offgame: Worry not, my loyal Ginny, the results are now clear. :toothy:
********
ongame:

Regent Cid walked in front of the six contestants.

Cid: "So, another stage in this game starts. After this, there will be only five of you left in this competition, and you will then compete against each other as individuals.

But you will still remain as one team during the rest of the game. You have selected one among you to guide the new team to it's start. That person will have to choose the name, color and the airship to the new team. And that someone is almost unanimously... Cecil.

Do you understand your responsibility now, Cecil?"

Cecil: "I do, Cid."

Cid: "Excellent! Now, one of you other five will leave now, and that someone is you... Sephiroth."

Sephiroth: "What?! Really...? But... I thought... you were my... friends! Well, I'll see you all... in your worst nightmares!!!"

Sephiroth leaves the room escorted by a thunder.

Zell: "Creepy... Lucky we got rid of that guy!"
Sephiroth *from behind the door*: "I can still hear you, blondie!"
Zell: "Whoopsie..."

Cid: "Well, Cecil, Rinoa, Auron, Zidane and Zell, you will now form a merged team, with a new name and color. But before we can move onto our next destination, you will need a new base. Follow me to the airship docks."

At the docks:
Cid: "Well, time for decisions, captain Cecil. You can choose the airship to your team from the following:
*Ragnarok, the dynamic red lightining
*Hilde Garde IV, the highly enhanced fortress-on-air
*Cargo Ship, the crappy no-use flying row-boat
*Prima Vista, the exclusively roomy and fancy-looking theater-ship
or
*Highwind, the silver-lined speeder.
Which one shall it be?"

offgame: I'll reveal the next destination once Des makes up his mind. Domon, you are now entitled for a last farewell-post.

*takes a bow* I'll do my best as captain. ^_^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For a moment, Cecil was drawing a blank as to which airship to choose as he stared up at the four magnificent and one not-so-magnificent ships. Then a thought struck him, a memory of a time far back in his life, before his great journey.
He then pointed up to the Ragnarok and said, "I choose the Ragnarok. With its crimson finish, our new team shall be known as the Redwings! I once commanded the Redwings of Baron, an elite fleet of airships, and now I am honored once more to lead an elite group of survivors." With a glance and a grin back at Auron, he added, "You fit the part well."
offgame: Coolies! :D But firstly I want to say that I'm sorry, Desbreko, but we won't visit the world of FF4 (just because I know next to nothing about it). I planned that we would visit all he worlds where the characters are from, but... :( Well, read on to find out the next location.
At the beginning of the fantastic game of surviving there where twelve of them. Now seven of them have left the game. Tidus and Squall dropped out immediately, and few days later they were followed by Rikku. After that it was Freya's turn to go. Then another double-eviction occurred, as both Zack and Cloud were evicted. Last to fall out was Sephiroth.
Now five contestants continue the game - Auron, Cecil, Rinoa, Zell and Zidane. The two teams that were formed in the beginning of the game - Avalanche and Tantalus - are now merged to one - Redwings. For his first time Cecil has taken the lead as the captain, but from now on all five survivors will compete as individuals - against each others. Three more will go when the game speeds from a world to another. At the last world a grand voting is set between the two remaining survivors, as only one can become The Final Fantastic Survivor.
The fresh team of Redwings gathered to Ragnarok, their transportation-vehicle for the duration of the game.
Zell: "Welcome to our place!"
Zidane: "Neat!!! Look at all those dynamic curves... Were you the model for this, Rinoa?"
Rinoa: "Nice try, tail-wagger."
Auron: "Well, apparently we will have to wait for Cid to appear again..."
Cecil: "Not for long: there he comes!"
Cid: "So, team Redwings! The five of you have made it this far, so congratulations for that. All of you will surely gain lots of respect in your home-worlds. But speaking of worlds, it is time to change the scenery again. There is three more worlds to go, so we better cast haste on us. From now on I will no longer have my own airship, but I will travel with you. So, take your seats, everybody, as we are off!"
The crown-headed old man took the pilot's seat, and the five contestants sat on the row of benches behind it. The gates of Lindblum opened, and the red lightning took off. A huge vortex opened to the clear-blue sky, and Cid guided the ship straight into it.
A flash of light blinded everybody temporarily.
~~~~~~~~
As they gained their sight back, they saw a ruined world from the window in front of them.
Rinoa: "Yeww... What is this place?"
Voice: "This is the World of Ruination (FF6). A powerful magic knight called Kefka destroyed it, with the aid of a powerful Emperor, but now it is in the process of healing. Many monsters still live here, though, and the population is extra-cautions."

All five contestants looked at the pilot seat. The noble regent had changed into a small, plumpy, funny looking man wearing yellow overall.
Man: "Yes, this is me: Cid. In this world I'm a top one engineer. I used to work for the Empire, but when I heard the truth about their doings, I left them. But that is a long story. I'll take this ship to Figaro Castle, ruled by my friend King Edgar. You can rest there, or go on a little tour with the ship. I will summon you when it is time for your first challenge against each other. Now, the castle isn't far from here..."
**********
offgame: I'm sure that some of you don't know the world of FF6, but if you have problems, just ask me or other players, okay? :) The map is again included.

Auron heaves a heavy sigh. "Don't tell me--cardboard cutouts again?"
~~~~~~~~~
OoC: Sage, does Desbreko determine who gets what text color? He and I were discussing that a few nights ago, and we couldn't agree if that point had come up or not. I'm just saying because Zell and Auron are awfully close in text color, and we might need someone to distinguish the two or--*hides*
I was under the impression that I was only going to choose the color of the whole team, not the colors for each individual character. That's what it sounded like from Sage's post, but I dunno.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just as Auron finished speaking, a flush was heard from the stern of the ship and Cecil came back up to the bridge to replace his cut-out. "You know, this thing is kind of handy. People don't even notice when you slip out to take a bathroom break until you're back. I bet I could even catch some quick naps using this thing."

Leaning over to Auron, Zidane nudged him with an elbow. "I think we voted the wrong person in as captain," he murmured.

"You only say that because Rinoa was the other choice," Cecil smirked over at Zidane.

"Huh? What, I, uh. . . ." Zidane trailed off and gave an innocent little smile over towards Rinoa. Maybe Cecil was sharper than he had thought. Auron just shook his head and let out another sigh, and Rinoa remained silent.

As the airship set down at the base of a sand dune, Cid stood up from the pilot's chair and smiled. "Well, here we are."

"But there's nothing here but desert," Zell said as he looked out of the front viewport.

"Looks can be decieving," Cid said as the ground started shaking. The Redwings scrambled for something to hang on to as the ship rocked on its landing gear, all five staring out at what looked to be a huge pit opening up in the sand before them. Out of this rose a giant castle, the sand falling from its stone walls and towers like waterfalls. With one final grinding shake, its two watchtowers spread out from its sides, locking into place a ways out from the main castle. "Welcome to Figaro Castle. Oh, and Zidane. . . ."

"Huh? Yeah?" Zidane looked a bit startled, wondering what Cid wanted.

"You're probably going to have a bit of competition while you stay here," Cid said with a wink and started towards the exit hatch.

As the team followed, streaming out one by one to meet the people exiting the castle, Zidane fell behind a bit while pondering Cid's words. Competition? What did he mean by that? he thought. And then it became all too clear as he stepped out of the Ragnarok's hatch and saw their host. King Edgar Figaro, bowing and kissing Rinoa's hand before leading her up the steps and into the castle. He caught a wink from Edgar to Cid, who walked in behind Edgar and Rinoa with the rest of the team following.

Rinoa and Edgar chatted along, as Team Redwings entered the newly emerged castle.

Such a gentleman, I wish there were more men like you in the...well, the many worlds.

Haha, I'm glad you think so highly of me, such a kindly and absolutely beautiful woman you are.

Rinoa giggled at his remark, and Edgar smiled with delight, and signaled a thumbs up to the team behind him.

Edgar slipped his arm around Rinoa's shoulders, and offered her a tour of his castle.

So what do you say, would you like to see my wonderous castle?

Hmm, I think that would be enjoyable, so sure, I'd love to!

Edgar led Rinoa off towards a staircase as the team watched, but just then, Cid jumped in.

Alright Team Redwings, you can either tour the castle, like I said before, or explore the land! Your choice, I'll be waiting here in the castle when you're done.

Cid walked off, towards anothea hall of the castle, dissapearing in the corridors.

I think..I'll just...tour the castle...I'll find that stupid King, show him he can't take my target!

Auron laughed under his breath at Zidane, and Cecil simply shook his head and smiled.

Such jealously Zidane, maybe you should just give up on Rinoa.

Indeed, there's no possible way that YOU could compete with King Edgar...

What!? Why I...gahh..you just wait and see!

Zidane stomped off after Edgar and Rinoa, while the Crimson Knight and Team Gentleman stayed behind, feeling as though they should follow and taunt him even more, but resisting such urges.

It seems we are the only ones left, what do you suggest we do?

