Christian looked around, stunned. Everything had frozen. Ken was caught shoving his gunblade towards the demon, who had been walking steadily toward him when Destiny kissed him and stopped time. The demon had his hand raised, about to slam Ken in the head. Destiny was the only other thing moving, and she looked exhausted, leaning on her staff for support. Realizing how much this was tiring her, Christian ran forward and grabbed Ken's gunblade. "Hope you don't mind if I borrow this," he said unnecessarily as he raised his hands to the sky. Jolts of electricity from the much-abused power line began to shoot down, gathering in a bright white ball above his head. "TENJO NO RAI-KEN!" Christian shouted, and the electricity zoomed down and was quickly absorbed by the gunblade, and by Christian. He felt his entire body light up with the power of the electricity, and he smiled. He plunged Ken's weapon into the demon and pulled the trigger as he'd seen Ken do just before. Just then, Destiny's strength gave out, and the demon's fist began to fall towards Ken as time clicked back into place. But it was too late. Power shot through Christian, through the gunblade, and blasted the demon apart, leaving only wisps of black smoke where he had just been standing. Ken looked around, puzzled. "What the -- what just happened? What the heck are you doing with my gunblade?!" Christian scratched his head apologetically and handed it back to him. "Sorry," he said. "If it makes you feel any better, I used your move. It was like a tribute to you." He turned to Destiny. "Are you all right?" he asked, concerned. "That must have taken a lot out of you ..." She pointed at the ground next to him where the demon had been standing. "Look ..." The two blue spheres that had been the demon's eyes were lying on the street. Christian grimaced. "We should probably take them and see if we can figure out what's going on," he said. "Maybe we should go back to David's and see how Arika and the others are doing." Ken knelt to pick up the spheres, and he shuddered. "They're freezing," he said. "Worse than that. They feel ... they just feel wrong." "Come on, let's go," Christian said, and walked over to Destiny. He said to her in a low voice, "I know you're tired, you don't have to hide it. What you did was amazing. Just put your arm around me, I'll help you walk." After slight hesitation, Destiny did so, and the three started off again. Under his breath, Christian said, "So, about that kiss ..." "It was necessary," Destiny said primly. Then she smacked him on the back of his head for good measure. Christian grinned.

OOC: Nefertimon, I believe David is busy in the shadow realm stealing a tape. There are others who could've talked to you, though. Sorry this post is so freaking long! ... ----- Christian sighed. "Demons on the loose, gigantic hawks and beetles attacking, not to mention that sea monster ..." he said grimly. "The evil's getting stronger, whatever it is." "So what are we going to do about it?" Ken asked. Christian shrugged. "Well, Arika will probably kill us, but I say we go searching for answers." "Just parade the city looking for evil, is that your plan?" Destiny said. "Sure, why not?" he said. Destiny and Ken exchanged skeptical glances, but agreed. The three of them started walking. It was dark out, and the streets were empty, but the shadows of the city caused illusions of monsters that weren't there. Dumpsters looked like lurking beasts, trees turned into hairy creatures, and power lines looked like they might be hiding birds of prey. Remembering the hawks and beetles they'd fought off didn't help. Swallowing his fear, Christian kept scanning the area, knowing he was searching for something, but not quite sure what. Christian stopped in his tracks, and Destiny nearly bumped into him. "What the --" she began irritably, but he shushed her. "Look," he said, and pointed ahead of them. A man -- was it a man? It was in the shape of a man, but enveloped in black flames, just like the demon that had attacked Ken. "Is that --" Ken said. "I don't think it's the same demon," Christian said. "Look, he's got a different weapon." The demon turned towards them, as if he'd heard them. Where a normal man's eyes would be, he had two steely blue spheres that looked as if they were floating amongst the flames. Christian and the others stared into the spheres, unable to look away, and unable to think of anything else but those glowing spheres. The demon raised his weapon, which looked something like a crossbow but somehow rippled in the darkness, like the rest of his body was doing. He pointed it at them. They watched as if in a daze, powerless to move. Christian tried to shake himself, suddenly realizing what was going on. Behind him, Ken and Destiny sounded like they were coming back into consciousness, as well. His hands moved slowly, as if he was in water, as he tried to power up and call upon a bolt of electricity. "NO!" he yelled frantically as black darkness shot out of the demon's crossbow, straight at them. His mind pulled the incredible currents of electricity running through the power lines above him, and a sheet of white lightning shot from it to fall just in front of them. The black darkness of the demon's crossbow hit the lightning shield, and hissed as it evaporated. Ken, Christian, and Destiny shook their heads clear. When they'd broken eye contact, they'd been freed of the terrible hypnotic effect of the demon's eyes. Their lightning shield evaporated and left them standing face to face with the demon.

