated for him simply. Harbor's eyes widened. "Is that -- that's the only reason?" he said in the same hoarse tone. "No," Christian smiled. "It's also because I can." He fired.

And when you say Sigma Fi Omega is suspected, are they going to be the ones who actually are the kidnappers? It sounds like it'd be tough to RPG a mystery without knowing the ending ... :p

Crystal was stretching her wings in preparation to leave her guard post when the intercom system for guard communication began to beep. "Yes?" she said into it. "Be informed that humans are approaching the other side of the island." Crystal looked around to see if someone was spying on her, waiting to laugh. "Is this some kind of practical joke?" she said. "I don't have time for this." "This is real," the voice came smoothly over the line, hiding an underlying urgency. "The device hiding this island from sight appears to have malfunctioned. Please take flight beyond the island and watch for incoming humans. Thank you." Still in a state of only half-belief, Crystal spread her wings and swooped out past the island. She'd done this only once before in her life, and she'd been thoroughly chastized for it -- beyond the perimeter of the floating island, her mother had hissed, you are visible. Out of curiosity, Crystal glanced over her shoulder back at the island and dropped several feet in the air from surprise. The island was visible; she'd never seen it from a distance before. Suddenly the surrealness of the situation clicked into reality. They could be seen. From a small distance behind, she dimly heard the crackle of the intercom as it clicked on. "Crystal, other lookouts are being sent your way to watch for attack. You are instead required on the front line, where the humans approach. Please abandon your post and fly to the other side of the island as quickly as possible." ----- EDIT: (having seen Ben's post) Thanks, was wondering that! Do you mean the troops are going to stay on the island so that the birds can't help the cave-dwelling clones ...?