OoC: Sage, step in quick before we run too far away! ^_~
~~~~~~~
Auron sighed and rubbed his aching eye.
"Auron?"
"Mmm? Oh, don't worry. I'm just tired."
"So what do you think we should do?" Cecil asked again.
"I have no knowledge of this world..."
"...nor do I, but--"
STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!
"WHOOO! Mech suits, YEAH!"
Auron and Cecil stared in bewilderment as Zidane rode off in the large machine, the earth still shaking beneath the massive thumps.
"I take it that he isn't thinking about Rinoa anymore."
"Hmmm," Auron nodded in agreement.
They stared quietly after the already-gone figure; a bird flew overhead in solitary tranquility.
"Do you know what I've almost forgotten?"
"What's that?" Cecil asked, almost not paying attention.
"Zidane. Thieves. People like this man right here--" Auron grabbed the man in question's wrist and yanked him into Cecil's view. "--trying to steal our possessions."
"I don't steal!"
"Let me guess--Auron's blade caught your attention."
The man shrugged. "I thought it could have been some sort of relic of a bygone era and--"
"I do not tolerate thievery."
The man broke free, working himself into a rage. "I'm not a thief, I'm a treasure hunter! Good gods, do you know who I am?!"
"Not...really?"
"I am Locke, the greatest treasu--"
"Thief."
"I am not!" Locke nearly whined. "I merely locate treasure and borrow it indefinitely."
"Therefore you are a thief."
"Treasure hunter!"
"Even your own name suggests evidence contrary to your self-proclaimed nature."
Locke looked to Cecil for help.
"He says your name even says you are a thief."
"TREASURE HUNTER! Good gods, how many times do I have to TELL you people?!?"
STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!
"AUUUUGHH! HOW DO YOU STOP THIS THING?!?"
Auron looked to Cecil and smirked. "Looks like we didn't have to go far to find something to do."
offgame: Sorry sorry sorry... I REALLY meant to post the next challenge yesterday, but for some strange reason I couldn't get IN!!! It was really spooky... :nervous:
But now I'm here and we can continue! :D
Oh, Ginny, you asked about the personal colors? Hasn't it been everybodys own issue during the whole game if they want to change it? Well, I'm not using them anyways, so you can do whatever you want with your color. ;)
And now, finally...
********
ongame:
When Zidane was finally caught and helped out of the M-Tek suit, the five Redwings settled to King Edgar's council room to hear the next challenge.
Cid: "Hello again, people! I just want to say that the game is getting faster from this point, so we won't spent a lot of time in this world.
As you compete as individuals from now on, the rules have changed a bit too. From this contest on, the person who wins will become the new captain of the Redwings, gaining immunity at the same. So s/he cannot be voted out in the next council. Is this clear? Excellent!
Now, to the challenge: it is called Espers - gotta catch'em all!
Here is what you have to do: each of you will leave here ALONE to search for the magicites (summon-monsters (espers) sealed inside of gems) scattered around this world. This challenge requires speed, good orienteering skill and luck, as there is only one of each esper. If someone else has caught the magicite you were searching for before you, you will have to go to another place. The winner is the one who has collected most magicites after a certain amount of time has passed.
Here's the espers and their locations:
*Alexander - in Doma Castle throneroom, beat monster WrexSoul
*Bahamut - beat monster DoomGaze in a random place in the sky (use the Golden Chocobo or airship)
*Fenrir - in Mobliz, beat monster Phunbaba
*Golem - buy from Jidoor Auction
*Odin - in Ancient Castle, use a secret tunnel from Figaro Castle
*Palidor - in Solitary Island beach (rent a boat or use Golden Chocobo or airship)
*Phoenix - in Phoenix Cave
*Ragnarok - from a senile old man in Narshe
*Seraphim - buy from a thief in Tzen for a random price
*Starlet - in Jidoor Rich Man's house, beat monster Chadarnook
*Terrato - in the cave of a yeti in Narshe, from a stone carving
*Tritoch - in a cliff in Narshe, beat monster Tritoch
*ZoneSeek - buy from Jidoor Auction
Understood? Survivors ready? GO!!!"
*******
offgame: Actually that wasn't all: there are some rules involved that don't fit in the game-world:
1) You can only catch one esper per post!
2) You have time until Thursday to collect the espers.
3) Watch each others posts: all the espers are unique!
4) I know there are more espers in the game than I listed, but please go only after these I've listed - the others are unavailable! (meaning Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, Maduin etc.)
Are the rules clear? Well, you can start now. :)
OoC: I made it up to the Opera House in this game before my copy was lost, and I've been spending all my free time trying to get a new copy. As such, I don't know anything about the Espers, but here goes.
ALSO, there is a bit of a spoiler about Auron further down. If you have not finished or played FFX yet, you can skip this post and just know that Auron got the
Phoenix
Esper. (And yes, that is NOT the FF3 image of it down there, but I thought it looked pretty, so there!)
~~~~~~~~~
Auron listened carefully to Cid, an idea sparking in his mind. Locke, hidden behind Auron's chair, tried to grab for the Masamune again. The Crimson Warrior whirled on him so fast that Locke fell over, catching everyone's attention.
"Locke, would you quit trying to steal Auron's sword?!"
"He wasn't stealing, he was looking!"
"That's right--I'm a treasure hunter, NOT a thief!"
Zell chuckled and Rinoa smiled bashfully.
"Do you really think my sword is some sort of relic?" Auron asked Locke.
"If I say yes does that mean I can have it?"
"Aeons," Auron muttered under his breath. "No," he explained with strained patience, "if I do not have my sword, that means I will die out there."
"Can I have it then?"
Zell fell out of his chair laughing. "You have to admire his persistence, Red."
Red? "Mmmm. Cid, I think I am ready now."
"All right. What do you plan to do?"
"I would like to be flown to Tzen, if at all possible."
"Of course." Cid turned to the rest of the survivors. "Get ready to depart, the rest of you. I'll drop you off as you figure out where you want to be. That way, there'll be no arguments as to who gets the airship."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Somewhere near Tzen...
As the airship lifted off, Auron waved his sword to acknowledge the calls of luck and goodbye. He began to trudge in what he determined to be a south direction.
The ground soon rose up sharply, large jagged rocks stabbing the earth from within, struggling to reach the sky. Auron carefully climbed, the Masamune strapped tightly to his back.
It wasn't until the sun had sunk near the sea's horizon that Auron wondered if he was going in the right direction at all. There had been no signs of civilization, and the rocks had quickly grown into a massive mountain. Going back without a plan was fruitless and risky, so Auron promised himself to reach a high enough spot that would allow him to scout the surrounding area before continuing on.
Darkness pressed harder, as both night and an unexpected storm brewed up. Lightning tore like gaunt wolves through the flocks of clouds, and it wasn't long before they bled the rain onto the earth, hard and fast. Auron was forced to take cover in a cave.
Sitting near the entrance of the cave, close enough for the sporadic flashes of light but far enough to stay dry, Auron eyed his temporary home. A few old wooden boxes, warped with age and chewed by countless termites, sat abandoned to one side. Auron broke one apart easily, using his sword and a rock to start a small fire. The storm raged harder outside, as if angry at Auron's comfort; inside the cave, the light glowed warmly.
It also lit up the glyphs on the wall.
Auron blinked to make sure it wasn't the light playing tricks. But it wasn't--something like golden paint shone gently on the walls, and he touched them gently, as if afraid the markings would disappear. Tracing them with a finger, he noticed they resembled feathers and fire, at the same time.
"Well, how about that?" Auron chuckled gruffly to himself. "I do believe I stumbled into a passage of the Phoenix Cave. Not the Esper I was first looking for, but--"
Thunder clapped loudly outside; Auron, unfazed, took a piece of burning wood and explored the cave further.
His search was rewarded when he came into a large, empty room, deeper in the mountain than he expected. Stalagmites and stalactites protruding like random teeth, but one stalagmite in particular drew Auron's attention. It held a large glowing stone atop.
The Crimson Warrior approached cautiously, alert for any potential attacks from unexpected monsters. The only thing that happened was the stone glowing a bright, then brighter red, as he drew closer.
He reached out his hand to take the stone, but just before he could, something called shrilly, echoing about the room. Auron frantically turned to search the room, the stone now behind him, but saw nothing. Behind him a great heat throbbed and he returned to looking at the stone.
The creature was too beautiful, too wild, too fantastic for words. Rainbow light was thrown from its multitude of feathers, and the shadows of the room disappeared instantly.
"Phoenix..." Auron breathed.
It shrilled back, musical this time, and flapped its wings. And a pyrefly floated past Auron.
"Bird of rebirth..." Another pyrefly. "Wait!"
It trilled, almost questioningly.
"You can't...not now...not here. I still have too much to do."
The Phoenix sighed, a heartbreaking melody.
"Will you come with me?"
In response, the creature vanished, as did the pyreflies. Auron was blinded by the unexpected darkness.
No, not complete darkness. The stone still throbbed gently. He picked it up carefully.