I think the idea is very good, but the background is a little bit confusing. It sort of took some concentration to see each person, and I don't think banners should require too much thought :). Maybe you could lighten Spike's picture or something so that it's easier to see.

Summer is tough ... at least in my opinion. You know, because most of us are probably sitting around all day with nothing to do. And because TV becomes mostly reruns. Accordingly, anyone got any good summer shows that they think are worth watching? I've started watching a couple fun things ... Last Comic Standing, Tuesday nights on NBC. Another Survivor-type show, but with comedians. They all live in a house and are jerks to each other and then people get kicked off. It's pretty funny, although the best part is always when they actually get on stage and do their act :) Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Bravo at ... some time. I have never even heard of the Bravo channel before but this show is pretty good. Basically, five gay guys give one straight guy a makeover. Entertainment ensues. Other recommendations?

Hm, maybe that's the problem. I never enjoyed Halloween very much. Although I do think making the costume and taking pictures as an anime character would be fun, I'd feel a little strange walking around in public like that. Especially as I probably wouldn't end up looking like the character ... But hey, if you like it, more power to ya! And I've heard that people sometimes want to take pictures with cosplayers, which probably gives you that star feeling :)
-
Wow. I really, really like it. The orange squares along the top are a really good idea. Even though they're such a simple thing, they finish out the banner very nicely. The text is also oriented well, and is clear and visible (where it's supposed to be), which is great. Wonderful job. I happen to agree that the character's not too cute, but that's probably not the important thing ;)
-
On conventions ... I've never been to one, and I'm wondering for anyone who cosplays, what the appeal of it is. I'm not putting it down or anything, I would just like to know what you enjoy about it, as I've never done it :).
Originally posted by Kaola Su *EDIT: yeah I did have my belly button done also but I didn't take the piercers seriously about not touching it at all with dirty hands and I was messing with it a lot w/o washing my hands, and eventually it swelled up so much I had to go to the doctor to take it out and get antibiotics for it!!! EWE!
Oh yeah. After like a month I stopped being careful with my navel ring and then it got infected, as well. Or at least I'm pretty sure ... it sort of looked like I had a tumor growing out of the middle of my belly button. It was gross ... I took a digipic for posterity but I'll spare you guys. Anyway, I just washed it like five or six times a day with antibacterial soap and put Neosporin on it for a week in hopes that it would go away. And it did :D I was just avoiding the doctor, hehe. It was probably smarter of you to go.