Wow Ginny, that post, very touching.^^ I love the way you expressed the Phoenix's cries. Ah and Ginny, I shall copy your use of piccies!^^
Anyone else need to go anywhere? Cecil, Zell, Zidane, Rinoa?
I believe I will be staying here at the caslte for now Cid, so I won't need the airship yet.
Alrighty then, if you're sure.
Cid turned to the other survivors, and Rinoa motioned for Edgar to follow her. She walked off down a corridor, and into a random room she had picked. It turned out to be a study, where she and Edgar sat down.
Dear Rinoa, do you need to speak to me of something?
King Edgar smiled gently, waiting for a response.
Actually..I was wondering...if you knew where the secret passage leading to Ancient castle is?
Is that all you needed? Why I believe I do, and it's quite simple to get to. Come, follow me.
Edgar led Rinoa throughout the castle, eventually leading her to a secret entrance, which opened almost "magically" when the King appraoched.
Will you be needing any assistance from here?
No, but thankyou. I've got to do this by myself, but I'll be seeing you after the challenge.
Edgar quickly took Rinoa's hand once again, kissing it before she left.
Blushing, Rinoa turned around, straped on her Blaster Edge, and waved goodbye to the King of Figaro, wandering off into the dark tunnel..
~In the Tunnel~
Rinoa traveled on through the dark, and chilling tunnel, slinging her weapon at the small but still threatening monsters the came by once in a while.
Each step seemed to make her colder, for the deeper she went, the icier the dark road became.
I..better get to this Esper soon...or I'm..gonna freeze to de..what is that..
A bright light shimmered forth, and an exit to the tunnel appeared right in front of Rinoa. Revealed through it was a giant, dark, and old castle, of which she stepped caustiously into.
This must be..the Ancient Castle..brr..
Rinoa shivered, as it seemed only a tiny bit warmer inside the castle. She walked over towards a large staircase before her, that seemed to lead up to an even bigger room than downstairs.
Rinoa approached the stairs, then began to climb them tediously. As she reached the top, she noticed a large pedistal, that was sculpted as two arms, with the hands holding up a small dark orb.
It must be...the Esper..
Rinoa reached the top of the stairs, and walked slowly over to the stone appendages.
When she had come to the orb, she reached out to grab it, hoping to take it quickly and retreat. Before she could touch the orb though, a faint light shot her back, and suddenly, a stream of dark, misty energy emerged from the sphere, and Rinoa could now hear a horse in the room.
What...who's there?
Rinoa looked up, and to her amazement, a dark figure riding a six legged horse hovered only a few meters above her.
I am Odin, God of Lightning. I can strike down your foes, if only you might call upon me.
Suddenly, after a large gaspy sigh from Rinoa, Odin faded back into the Magicite orb, which floated over to Rinoa, landing in her hands.
Whoa..looks like...I've gotten myself an Esper...
OoC: Very nice! Hmmm...I wonder what to use as a pic for the Seraphim? Oh well...
Oh, true stuff on the name Masamune below. I found it on an FF site!
~~~~~~~
The storm had tapered off sooner than Auron expected. With a noiseless stretch, he left the cave of the Phoenix and looked around. In his large sleeve, the Phoenix Esper stone glowed gently, as a promise to always be there for him.

Though Auron had not taken any part in the Chocobo catching back during the Golden Chocobo trial, he found that stumbling across such birds was easy. Especially when you still had a Sylkis Green or two left. They practically sought you out when you had one.
"Kweh?"
Like this bugger here, shoving Auron with its yellowy head. "Kweh KWEH!"
"What the--?!"
"Wark!"
The Chocobo couldn't have been more than a few years old, still an adolescent, really. It roughly nudged Auron again, then sniffled at his sleeve. The Esper rock shone hotly, and Auron let out a sharp yelp, waving his arm around to keep from being burned. Startled, the Chocobo backed away and the rock cooled off.
But Sylkis Greens had a way of bringing them back. The Chocobo was far enough away to get a running start and pummeled straight into Auron's back before the rock could react. The Crimson Warrior landed rather ungainly on the rough ground, his breath knocked out of him.
"Kweeeeeeeeeeh?" A pair of inquisitive eyes stared closely at his own.
"Bah, get off with you!"
"Ooo wee ooo kweh!" The Chocobo nipped at his sleeve, and Auron laughed.
"Oh, that's right. A Green. Here, before you tear my clothes apart." He drew it from his robe and tossed it into the air, where the Chocobo easily snatched it up. Two snaps of its large beak, and the Green was gone. Purring, the Chocobo nudged Auron again.
"Oh no, no you don't, I don't have anymore!"
"Kweh!" The Chocobo took a gentle but firm grip on his massive collar, dragging Auron along.
"What now?"
After dragging him along for a bit, the Chocobo knelt down and looked at him expectingly. It even whistled impatiently at him. Auron walked over and climbed on the Chocobo's back, and it warked happily.
"As if I knew where to go--!"
But his words were lost to the mountain air as the Chocobo tore south in the dark night.

Auron disembarked just outside of Tzen, his boots making a squelching noise as he hit the wet ground. The stone glowed warmly in his sleeve and the Chocobo kwehed softly in farewell, running back into the wild where it belonged.
"We just need to find that thief now. The Relic Shop should be somewhere--" And he felt the familiar tug of a thief trying to take the Masamune.
"Halt!" Auron barked loudly, jerking his sword away from the groping hands. The golden tassels dangled from the handle, catching the thief's eye again.
"But sir," the man started in a wheedling voice that instantly put Auron on edge, "surely you don't need a rusty old thing like that."
Auron pointed his sword directly at the thief's head. "And surely you don't need a dirty old thing like that."
The thief gulped nervously and tried to inch out from underneath the point of the blade.
"Ah ah ah," Auron scolded. "You are not going anywhere until I get information."
"Anything, anything!"
"The Seraphim Esper."
The thief stared at him blankly.
"Surely you have it--a colorful rock, unlike anything you've ever seen before."
"Oh, you mean this old thing," the thief said in a bored tone, pulling out the stone in question. It shone like a moonstone in the night. "What do I get for it?"
"What do you want?"
"Money. Lots of it."
Auron groaned inwardly. "Fine, how much?"
"You are willing to buy, I am willing to sell. But, I think 'twould be far better to make a trade than a purchase, no?"
"No," Auron shot back, knowing exactly what the thief had in mind.
"Old man, would not be wise to upset me. Otherwise..." A click of a small blade could be heard.
"I would not have your blood spilled, but if you so desire..." He readied the Masamune.
"This is your last chance, old man. Trade now!"
Auron's answer was quiet and firm. "No."
"Then I will cut you piece by piece--starting with that eye of yours. Will be fitting to rob you blind, but even more fitting to slay you when you are not looking!" The Thief rushed Auron, aiming his dagger at Auron's head. Auron easily deflected it, but the force of the thief's charge caused the dagger to slide down the Masamune and sink into Auron's leg. He bit his lip hard to keep from crying out in pain.
"Not what I intended, but good enough." The thief raised his dagger again, but froze and screamed.
For out of Auron's sleeve rose the Phoenix in all its glory, its rainbow luminesence spreading across town, revealing other similar shady wheelings and dealings in forgotten alleys. The other thieves ran for cover, but Auron's thief was paralyzed with fear.
Phoenix gently trilled to Auron and scented blood. The fire about the creature flashed in rage and it towered above his head, peacock tails trailing about him protectively as it glared at the quivering thief.
Auron lifted his sword, which began to glow with a fire of its own. And in that light, the thief understood.
"Augh, Dokuganryuu Masamune! Masamune, the One Eyed Dragon! You have come to smite me in such holy wrath!"
Auron hid his amused bewilderment and raised his sword higher, the Phoenix glowing brighter in response.
"Please sir, please take it--I meant no disrespect!" The thief flung the Seraphim magicite to Auron and bolted, wailing "Dokuganryuu Masamune!" over and over again. (The next day he was locked up, thought to have gone insane.)
"It's been an exciting night already," Auron murmured, clenched his teeth in pain.
The Phoenix trilled and returned to the red Magicite. Auron carefully picked up the Seraphim one, wanting to take care with his new wound--
--except there wasn't one now. He glanced sharply at his bloody leg, and saw the stain, saw the rip in the cloth, but his skin was whole. The Seraphim magicite flashed, just once, and Auron understood. He placed the new stone with the first one in his sleeve for safe keeping, then began to ponder about his next location.

This Esper is blessed with the power of healing.
OoC: Mmm, if you all don't hurry, I'm gonna get most of the Espers. Erhm, should I slow down, Sage, or am I going at an ok rate? (There's enough for each person to get two, plus one extra one.)

*Decides to go ahead and post again, since she has nothing better to do.*Oo Oh and Ginny, I found you a pic of Seraphim right here.

Rinoa had ventured back through the chilling tunnel to Figaro Castle, meeting up with King Edgar and Cid in the main hall once she returned.

Were you successful in your quest, dear Rinoa?

I sure did, see?

Rinoa reached into her pocket upon her duster-like coat, revealing a small black Magicite orb, glowing with a purple hue.

Amazing, really it is, but we've got to hurry this challenge up. You need to go anywhere while I'm free on time?

Oh sorry, yes, I'd like to get going right away!

Rinoa slipped the orb back into her pocket, and rushed off with Cid to the airship, waving once again to King Edgar.

After reaching the airship, Rinoa directed Cid to where she wanted to go, and they took off, on their way to Jidoor.

~Jidoor~

After landing at Jidoor, running inside the town, and wandering to the auction house, Rinoa slipped out her bag of Gil, ready to buy.

Hmm..I'll only be able to afford one, IF I'm lucky, better hope nobody else knows what it is..

Rinoa walked up to the large doors of the Auction House, pushing them open, revealing bright lights, numerous people, and plenty of rare items on display.

Wow..this is..amazing..

Next Bid, a mystical and beautiful stone, it's whereabouts unknown, it's powers untold!

Wha..oh my! I'd better sit down!

Rinoa grabbed a number stick, and ran to catch a seat near the front.

What do I hear for this dazzling item? 100, 200, 300 gil?

400!

500!

Fine, 600!

Hmm...guess I better jump in, it looks like a Magicite Stone..alright then..700!

The prices rose and rose, and the auctioneers were growing tired and short on Gil.

2500! I won't go any higher!

3000, and that's final!

Hmm, I've got 5000, so if anyone goes higher than that..I'm out of luck, 4000!

That's it, I'm out..

.....

4000, 4000, do I hear any higher? Anyone, anyone at all!? Fine then, SOLD FOR 4000 GIL!

Yes!

Rinoa ran up to the counter, where a nicely suited man handed her the stone in a box, in exchange for 4000 of Rinoa's Gil.

Rinoa happily retreated with her newly earned Esper, which once she was outside, emerged from the colorful orb.

Wow..a..another Esper..

Zoneseek, the giant, protective Esper flew above her, shining its energy's light upon the town of Jidoor.

Before Rinoa could say anything else, Zoneseek nodded towards Rinoa, and flew right back down into the Magicite Crystal.

Two for me...how much more to go?

Hey, I've got pics of all the Espers from FFVI. For pics of the ones in the challenge, just use http://www.angelfire.com/ex/desbreko/-----.gif and put the name of the Esper in place of the dashes. And be sure to capitalize the name. ^_^

And now, without further delay, behold my super-long post! What I lack in quantity I make up for with quality.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking over the list of Espers, Cecil tried to decide which to get first. Finally just deciding to go for the first one on the list, he said, "I'll go to Doma Castle."
"Right you are," said Cid as he turned the ship around to head northeast. "I'll have you there in no time." Roaring off towards Doma, Cid sent the airship into a climb to gain altitude before leveling off. They were cruising above the thick red clouds, when all of a sudden, the ship rocked back and forth. "What the?"
"Turbulence?" Cecil asked as he held onto his chair.
"That's not turbulence. . . ." A dark shadow flew across the sky in front of the viewport. ". . .That's Doom Gaze!
"How do I fight it from in here?"
"You don't."
A blank look from Cecil, then a resigned sigh. "Right. I'll be off, then," he said and headed for the hatch. Why is it that I always get caught up in the air? he thought to himself. I mean, I'm not even the one piloting the ship this time. With another resigned sigh, he opened the hatch, the force of the wind almost sucking him out. "Show me what you've got!" he yelled, and jumped out at Doom Gaze as it flew past.
Cid just stared out from the viewport for a moment as he watched Cecil falling straight down at Doom Gaze. "Crap," he simply said, and then sent the airship into a steep descent, following Cecil down.
Unsheathing his sword as he fell, Cecil took a two-handed grip and plunged straight down at Doom Gaze. Stabbing the Crystal Sword down through the tattered cloth around the monster's wide shoulders, Cecil was surprised to find that his sword hit nothing else besides air, the Doom Gaze being made up of nothing but bones. It screamed and rolled in the air as Cecil landed on its back, throwing him off to the side and sending him tumbling. Circling back around, the hideous creature flew at Cecil, scoring deep scratches in his Crystal Armor with its long claws.
"Is that all?" Flipping around to face Doom Gaze after his tumble, Cecil pointed his palm out at the monster and said, "Cure2!" White light flashed across Doom Gaze and it screamed again, this time in agony as the spell hit it.
"Thought so; undead." But then everything went a hazy red-black, and visibility was reduced to less than a foot. They had hit the cloud cover, and Cecil couldn't see a thing. Taking advantage of its enemies blindness, Doom Gaze once again circled around. Swiping Cecil's left arm this time, it poisoned him in addition to scoring a deep wound. Cecil had to fight to keep from fainting as the pain of the wound, the poison, and the effect of the freefall all combined against him. Biting his tongue, Cecil slashed his sword in the direction he thought Doom Gaze had flown, but it was too late. Then, as quick as they had entered, they left the clouds and now the land below was visible. They were above the ocean, a medium sized continent off to the east a bit.
Back on the Ragnarok, Cid caught sight of Cecil again as they burst out of the clouds. Blood was trailing out from his arm, seeming to fall up when compared to Cecil. "He's going to get himself killed!" he yelled at no one in particular. Gritting his teeth, Cid prepared to try and catch Cecil with the Ragnarok before he hit the water.
Regaining his concentration and fighting off the effects of the wound, Cecil dodged another pass from Doom Gaze. "Cure2!" This time the white light flashed across his own body, and the wound on his arm closed up part way; it would take more than a Cure2 to completely heal that wound. However, he was still poisoned, and he could feel it slowly sapping his strength. Taking a quick glance down, he saw the water fast approaching; this fight would be ending soon, and there were only three outcomes. One, he would kill Doom Gaze and live; two, Doom Gaze would kill him; or three, both would die as he killed Doom Gaze but not in time for Cid to stop him from plunging into the ocean below. He definitely liked the first option best, but the chances for it weren't looking good.
"I'm at least going to take you with me!" Cecil threw himself forward through the air, lunging at Doom Gaze with his sword raised. Doom Gaze flew at him, slashing at him once more, but before it could make contact the sky was rent with its horrible scream. The bones of its right arm flew away off into the air, Cecil flying past with a wide arc of his sword. Turning in mid-air Cecil gritted his teeth and held his sword out with both hands on the hilt, holding the blade up and sighting along its edge. He remembered doing this when he was a Dark Knight--it was the Dark Wave Attack. He didn't know what would happen now that he was a Paladin. Not caring, he forced all the energy he could muster into the Crystal Sword, pointed its tip at Doom Gaze . . . and fired.
Cid, even having the protective canopy of the Ragnarok, had to cover his eyes. A flash of pure white light streaked out across the sky at Doom Gaze. Ripping through the monster before it even had a chance to scream, the Light Wave ripped up through the clouds and shot out into space, lighting up the sky with its brilliance for miles around. In front of Cecil, Doom Gaze blew away in the wind, nothing left of it but ashes. In its place was a silver-hued jewel. It flashed gold, and then a huge black Dragon arose in a flash above it. Swooping down below Cecil, Bahamut caught him on its shoulders before landing deftly on the shore of the nearby continent.
As the Ragnarok set down a little ways away, Cecil dismounted and stared up at Bahamut. The dragon reared up roared, spreading it's wings wide, before returning to the Magicite shard that had landed next to it in the sand. Cecil walked over and carefully picked up the shard, holding it in both hands.
"That was quite a show!" Cid walked up and slapped Cecil on the back. "You scared the hell out of me when you jumped, though."
"Sorry about that." He coughed. "Just a minute. . . . Heal!" a multi-colored cylinder of light played up and down around Cecil before fading away. He coughed again, this time not sounding quite as ragged. "Had to take care of the poison."
"Yeah, are you okay? Your arm still looks pretty bad. Maybe you should rest in the airship awhile before you head over to Doma Castle." Cid gestured to a large, deserted castle a ways off to the east.
"I'll be fine," Cecil said as he tucked away the Bahamut Magicite. "I need to hurry up if I want to win this challenge." Cid just shrugged and headed back to the Ragnarok as Cecil started trudging towards the castle, a new fire of determination in his eyes. He would have to use his new Light Wave attack sparingly, as it weakened him greatly for a short time after its use, but it would also be a great asset for the coming battles.
offgame: Sorry, I was in bit of a hurry when I wrote my previous post. But now I want to clarify few things:
Ginny asked if she was going too fast, and my response is: not at all! There's no limit to how many of the espers in the list you get, just make sure you get only one per post. You don't have to play so fairly in this challenge; if someone gets no espers, it's his/her loss! ;)
You can also get the pictures (and some extra info) from eg. these pages: http://con.opgaming.com/ff6/espers.php, http://www.ffonline.com/ff6/.
Hmm, was that all I wanted to say...? Okay, I'll be back tomorrow to announce the winner! :D
Where the heck are BB and Zidargh?Oo() They best hurry up..
Rinoa walked along the streets of Jidoor, examining the list of Espers, pondering which to get next.
Hmm, looks like there is another Esper in Jidoor, that I luckily don't have to pay for..Old Rich Man's house..where do I find that?