Maya lay on her bed and stared at the ceiling of her room. Ashtari's handkerchief was still in her hand, but she had stopped crying some time ago. She was still thinking about what she had learned. Her parents ... died in a fire so long ago. And Zumara had known all this time ... Maya shook off the sudden flare of anger. It was no use being mad at Zumara, she had simply been trying to protect her. She didn't need protecting ... she didn't want protecting anymore. With the new knowledge of what had happened to her parents, Maya was suddenly glad that she would be leaving. Not because she wanted to leave Zumara, but because she wanted to do something, not just lie here in bed while other villages might be suffering, like hers had years ago ... Maya jumped out of bed, unable to stay still anymore. She grabbed her bow and quiver of arrows and walked just outside Zumara's cottage, where there was a small target range that she had practiced on ever since she was big enough to handle the weapons. She aimed at the target with her arrows and let go. She continued for several minutes, caught up in the satisfying smack of the arrows into the target. Ashtari: You're not too bad with that thing. Startled, Maya lowered her bow and arrow and realized Ashtari was next to her, watching. Ashtari: No, don't let me stop you. Continue practicing, if you'd like. A little unnerved, Maya kept practicing. At first she was nervous, but after a while, she was able to ignore Ashtari's presence and her aim returned to normal. Ashtari: Nice job. It might even be helpful to have you around on my journeys. Maya took this as a great compliment. Maya: So ... What weapon do you use? Ashtari: Oh, I can pretty much get by with any weapon. Maya: Really? In response, Ashtari took Maya's bow and arrow and aimed at the target. Her expert shot hit the target in the dead center of the bulls-eye. Maya: Wow ... nice job. Um ... so where exactly are we going to be going, when we leave here? Ashtari: Well ... there's my brother Xanthus, we should go pick him up. And I was also planning to help the people of Kalassia. Don't worry, there will be plenty to occupy us once we really get out into the land of Arcadia, and that'll be as soon as Zumara lets us go! Maya smiled at Ashtari's joke. Suddenly, she was excited to leave, although she still knew she'd miss Zumara. It sounded so interesting out there ...
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh I had to take my navel ring out because I was pregnant, but now that my stomach is back to normal, I might put it back in, one of those half-circle diamond ones.
Okay, I heard terror stories about pregnancy + belly button rings = something horrible happening. (Examples ... oh, I don't know, some woman claimed that her belly got so stretched out that the hole grew enormous as well, and stayed that way even when she lost the weight after having the baby.) But most of them sounded sort of improbable so I attributed them to urban legends and got my piercing anyway :) But now I'm fully comforted ... it sounds like you've had a baby and your belly button piercing is still normal. Yay! Load off my back.

OOC: SJchan, in answer to your question: YES. Yes we are. :D Christian was shocked that they'd been on the news, and he paused to examine the footage more closely. "I can't believe we were caught on tape! -- .... Hey, I'm not even IN this fight!!" Destiny shook her head. "You were blacked out on the sand the entire time," she commented. "Man," Christian said, still watching the news report. "You look good, though, Destiny." He plopped down on David's couch. "I guess all we can do for now is wait for the others to get back ..."

"And what are we going to do now?" Talayeh asked, standing up, her tea in hand. Talayeh had been somewhat quiet since Luisa had shapeshifted into Luyii's other form. She had acquiesced to the tea and watched their conversation, but she seemed agitated. "What do you mean?" Luyii asked calmly. "I mean, we've all found each other, and we have these amazing powers. There must be some reason for it," Talayeh said. She was pacing now, her cup of tea cold and still untouched. "Something that requires more than just going to sleep, don't you think?" "What could we do?" Luisa said. "Well, I want to find the others," Talayeh said impatiently. "You said there are others, didn't you? I want to find them. Can't you find them somehow?" she asked Luyii. "I felt your powers, can't you reach out to them, as well?" Luyii shook her head. "You must be patient, Talayeh," she said. "It is nighttime now, and there is no use in going out on a wild goose hunt in the dark. They could be in a different country, a different continent for all I know." "And what is the purpose of all this?" Talayeh continued, as if she hadn't been listening. "Who are we? Why do we have these powers, and what are they for? I want -- I need to know, now!" Luyii stood up at last. "Stop," she said, her voice still calm, but holding a subtle coil of anger. Talayeh looked up at her as if she hadn't realized what she had been doing. "Do you think you are the only one to feel this way?" Luyii said in a low voice. "Do you think you're the only one who wants to act? The time is not now. We do not have our full memories, or our full strength. Be patient." Talayeh sat back down on the couch, feeling something near fear, but not quite so potent. "I'm sorry," she said. "If you want to do something with your time, try discovering your other self," Luyii suggested, her voice still possessing a sliver of venom. "But for now, I am going to bed. We can discuss what to do in the morning." Luyii stalked out of the room. After a moment, Luisa followed Luyii, leaving Talayeh alone.