Rinoa looked around, hoping to find someone to ask for directions, when suddenly, she felt a hand..
WHY I OUTTA!
Rinoa swung around quickly, nailing the "theif" straight in the face with the back of her hand.
GYAHHH! OW! You...that hurt!
It was meant to.
Rinoa turned to her visitor, leaning down to get a closer look at a young man in rags, whom had been smacked straight onto the ground.
Who are you? Tell me now, or..or face my wrath once again!
The man stood up, dusting himself off, and examining Rinoa carefully.
Such a lovely young lady, what're you doing in a place like this?
Rinoa gazed around herself, just now noticing she was in a back alley; or the slums of the city.
Well...I was looking for something, do you think you could direct me there? I'll forgive you for...umm..well...
I'd be happy to help youout ma'am, if there's money in it of course, where ya wanna go?
Rinoa sighed, taking out her pouch of Gil once again this night.
I'm looking for the "Old Rich Man's House," would you happen to know where-
The young man quickly interupted Rinoa, motioning out of the alley, towards a dark, but fancy street.
Not sure why you wanna go there, but it's directly that way, you'll know what it is when ya see it. Now, I'll just be taking all your-
Rinoa interupted the theif this time, pouring the contents of her Gil on the ground for him, then quickly walking away.
~The House~
This must be it..guess I better knock.
Rinoa approached the mansion, reaching for the knocker which said "Owzer"
She knocked; no answer.
Again she knocked; still no answer, so she decided to just go on in, hoping the owner wouldn't mind, or better yet, wouldn't know.
Wow...fancy. Guess I'd better loo for this monster..Chadarnook...
Rinoa wandered off down a lonely corridor, which seemed to happening quite often lately.
She reached a large room, which appeared to be a library.
Rinoa approached a bookcase, removing a large book from it's place.
Hmm..monsters of the world?
Rinoa opened the book, skimming through it carefully.
Reaching a page that caught her attention, she stopped to read.
Chadarnook...that's the monster I'm looking for..two forms. One of so beautiful, and one...so menacing..
As she read about this monster, a dark shadow seemed to overtake the room, surrounding her slowly.
She turned around caustiously after noticing this change, dropping the book once she saw what lay behind her.
A large monsterous woman hovered in the room, a solemn look on her face as she watched Rinoa studder.
Chadarnook..the monster I must defeat..
Suddenly and without warning, the beautiful woman lunged at Rinoa, transforming into a grim, menacing(as the book decribed) monster.
Rinoa rolled sideways, the monster crashing into the bookcase behind her.
Umph...I'm gonna have a tough time with you if ya keep that up.
Rinoa readied her weapon, prepared to launch it at the monster once it attacked.
Chadarnook pulled itself together, scattering away books crumpled around it. Suddenly, it flew straight towards Rinoa once again, its' claws extended.
Rinoa knew she could not dodge this, and her weapon would never be able to stop it, therefore, she must use magic..
FIRAGA!
The monster screamed in terror as it's cloak and what little skin it had caught on fire.
Yes..it's weak against fire, that helps a lot!
Rinoa smirked at the burning monster, then raced across the room to a larger area, where she could actually fight.
The monster swung around, still with flames upon its' robes, scowling crudely at Rinoa.
Before she could attack it again, it let out a deafening cry, and flew straight at Rinoa once again.
Rinoa tried to roll out of the way, but her stomach had been caught by Chadarnooks claws, tearing a small, but painful hole in her abdomen.
U..ugh..you stupid monster..I'll get you back for that..
Rinoa's eyes glazed over as she fell to the ground, and she wondered if she was going to make it out alive. This monster was much stronger than her, and there was only one way she could possibly defeat it..
ANGEL WINGS! Rinoa floated up into the air, her eyes still glazed over, and wings seeming to emerge from her back.
The monster shreaked at the light given off by Rinoa's power, but this was nothing compared to what was to happen next.
First off, Rinoa cast cure upon herself, which didn't do much, but partially closed her wound. After this, Firaga was cast two times in a row, but much more powerful than before.
Chadarnook again shreiked in pain, it's robe burning clear off, showing only a skeletal figure with hanging skin.
Before the phantom could strike her, Rinoa once again cast Firaga, burning the monsters bones to the ground into nothing but ash..leaving behind only a small yellow orb...
Rinoa then floated to the ground, her wings dissapearing.
I told you..I'd get you back...stupid monster...
Rinoa stood up slowly, and inched over to her prize.
When she reached the Magicite Crystal, it started to glow, sensing her pain. Emerging from the sphere was none other than Starlet, an Esper of Healing.
I am Starlet..let me heal your wounds, and remember to call upon me whenever you need my assistance..
A feint light shined from Starlet's palms, surrounding Rinoa, healing her with a Cure 3.
Thankyou...my new Esper.
Rinoa stood up straight, smiled, and stuck her newly earned prize in her pocket, ready to venture on.
Trudging across the rough, barren land, Cecil made his way to the deserted castle of Doma. It's once mighty walls were now in ruin, the moat all but dried up, and nothing but silence permeating the still halls. Walking up to the large double doors, Cecil shoved them aside with both hands, striding along the walkway in between dank, scummy ditches that once held crystal clear water. Looking about as he walked, Cecil spotted another set of double doors, much like the first. Again shoving the doors aside with much scraping and grinding of the hinges, he pushed his way through into a large hall. The throne room couldn't be far.
Climbing a few stairs, being careful not to trip on the tattered carpets, he made his way to the other end of the long hall. Pillars lined the sides of the hall, and in the center was a walkway leading up to the end of the hall. The only thing that now seperated him from the Esper was one last set of doors. . . . And Wrexsoul, of course. Preparing himself for another battle, Cecil cast Cure on himself to further heal his wound, and stepped through the doors.
Inside the throne room was much like the hall before it. Almost as vast, and just as much in ruins, the main difference was a large throne at the back of the hall. Unsheathing his sword as he stepped through the doors, Cecil expected the monster to be in plain sight--it wasn't. Walking cautiously up to the throne, expecting an attack at any moment, Cecil peered about the room. A red glow appeared about the throne, and Cecil jumped back, sword raised in a parry. In a cloud of swirling smoke, the monster appeared; Wrexsoul.
It laughed, and flew straight through the air at Cecil. Just managing to dodge in time, Cecil threw himself to the side and landed in a roll, coming up with sword raised in a defensive stance. His gaze darting about the room, he couldn't see Wrexsoul anywhere. Apparently, it could disappear at will; something that would normally make the fight much more difficult.
"Sight!" Light flashed across Cecil's eyes as he spoke the word, and he could now see a dark shadow of Wrexsoul flying about the room. While not as precise as normal vision, it was better than not seeing it at all. Dodging another lunge by Wrexsoul, Cecil jumped to the side and countered with a slash of his sword. The blade was wreathed in the flames that Wrexsoul rode on for a moment, but no apparent damage had been done. When the sword emerged, however, it was glowing white with heat. It remained solid, however, and just as powerful as ever.
"Haste!" Casting the spell to keep up with Wrexsoul's immense speed, Cecil darted about the room just as fast as the monster, dodging, slashing, parrying, always looking for an opening; and he found one. Cecil lunged, slashing at the monster's extended arm as it pointed out at him, his blade arcing through the air. And then--Wrexsoul was gone, even to his enhanced sight, seemingly having flown straight through Cecil.
"What . . . is happening?" Cecil fell to the ground into a kneeling position, fighting for control of his body. Wrexsoul had possessed him, and was now fighting him with his own body. His arm shaking, fighting against the monster, Cecil slowly raised the Crystal Sword up to his throat. He couldn't stop himself--Wrexsoul had too much influence. Fighting with all his might, Cecil fought against himself, and just managed to stop the blade's approach only inches from his throat. Once lapse of concentration, and it would all be over.
His whole body shaking with the battle of wills, Cecil stuttered out the word, "L . . . Life!" A tiny angel floated down through the ceiling and lighted on Cecil's head, yellow light flashing from its wings. Then Cecil was flung to the floor as Wrexsoul left his body, flying across the room with a scream. Gasping for breath, Cecil sat up. He could barely hold his sword up in a parry against another rush by Wrexsoul as it flew back at him, and he knew he wouldn't be able to deflect this attack. Gritting his teeth and closing his eyes, he prepared for the worst. . . . But it never came.
A huge roar filled the hall, and then a piercing shriek of terror from Wrexsoul. Cecil opened his eyes to see Bahamut standing in front of him, a huge ball of energy building in front of it's mouth. He was just in time to see it's attack blaze down at Wrexsoul in a huge blast of energy, Bahamut's Sun Flare. Wrexsoul shrieked again in pure agony as it was blasted against the throne and held there by the huge beam.
Struggling to his feet, he stood beside Bahamut and raised his sword to eye level. Summoning up his last ounce of strength, Cecil sighted along the blade and concentrated. The Light Wave slashed out from the Crystal Sword, slamming into the pinned Wrexsoul. The monster shrieked one last time and was then cut short as the light washed over, around, and through it, completely destroying the monster as it faded into oblivion.
Gasping, Cecil fell to the ground in exhaustion, the Crystal Sword ringing as it hit the stones of the floor. Lying flat on his back, he fought to keep from passing out. Beside him, Bahamut snorted, stretched its wings as much as it could in the hall, and returned to its Magicite shard.
"Arise . . . my son," came a voice from what semmed to be out of nowhere. Cecil, still gasping for breath, raised his hand to shade his eyes. A bright light was eminating from the throne, and the voice spoke again. "And claim your prize."
"My . . . son?" Cecil sat up into a crouch, fight off a wave of dizziness and trying to look up at the light as it started to fade. "Wait . . . don't go!" But the light was already a mere speck, shining on the seat of the throne. Out of it appeared another Magicite shard, containing the Esper Alexander. It rose up from the crystal and filled the room to the ceiling.
It shown with a brilliance of indescribable beauty, towering above Cecil in its splendor before returning to its Magicite shard. Cecil stood up, his strength seeming to have returned instantly with the fading of the light. He picked up the Magicite shard and stowed it carefully with the Bahamut shard. He now had two Espers in his possesion; maybe he could win this challenge after all.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Back on the Ragnarok, having been picked up by Cid, Cecil sat in one of the chairs besides the pilot's seat. "I'll go to Solitary Island next," he was saying, his next target being Palidor.
A pause. Then Cid answered, "Okay, off we go." Cid still remembered his experience on that island. It had been a long year of lonely solitude, his only companion the comatose Celes. Flying southwest, they arrived at the island shortly, and Cecil disembarked. He was on a small beach, just as barren as the one he had landed on after defeating Doom Gaze. Only this time, there was a shining shard of crystal in the sands. . . .
NOTE:When Cid drops me off in this post, it's inbetween the time he is dropping Des' off and picking him up, and when he picks me up and the end, it's after he drops Des' off once again.^^() Thought I would clarify that.
After leaving the house, and town of Jidoor, Rinoa was picked up by Cid outside, ready to be taken to her next distination.
So, where would you like to go Miss Rinoa?
Well..I was thinking maybe..the Yeti Cave in Narshe.
The best I can do is drop you off at the Narshe mines, you'll have to find the cave yourself. Anyways, if you're sure that's where you want to go, then let's get on with it!
Suddenly, the ship took a jump off the ground, rose in the air, and sped off towards the northeast.
~Narshe~
Cid had dropped Rinoa off at the snowy town of Narshe, near the hidden mines lying behind the town.
I guess...this is where the Yeti cave is...better hurry.
Rinoa trudged through the deep snow, lucky enough to have borrowed an extra coat from Cid, though it didn't help as much as she would have liked.
She reached an entrance to the mines, and wandered off inside, hoping to find the Yeti's Cave soon enough.
~The Mines and Yeti's Cave~
Rinoa strayed through the damp mines, eyeing many interesting things as she went, but none a Magicite Crystal..
Mmmm....Who there..?
What..who..I mean, my name is Rinoa...who are you?
Rinoa glanced around the cave, watching out for whoever, or whatever this voice came from.
A large figure suddenly stepped out from behind a wall of rocks, covered in white thick fur, and about 6'10.
I Umaro the Sasquatch...who you, and why you, pretty girl, in Umaro cave?
My name is Rinoa..
Rinoa stepped forward, approaching Umaro cautiously.
..and I'm here looking for a Magicite Crystal...do you know where it is?
Umaro turned around, crossing his giant muscular arms, almost like a pouting child.
Umaro know where it is, but why should Umaro tell Rinoa?
Because..
Rinoa reached up high, putting her hand on Umaro's shoulder
..because I need to know, I need the Esper within the Crystal, I need it's assistance, and I would be forever thankful if you would guide me to it...please?
Umaro struggled a moment, thinking as hard as a Sasquatch possibly could. He wanted to help, but he also didn't want to lose his precious orb.
Alright...since Rinoa so nice about it, Umaro help..
Oh THANKYOU Umaro, you won't regret this, I promise!
Umaro guided Rinoa through the catacombs of the mines, eventually leading her to a stone carving, sitting alone in a small room.
Here, orb be over there, take..
Thankyou Umaro..I've very grateful.
Umaro once again crossed his arms, to show that he was pouting, and Rinoa simply smiled gently, and walked over to the stone carving.
She reached for the crystal, but a challenge arose before she could take it. Numerous small, but dangerous monsters lunged out of the wall at Rinoa, who was just barely pushed out of the way by her yeti friend.
Umaro yelled, sending a large echo throughout the cave, and causing the monsters to jump back off of him.
After his large scream though, the monsters started to surround him quickly, ready to attack again. But before they could lunge, a light glimmered from Rinoa's hand, and Odin flew out of an energy hole, striking each monster once, cutting them to pieces.
Are you ok Umaro?
Rinoa ran over to him, as he slumped over, holding his arm.
Monsters hurt Umaro, but did they hurt Rinoa?
Only a few scratches, they would have hurt me much more if you hadn't saved me..thankyou once again, Umaro.
Umaro smiled for the first time, no longer pouting or angry.
Here..let me heal us, it'll be easy.
Rinoa held up a different Magicite Crystal, a yellow one, Starlet, whom she summoned to cast "Group Hug," healing both Umaro and herself.
Thankyou, Rinoa. You help Umaro.
Because you helped me..
Rinoa sent a gentle look at Umaro, then walked once again over to the stone carving, which appeared to be a snake holding the crystal in it's mouth.
Rinoa carefully removed the Magicite Crystal from it's place, and once removed, it started to glow a green/yellow color.
Suddenly, there was a flash of green light, and then...a large snakelike Esper emerged from the crystal.
Terrato..the Esper..of the Earth and Winds?
The snake-like creature nodded and blinked towards Rinoa, sent friendly hiss at her, then faded away back into the crystal.
Rinoa grasped the Magicite in her hand, then slipped it in her pocket.
After leading Rinoa out of the cave, Umaro gave her a large "Yeti" hug, then they said their goodbyes, and Rinoa waited out in the snow for Cid.
A day later found Auron riding Lru the Golden Chocobo (borrowed from the Airship) to Solitary Island Beach.
Auron slid from the large bird's back and gazed about him for anything suspicious. "Cecil would like this Esper--Palidor sounds like Paladin."
Lru kwehed.
"Perhaps that is what it looks like--will you help me look?"
"KWEH!"
Lru was instantly scratching at the sandy earth, looking for all the world like an overgrown chick digging for worms. Auron chuckled, then did likewise with his boots, refusing to tarnish the Masamune.
The first sign that something was amiss happened when Auron began to float. One moment he was kicking sand, then next he was kicking the air just above it. Lru warked in shock and flew to his height (which was steadily growing higher) and tugged him back down with her large beak.
They stood very still for a moment, waiting for anything odd to happen. When nothing did, the pair went back to digging, more cautiously this time.
When Auron began to defy gravity again, Lru squawked loudly. She wasn't used to him possessing flying abilites, and as such, she yanked him back down roughly, placing a large taloned foot in the middle of his back to keep him in place. If it weren't for his large collar, Auron would have been spitting sand.
Not that it mattered--he was floating almost immediately again. Lru screeched in impatient bewilderment and kicked furiously at the sand. The rainbow magicite glittered as it was exposed to the sunlight. Once it hit the sand, Auron did too--rather hard.
As he rubbed his aching backside, Auron could almost swear he heard giggling. If not for the majestic nature of the Phoenix, he would almost swear it was the Life Bird, but the ruby Magicite sat silently in his sleeve.
Auron reached out for the stone, walking quickly. It took him all of a full three seconds to realize he was 5oo yards away from the beach. He had overshot his mark by being fast, a new concept to him. Auron was never known for being a quick person. He turned back to the beach, walking slowly, but still hitting the ocean water before being able to slow himself down.
The rainbow magicite winked at him and he reached for it.
Reached...so...very...slow...ly...
With an angry Kweh, Lru dove at the stone, pecking at it. In an explosion of irridescent feathers, Palidor appeared.
"Esper!" Auron called, trying to control his own building temper
Palidor sang back at him.
"Would you consider going with me?"
Palidor giggled again, flew about him, brushing one wing, then the other against him. Auron was floating again, then tumbled about quickly, then slowly. When the Esper satisfied its curiousity, it let Auron down gently, then disappeared back into the Magicite.
Auron breathed a sigh of relief. "I didn't expect the Esper to be so...playful."
Lru warked cheerfully as the Crimson Warrior climbed on her back.
"Now off to Mobliz. It may take a while but I--!"
Auron's words were lost as Lru took on an unexpected burst of speed. Palidor chuckled to itself from Auron's sleeve as the Chocobo tore across the water, leaving behind a large white spray. They would be in Mobliz in no time.