Hm, I think a Dorothy/Roger relationship would be kind of weird. But I kind of still want it to happen, and as you said, only if it involves the whole android/man love intricacies that I'm sure would be so interesting ... Last night's episode on Adult Swim left the option open :) Anyone have any thoughts on it? I haven't seen the whole series so I'm really curious as to what repercussions Dorothy's question might have ... (If you didn't see it, she said something like
"If you and I hadn't had our memories wiped and we just met somewhere, would we fall in love?" Roger didn't respond.
) Sorry if I butchered that quote. Anyway, I'm curious now! :)

Ouch, collarbone piercing sounds like death!! [shivers] My ears (in the normal place) and belly button are pierced (oddly enough I seem to be the first person in this thread to have a belly button ring). Now whenever I'm lying down I always play with it. 'Tis comforting :). Although the playing with it was a bad idea for a while, because I didn't tell my parents I'd gotten it at first -- I'm over 18 and in college so I figured they didn't really *need* to know, please tell your parents if you're getting a piercing or tatoo and you still live with them ... Anyway, when I went home for Christmas, I kept playing with it and my mom was like, "Er ... if you're trying to hide that piercing, you're doing a horrible job." ... Right ... But they're okay with it. As long as they don't have to see it.

The eternal Question " How the hell do women think?!"
terra replied to a topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by Zidargh But I'm sure women feel the same about men.
Eh, not me. I know how men think. ;) Hm ... [tries to think of something to say besides smart aleck comeback] I mean, really, anything that you want in a significant other, it makes sense to think they'll want in you. So if you want a good sense of humor (which almost everyone does I think), then you'll probably want to go out with someone who also wants a good sense of humor. ... Right. It makes sense. I swear. -
Wow, pretty good, especially for on the computer :) How do you draw such intricate stuff on the computer (as maladjusted already asked)? She is cute ... but the lack of the nose bothers me, personally. Ah, well, your catgirl :)

OOC: Er ... my bad. I guess Wondershot posted and took care of the hawk creatures while I was still typing this up, and I didn't notice until much later. I wondered where the beetles came from :D Sorry! ------ As Destiny took care of one of the hawk creatures, Christian watched Ken slowly getting backed into a corner. Ken used one of his gravity blasts -- Christian was never quite sure how those worked, actually, but they usually worked pretty well. The hawk, however, took the blow and just kept on going. Christian outstretched his hands and a blast of lightning appeared in the sky. "Ken, look out!" Christian yelled, and Ken rolled out of the way. The hawk turned around to see what the noise had been, but the lightning was already shooting down and hit it squarely between the eyes. As the hawk fell back, stunned, Ken darted forward and cleaved its head from its neck cleanly with his blade. "I'm not taking any more chances," Ken said grimly. "These things are bi--" "Um, guys?" Destiny called out from behind them. It was the first time Christian had ever heard her sound even slightly nervous. Somehow the hawk had gotten ahold of her staff, and was biting it in its beak with a fierceness that was making Destiny squirm. The hawk looked like it was enjoying itself -- It raised its head high with the staff in its mouth, ready to pummel Destiny with it. "One big lightning rod, right?" Christian muttered as he powered up again. Another cloud of electricity appeared in the sky and shot straight to the staff, sizzling right through it and electrocuting the giant hawk. It dropped to the ground and the staff rolled out of its beak. Destiny picked it up and examined it. "Well, no harm done," she said, bonking the hawk over the head one last time to see if it was really dead. It was. "I will never forgive that bird." "What now?" Ken asked, looking around at three dead giant hawk bodies, one with its bloody head separated from its body, one exploded into a couple different pieces. "David's house," Christian said. "Apparently we need to get over there quick." "We're just going to leave the bodies?" Ken said. Christian shrugged. "I guess we'll have to," he said, and they started off at a jog. [OOC: Sorry I had it take your staff, SJchan. :D Hope you don't mind! ... too much ... ]

Zumara ushered Ashtari inside and Maya brought out two cups of tea for her elders. They sat in the front room of the house and Ashtari took her cup of tea without a word of thanks. Zumara smiled at the little girl, and she tugged on Zumara's cloak, mutely asking her to step into the other room so they could talk. Zumara looked puzzled, but stood up. "Excuse me for a second, Ashtari," she said, and they went into the other room. The second they were out of earshot, Maya began complaining. "Zumara, do I have to go with her?" she said desperately. Zumara laughed. "Why, Maya, what's wrong with her?" she said, knowing exactly what she was going to say. "I don't know," Maya said, downcast. "She's kind of scary and I don't think she really wants me as her apprentice, at all. And -- and Zumara, I don't want to leave you!" Zumara just laughed again. "I'm sure you guys will warm up to each other, eventually," he promised. "After all, you're both my girls!" Outside, Ashtari was able to hear every word she said. She smiled when Zumara called her one of her girls, then her eyes narrowed. Scary, huh? she thought to herself. This could be a long apprenticeship.