After waiting almost half an hour, Rinoa decided Cid was obviously going to be late, and she might as well make use of the time she had in Narshe.
I guess I could climb up the cliffs here and get Tritoch?if I can survive long enough to make it up.
Rinoa stood up slowly, shivering underneath the coat. She walked along through the snow for a bit, until spotting a trail that seemed to lead up the cliffs.
Perfect, that will make is MUCH easier!
Rinoa hastily trudged through the snow to the trail, which she reached rather easily. The trail was much clearer then the surrounding land, so it was quite easy to make it to the top.
Eventually, near the cliff edge, she reached an end to the trail. It turned out she would have to climb the rest of the way.
Darnit?this just makes it MUCH harder..
Rinoa grabbed onto an outreaching rock, and pulled herself up onto the side of the cliff. Balancing herself cautiously, she started to climb. She selected each foothold and grasp hold(?) carefully, making sure none were loose.
Gah?umph?this isn?t?quite as hard as I thought it would be, but I wish this stupid cliff?would end soon.
As if she predicted the future, Rinoa reached the top soon after she commented. She pulled herself onto the cliff ledge, lying down right afterwards in the snow.
Finally, that was getting tiring. Now?to find Tritoch.
~The Top of the Cliff~
It was snowing fairly lightly on the top of the cliff, but just enough to block the vision a small ways. Rinoa wandered across the cliff, squinting her eyes to help her see any signs of?anything but snow and sky.
After wandering for a while, Rinoa finally spotted a large block of ice, with what seemed to be a creature of some sort frozen within. It overlooked a large trench, and seemed to be quite alive, though completely frozen.
Rinoa approached it slowly, squinting her eyes still, trying to make out what it was. Suddenly, small shards of ice flew out of it, straight at Rinoa. The snow on the ground was too thick to let her lift her feet and roll away, and the ice was coming in quickly. Before she could scream, before the ice hit, before anything else could possibly happen, a large shield surrounded her, coming out of the pocket.
Zoneseek had saved her from within it?s Magicite Crystal. It had sensed the danger and put up a shield to protect her.
Zoneseek?th..thank you! Espers really are handy!
Quickly, Rinoa glanced at the frozen creature, which she could see now, turned out to be the frozen Esper, Tritoch!
Guess I?ve got to defeat you to get you eh? Well, I?ll do my best! I?m going to guess it?s weak against fire?considering it?s surrounded in ice?alrighty then, here I go!
With her shield weakening, but still surrounding her, she rushed through the snow towards the large block of ice. Once she got in range, she pulled back the sling to her weapon, and shot it right at the Esper, lodging it in the ice, but still able to damage it.
There goes my physical attacks?time to start the magic! I?ve still got a few Firagas left, hopefully enough to defeat this thing..
Rinoa stopped running, and began to cast her spell. FIRAGA! The blazing inferno flew out if her hands straight into the icy prison surrounding Tritoch, melting away a fair part of it.
The Esper was crying, Rinoa could hear it, and she knew she had to free it. Ice shards flew out of the ice once again, aiming right for her. Rinoa?s shield was running low, so though it stopped most of the ice, some got through, slicing away at her arms.
Blood seeped through the coat in the area of the deep cuts, and Rinoa felt like crying from the pain. She held back though, knowing still she HAD to stop this.
Don?t worry?you?ll be free soon Tritoch! You just wait!
Rinoa cast Triple upon herself, hoping to make things easier. She cast Firaga at Tritoch, which, with the Triples? help, hit it three times.
The ice surrounding started to melt away, and Rinoa?s weapon fell free to the ground. Quickly, she raced towards Tritoch, finally rolling to the ground and grasping her weapon. Now underneath the Esper, she hooked on her Blaster Edge, pulled the sling back, and shot it straight into the remaining ice. The freezing armour cracked away, and Tritoch was free.
It spread it?s wings out into the air, and took off in flight. It glided around the cliff once, then landed in front of Rinoa, sending her a noble and thankful look.
Tritoch?I..
Before she could finish, the giant Griffin-like Esper shined with blinding light, and formed into a small, multicolored Magicite Crystal.
"Nothing quite like a good rip roaring battle to test your new abilities, eh, Lru?"
The Golden Chocobo warked back at him as they slowed down and slid into the town of Mobliz.
A tiny group of black dogs bayed mournfully at their arrival, but posed no threat. They looked sad, thin, and lost... Auron gazed about the town, noticing that, it too, looked sad, thin, and lost...almost like a ghost town.
Auron tethered Lru to a rotting post and walked into a building that looked as if it would collapse at any moment. He knocked warily at the door, and part of the roof fell in with a dusty cough. Lru warked nervously, pulling at her tether.
"Hello? Anyone home?"
The building groaned again. Auron risked a last look...and risked too much.
The building creaked wearily, then collapsed inward.
Lru screeched. But not because Auron was dead now. But because something very very ugly was stalking toward her. Horns everywhere, a nasty jaw full of teeth, and--
"MrrrRAWWWWWWHHH!"
A pretty loud voice screaming hunger. And Lru was tied up.
She screeched again.
Burning.
Hot, burning, put out the flame.
Auron coughed, struggled, tried to make his body move in any way that would put the fire out. The stones jostled in his sleeve, clinking against each other. Palidor fought to be free, bursting from Auron's sleeve and throwing off a large chunk of fallen building debris (sp?) as it flew into the air.
Lru screeched as Phunbaba reached for her tether; this caught Palidor's attention and with a desperate titter, it flew about Phunbaba, slowing the monster down.
Lru tore at her harness and clammered to the fallen building, scratching broken wood away from Auron and warking in terror to him. The Crimson Warrior groaned, rolled over, coughed dust and dirt, groaned again. Lru nudged him roughly and Auron nearly slapped at her.
Phunbaba roared and charged at Lru, furious that he was making very little headway due to Palidor's effect.
"Phoenix!" Auron rasped. The rainbow burst of fire signaled the bird was there; it was quick to blast fire at Phunbaba and the monster roared in pain, swiping at the bird.
Seraphim appeared unbidden, helping Auron up and ministering to his wounds. Her fluttering wings hoisted him up and helped him with his balance.
"I can heal...but perhaps you should hurt...in defense of what you are doing..."
"And the best mark of a warrior is to be strategic. BIO!"
Phunbaba gurgled in agony as he was lost in a misty fog of grotesque green. He lashed his scaly tail about, looking quite sick.
Palidor infused Auron with Haste, and he stood up, holding his Masamune out. Concentrating deeply, he began to spin, faster and faster with the help of Palidor.
"If you can't stand the heat..."
Palidor fanned at the Tornado that Auron charged up, making it larger than he had ever seen before. Auron unhooked his sake bottle, glanced at it, then hurled the bottle into the tornado, where it broke open on contact. The Phoenix breathed onto the flammable liquid, adding even more power to the already awesome Overdrive.
"...then get out of Mobliz."
With a grunt and a gurgle, Phunbaba threw his head back, then hit the ground hard. The monster was extra crispy...and extra dead.
Out of his grasp a dark green magicite spun. Auron bent to pick it up.
"Esper?"
A haunting howl whistled through the air. Auron looked for the sad dogs he had seen earlier, but instead saw a fleeting glimpse of a large, powerful creature. The still, charred body of Phunbaba slowly shifted as it disappeared into a portal of nothing. The haunting howl again.
"Welcome to the team...Fenrir." He clutched the gem tightly, putting it with the rest of the stones. "I wonder if this is what Yuna and Braska felt when they summoned..."
You got the
FENRIR!
This Esper can open a portal into nothingness and cast his enemies there.
OoC: Auron didn't really die--Lru just thought he did. Just FYI. ^_~
After having Tritoch carry her down the cliff, Rinoa decided to NOT wait for Cid, and simply fly off to get one more Esper.
Let?s see, I could go for an easy one?.Golem will do nicely! I?ll just have to earn some money..Alright Tritoch, off to Jidoor!
Once Rinoa directed Tritoch the correct way, it took off in a burst of speed towards the town.
~Jidoor~
After a few minutes of flying at mach speed (or so it seemed), they arrived at Jidoor, where Tritoch landed carefully, letting Rinoa slip off on it?s wing.
Once off, Rinoa called Tritoch back into the crystal, then strayed off into town.
Now?what kind of job can I get that will get me enough money to buy an Esper in one night?
After a while of boring walking through the town, Rinoa spotted a sign, ?Waitress Needed, high pay!?
Wow..what luck!
Rinoa cheered and rushed off into the?pub.
Hey there hot stuuufff?whatsa lady like yous doing hereeee?
Shove your foot in your mouth and shut it. (Rinoa isn?t too great at insults)
Rinoa approached the counter, seeing an old burly man cleaning a glass.
Excuse me sir, but I?m looking for a job?and I see you?ve got one open, yes?
Yup, and you?re hired.
..R..Really? No tests or anything? Just like that?
Yup, now put on that apron over there and get to work, you deliver the food to the tables.
Right?
Rinoa sighed, walked over to what appeared to be a coat hanger, and snatched the apron, slipping it on quickly.
YO! Order up, table 9!
Ok..here I go.
Rinoa ran over to the counter, lifting a tray of strange looking food, then glancing around the pub for ?Table 9.?
Spotting a table with a IX carved in it, and some scampi looking men sitting at it, she was reluctant to go.
Hurry it up hotcakes!
What..WHAT DID YOU SAY!?
Rinoa took a deep breath, trying not to get mad, for fear she might lose her newly acquired job. She let out her breath slowly, put on a smile, and paced over to the table, dropping the food on the table with a ?thump?
~Two Hours Later~
Sir..
Rinoa walked over to the counter, and the old looking owner.
Would it?be alright if I received my paycheck now?
The owner turned and looked at Rinoa for a moment, then smiled, showing his gritty yellow teeth. He reached into the register, and took out a large bundle of Gil.
Rinoa noticed quite a few empty, uncleaned glasses of bear on the counter, and noticed the owner?s breath smelt of alcohol. He was obviously drunk, but it worked for her. She took the large wad in her hand, and held it tightly, just to make sure it wasn?t stolen.
Thankyou Sir?I?m very grateful, and now I think I?ll be quiting. Thanks again!
The owner?s face suddenly had a very blunt look, as Rinoa tossed her apron onto his head and ran off out the door. Finally, some Gil again!
She raced off to the auction house, hoping to have enough to get yet another Esper?Golem!
~Skipping ahead after Rinoa arrived at the auction and it progressed a bit~
Next up, a wonderous orb of amazing power! It is unknown what it truly is, but scholars say it?s priceless! What do I hear as starting?500!?
600!
800!
I think I?ll wait a while to bid?let these two rise it up..
~After ?These Two? rose the price a bit (about 10 mins later)~
2000!
2500!
Time to jump in?3000!
There was silence, and then the two other auctioneers stormed out of the building.
3000, I hear 3000, any higher? Bid now! Any higher, anyone at all?
Silence once again?
SOLD FOR 3000!
YES!
Rinoa sprinted straight up to the Auction desk and claimed her prize in exchange for 3000 Gil. After receiving her new Magicite Crystal, she ran straight out of the building, out of the town of Jidoor, and stood in the field.
Just then, her Magicite Crystal began to glow a golden color, and energy shot out of it towards the ground. Out of the ground emerged a large, machine-like Esper, Golem!
There?s one more for me?and I think this is all I?m going to get..that?s enough running around.
Once she finished speaking, Golem waved kindly to her, and jumped right back into the Magicite Crystal from which it came. Rinoa simply smiled, and waited for Cid once more.
Walking up to the shining stone, Cecil picked it up. . . . "What!" It was nothing more than a piece of quartz, glistening from the ocean spray. He dropped the stone and looked about the beach. A ways off was a large hole in the sand and Chocobo tracks mixed with boot prints. "Auron," he said, and stalked over to the hole. Sure enough, the Magicite had been taken, and he was too late.
"That's too bad," Cid said, back on the Ragnarok.
With an exasperated sigh, Cecil said, "Well, just take me to Narshe. I'll try for Ragnarok then."
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Arriving at Narshe, Cecil stalked up to the town through the thick white snow. It seemed more like solid ice than snow, and he shivered in the cold. He wondered where to find this old man that was supposed to have the Esper. Wandering among the buildings, he tried a few doors, but all that he came across were locked. Wondering what was up with this town, he finally just kicked in one of the doors. It fell clean off its hinges and landed on the floor of the building with a thud.
He happened to glance down at the doornob as he walked over the door; it was unlocked. Oops, he thought with a sheepish grin. There didn't seem to be much there, though; only a couple chairs and a counter. It looked like a weapons ship.
"Can I help you?"
Cecil whirled around, startled, to look at the old man that seemed to have appeared out of thin air behind the counter. "What?!"
"Can I help you?" the old man repeated.
This must be him, Cecil thought, smiling. "Um, yes, I'm looking for the Esper Ragnarok. I was told that you have it."
"Esper? Why, I haven't heard that word in a long time. That takes me back to when I was just a young'un, eager to learn about the legend of magic and the War of the Magi. I remember one day. . . ." The old man trailed off, and then started to snore louder than anything Cecil had ever heard. Bahamut's roar was nothing compared to this.
"Make it stop!" Cecil yelled, holding his hands over his ears.
Waking up with a start, the old man said, "Wha? Huh? Where am I? Who are you?"
With a sigh, Cecil shook his head. "My name is Cecil. I'm looking for a Magicite shard and I heard you have it." He decided to avoid the word "Esper" this time.
"Magicite? Why, I haven't--"
"I know! You told me about when you were young just two minutes ago before you fell alseep. I just want the Magicite." Cecil was becoming just a little bit annoyed at having lost Palidor and now having to deal with this. He almost prefered the fights with Doom Gaze and Wrexsoul.
"Fell asleep? I don't just fall asl. . . ." Again, the old man nodded off.
"Wake up!" Cecil yelled before the man could start snoring again.
"What? Who are you?"
A long, resigned sigh, and then another try. "My name is Cecil. I'm looking for a shiny rock that glows."
"Oh, well why didn't you say so? I've got one down in the basement." With a sigh of relief, Cecil followed the man downstairs into a dark, musty room. Crates and boxes were piled high all along the walls, and off in a corner was a bed. The old man hobbled over to it and reached underneath, pulling out a small wooden box. He walked slowly back over to Cecil and opened the lid revealing the Ragnarok Magicite. It glowed a bright red, and Cecil reached out to lift it from the box when the old man snapped the lid back on.
"You didn't think I'd just let you have it, did you?"
"Well, uh, yes; I did."
"This stone right here is my most prized possession! I reckon it'd make a mighty fine sword if it were melted down and forged."
Cecil couldn't believe this. He was not going to let this crazy old man destroy the Magicite and deprive him of another Esper. "You want to destroy the Esper inside the Magicite?" He all but screamed the words.
"Calm down. . . . I reckon there'll still be some power left in that there stone after it's been forged."
"But . . . but. . . . But I need that Magicite!"
"Hmm, maybe you do, maybe you don't. What'll ya trade me, sonny? Maybe your sword for the Magicite? That also looks like a mighty fine sword."
"No. Out of the question." Cecil was not about to give up his Crystal Sword. He had had to kill a Wyvern to get it, barely avoiding fiery death from its many Mega Flare attacks.
"Come on, now. I bet you don't even know how to use a blade like that to it's full ability."
Cecil had to restrain himself now. The man was really, really starting to get on his nerves. "Don't tempt me, old man."
"Well, what else have you. . . ." He fell asleep again, though thankfully he didn't snore this time.
Glancing about the room, Cecil spotted a beautiful sword. It hand a blue hilt, a guard almost like a "w," and the blade widened after about an inch, where a strange triangle symbol was engraved on it. Picking it up, he held it in one hand and shook the man with the other.
"What? Hmm?"
"I won't trade you my Crystal Sword, but I'll trade you this," Cecil said as he held up the blue-hilted sword.
"Ooo, that's quite a nice one. It's a deal!" He handed Cecil the box, and Cecil handed him the sword. "Pleasure doing business with you."
"Uh . . . same to you." Depositing his other two Magicite into the box along with Ragnarok, Cecil hurried out of the building and back to the entrance of Narshe. He hoped to be far away by the time the old man realized he no longer had a front door.
As he walked through the streets, he heard a howl; wolves were about. And there they were, rounding a corner and coming straight at Cecil. It was a whole pack, and it would be a bloody fight with Cecil by himself. He tucked the small box into his belt and drew his sword, about to cast Haste. . . . And then the Ragnarok Magicite leapt from the box into the snow at his feet, shining bright. Then out of nowhere, a giant sword crashed straight down through the lead wolf.
Shining bright red, a huge explosion of fire ripped out from the blade, instantly vaporizing the wolf pack and a good deal of the surrounding snow.
"Woah. . . ." Cecil said, staring at the Esper. The blade glinted in what Cecil could have sworn was a sort of wink, before the Esper returned to it's Magicite shard. "Woah," Cecil repeated. "Now that's my kind of summon monster."
Just then, the Ragnarok airship flew down to make a landing in the snow crater caused by the Esper's Flare spell. Cecil boarded, after collecting the Ragnarok Magicite and returning it to it's box with the others. It had been a tedious, annoying process, but he finally had three Espers.
Cecil staggered into the Airship and glanced at the occupants already there. Auron hid a smirk inside his collar, holding up a hand with four fingers. Lru chortled, proud of their accomplishments.
"Four? You got FOUR?! Oh...right...Palidor."
Auron winced. "Don't remind me." Something giggled within his sleeve and Cecil stared, popeyed.
"Did your sleeve just--"
"I don't want to talk about it."
Rinoa giggled, and when Cecil looked at her, she waved. Six magicites dangled from her wrist. Cecil just about jumped out the airship again he was so--
"I must have knocked Zell...'s cutout over?" Auron peered at the flat picture. "What in the name of..."
"Wait a minute...if Zell's cutout is here--" As Rinoa bent down, her bottom bumped into the Zidane cardboard cutout. "OOO! Even his stand in gets fresh with me!" Angry, she slapped the cutout and it fell over, Zidane's happy grin still plastered over it.
"So where have Zidane and Zell been all this time?"
Somewhere at Figaro Castle...