Writing How Many of You Have Fanfiction.net Accounts?
terra replied to Brood_Mayran's topic in Creative Works
I post my fan fiction on the web but not my original fiction. I'm not sure why ... I guess one reason is I'm afraid my original fiction won't appeal to anybody but me :-P Fan fiction has such a huge fan base already, and it's fun. I do enjoy writing original fiction better, though, because I like entirely making up my own stories :) On a slightly dissimilar but related note, I'm taking a fiction workshop class this summer. Today I have to bring in my piece and the other people in the class are going to read it and rip it apart on Thursday ... [deep sigh] This is probably the first time I've ever actually let other people read my work! I'm scared, wish me good luck :) -
Christian Marks entered Ms. Folcroft's large estate with a briefcase and pressed his hand to her security console. "Christian Marks," he said, and her security system went into action -- his retina was scanned, fingerprints taken, voice recognition system activated, and his height and weight (allowed to fluctuate within three inches or fifty pounds) measured, and a few secret measurements of which only he was aware of were also noted. The system he had designed for Ms. Folcroft had not failed yet. "Christian Marks, you are granted access," a smooth woman's voice informed him, and he walked into the Folcroft mansion. It was an incredible place, but Christian had been there enough times before to not be startled anew by the beautiful marble staircase, fountain in the center of the foyer, and stylishly tiled floor. He nodded to the four security guards who always manned the front entrance of the mansion and clipped up the stairs to Ms. Folcroft's office. He rapped on her door lightly. "Come in," she said. He entered the room and offered her the briefcase. "Here are the statistics on the transformer that was recently installed," he said. As she examined the object, Christian took the time to examine all the features of Ms. Folcroft that he had come to love over the years. "This is excellent work," she said, her hand running over the files possessively. "Who did you say make this?" "A young man named John Dorn," Christian informed her. "Tell him his work was ... satisfactory," Ms. Folcroft ordered. "Yes, ma'am," Christian replied. "Is there anything else?" "Don't give him a bonus, even if he asks for it," she instructed him. "Oh, yes. There was this policeman today, I believe his name was Benjamin Harbor, I wrote it down somewhere right afterwards because I was so mad. He stopped me for speeding. Do me a favor and kill him." Christian allowed himself a smile. "Yes, ma'am," he said. [edit: I'm an idiot. Excuse my idiocy, must not have been thinking. Or not thinking hard enough. :D Edited it so it hopefully fits now.]

"EVERYONE, COME QUICK!" Christian looked around wildly. "Did you hear that?" he asked Destiny, his attempt to put the moves on her quickly forgotten. "Hear what?" she asked. "Someone was calling for help," Christian said. "I think it was Ken. Where did he go?" "I have no idea," Destiny shrugged. "Are you sure you're not just hearing things?" "I'm positive I heard something," Christian said, puzzled. "Nobody else seems to have heard it. I'd better go check it out, though ... just in case." He started off quickly, but Ki called to him from behind. "Christian, wait!" she said. "David just called and he says something important is going on. He wants us to meet at his house." "Well, I'll go to his house after I find Ken and make sure he's okay," Christian said. "But--" Ki started. "I'm positive I heard Ken calling out for help, and even if nobody else heard him, I'm going to find out!" Christian said emphatically. Seeing that the others still looked doubtful, he started off again, running this time. He yelled over his shoulder, "Anyone who wants to come is welcome ... I'll get to David's house as soon as I can!" Christian kept running, speeding up until he was sprinting as fast as he could, not bothering to look back to see if anyone was following him. As he turned a corner he saw Ken, cornered by two giant hawks that didn't quite look like hawks at all ... [ OOC: Sorry, I wanted to do the fight, too, but this post is already too long! :D Maybe later .... ]

OOC: I am touched, truly touched, SJchan Mayran :D. Er ... anyway ... Christian glanced over at Arika. She had a strange look on her face and her eyes were closed. He guessed what Destiny had already figured out, that she was trying to speak to the monster telepathically. The others were watching the beast, ready to attack if it made another move. "So, do you think she'll get anything good out of him?" he asked Destiny. Destiny shrugged in her usual motion. "Who knows? Hopefully, but I should get back home and do my part, in case she doesn't." "You know, maybe I could come with you," Christian said, as a clump of his hair fell unceremoniously into his face. Destiny raised an eyebrow. "Not like that," Christian corrected himself hastily, fixing his hair. "I just mean, it might be good to have company. Er ... I mean, now that something big like this has happened already, we should be on the alert, and it'd be easiest to take action if we were already in one place together, and didn't have to get together first, which would just be a waste of time." Destiny smirked, "Longest run-on sentence ever." At her joke, Christian relaxed. "Well?" he asked. "What do you think? I'll probably just fall asleep as soon as I can get some rest, anyway -- but it's up to you."

Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
terra replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
FLCL is a six-episode OVA. It's about a boy named Naota and his encounter with an alien, and plenty of other weird events. Oh, and it's supposed to be pretty darn amazing. Try these sites for more info: http://www.animeacademy.com/library/flcl/flcl.html http://www.point-blank.cc/reviews/index.php?action=view&ident=81 I've never seen it, but I've heard tons about it and I'm really excited CN is going to bring it to their lineup. Yay! :) By the way, there are also posts about this in the sticky thread up top, "anime on television announcements." -
"Stimulated?" Talayeh said curiously, and looked to the other girl. She did not look back. Talayeh wasn't sure what the strange woman meant by her even stranger words. Then, suddenly, a blast of cold wind surrounded her. Her hair whipped around her face uncontrollably and Talayeh was seeing visions, of darkness and color, swirls of intangible memories that were painfully just out of reach. "Another world," she breathed, and the visions disappeared. The two girls reappeared, as did the rest of the city of New York. "What was that?" Talayeh asked. "It was your memories," Luyii replied. "I simply tried to give you an easier access to them. What did you see?" "I saw myself ..." Talayeh said slowly. "And yet it was not myself. She ... I ... was powerful." "We will find that other self," Luyii said. "And much more than that."

Name: Rydia Salayes (Note: I didn't intend for this to be the original Rydia, though it pretty much sounds exactly like her. I wrote her story first, then decided to use her name for the sake of ease.) Age: 19 Origin: Village of Mist Allegiance: Ramza Batallion Rank: Private Summoner (as per Zidargh's instructions :)) Job Class: Summoner (Though Summoners are generally weak at attacking and defense, they have the capability to call upon magical monsters to serve various purposes in battle.) Weapon/s: Staff Biography: Rydia was born in the Village of Mist, a tiny village within the vast Civil Grounds. The village had remained hidden for several hundred years from any outside contact, protected by one monster who prevented any humans from entering with her strong cloud of mist that caused confusion to all it touched. The Kelost Empire encountered the monster on one of their missions to the Civil Grounds to recruit new officers. After a fierce battle, the monster fell, and with it, Mist's protection. The army soon discovered the village's secret: it was full of powerful Summoners, who had stayed in hiding for generations to avoid using their powers to change the course of history. They had not, however, gone without hearing news of the Kelost Empire and their evil intent. The discovered Summoners' tiny village was soon surrounded by the army. Many chose to fight with their abilities; the army was resolved to force them into subordination, and with reinforcements was able to beat down the tiny village. Most summoners, realizing the direness of the situation, chose to kill themselves rather than give themselves over to the Empire. A lucky few escaped, Rydia among them. The group of escapees soon split up rather than provide the Empire easier access to track them down. Rydia traveled across the Civil Grounds, making her own way and calling upon her monsters only if she was in desperate need for help. When, hurt, she called upon the moogle Mogri for healing, he listened to all that had happened to her and said he might know just the place for her. He led her to the Ramza Batallion Headquarters, where she listened to their purpose. Remembering what had happened to her tiny village, she joined the ranks without hesitation. Appearance: Something like this, but in medieval clothes, and in color :-P. Brown hair and eyes.
