Racism

I haven't been through as much as some of you guys did, but I understand how it feels to be discriminated.

Some people in our school only hangs out with White people, and some only has groups of Asian friends. So, I guess that's why there are groups and groups of separation between ethnicities. We have a lot of African American students in our school, and they would always boss people around and ask them for money. Not all of them do, but some even takes people's money. And a few students that looked geeky, get pushed off the line.

I feel sorry for them, but I can't do anything...

Racism isn't illegal. Racism means that one has a prejudice against a certain race.... Which is existant in much of the world. Acting on that racism in certain forms is illegal..

I don't understand racism. Well I do, but I don't get how anyone can take it so serious to the point they LOATHE and kill people over it.

Racism comes from stereotypes... and I think stereotypes are funny. Alot of em are true, but funny. I see something funny in 'em, not something hateful.

I dare you to go up to an Asian person and call them "Oriental." That is so un-PC that you might as well call them "Slanty Eyes," "Sandal-Wearers" or "Rice-Eaters". Not to mention it's bad tact to put your "friend" in the spot light and call him rascist.

Rascism is a horrible thing, but like so many people have said, it isn't something that can just be whiped away. Some people are just destined to thing they are better than others based on the way they were born, and it isn't just race; it could be financial institution, intelligence or athletic ability. It's human nature.

WHITE POWER! WHITE POWER!

*cough* erm, jk.

Now, racism is not illegal. If I chose not to like, say, Asains, it is not illegal. I saw a show on the history channel last night about the Nazi Socialist Movement in America. If racism was illegal, this organization would be illegal and thus shutdown by the police.

I personally think racist people are funny, white power and nazi sites just make me laugh. They are so stupid that I can't help cracking up. These people are evil, but they are also funny.

racism doesnt care about blood ties.....
what i mean by that is my grandfather is a stupid hick. when i was little (5, 6, 7, 8, 9 grade) he would always tell me my whole family was going to burn in h#@@ because we werent christians (he was also talking about his only daughter, my mom, because she changed religions when she got older ) he doesnt go to church, he drinks beer, blah blah blah (he isnt perfect, trust me) when 9/11 happend, he kept acting like my family agreed with idiot asamu, when we dont believe in any of his views.
when 9/11 happend, i got stupid retard kids asking me at school if i had a bomb making factory in my basement (we dont have a basement!) and if my family trafficked drugs, to raise money for terrorism. for the first two weeks, i kept saying no...but, i got sick of answering the same questions over and over agian (or just ignoring them, which really didnt work) so i said yeah, we do all that stuff. they were interested in buying the drugs (well, that should tell you what kinda people i am dealing with -.-) recently, before i went on my senior trip, there were stupid people telling me that if the plane was hijacked, they were going to tie me down......isnt my school great? -.-
its things like this that make me so ashamed to be human........:bawl:

Sadly, that's what many religions preach. It's engrained in the church, and it's lucky to find Christians who don't bring up the hell issue often to remind you that you can't go to heaven, bleh. Tell me once then be quiet :p

[I'm in a sour mood right now, so this all may come out wrong...]

I was once called a racist because I stated that "Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason." I see a lot of truth in that statement, and I think it's silly to lable me racist for saying something such as that. If people can get past their own hate toward discrimination by race/gender/religion, then they'll look more intelligently and open mindedly into the matter and examine its roots. It's not being a bigot, it's being investiagtory.

I'm often taken as any race besides many generations "American". I have big brown eyes, dark hair, olive skin...and for some reason people feel the need to ask me, "What ARE you?"

In fact, many people assume me to be Hispanic even though I'm missing several key traits that run in the Hispanic bloodline. But before I moved to Southern California, I was mistaken for Aisan [don't you see that my eyes are already twice the size of the average Americans'?!], and often Arabic.

I guess I can't be too annoyed by all of these mistakes on my ethnicity, it gives every day life a little more flavor when people constantly ask, "What ARE you?", lol. I suppose I should just always reply, "A boring Midwestern girl from farm country."

Yes, that would be fun.

And so ends the satire; what a day :)

ic ic. so you were one of the people that had major effects to 9/11. i am asian, and tho i will never feel that same pain you did, i can understand how it felt. my skool is very mixed with different races and cultures. buddhist, muslim, christian, hindu, hispanic, causcasian, asian, african, regardless of culture or religion, views and outlook, we're all the same thing.

human

i dont understand why ppl have to be superior to one another. ive been called rice eater, ***** (i aint chinese, im flip, get it rite), dog eater, fob, and countless other words which arent suitable for me to say. and to every one of those names, i replied the same thing

......

oh, wait? im suppose to reply to those name? like heck i wil.. maybe when heck starts to snow and everything turns opposite, maybe i will. but not now, not in this lifetime. racism is stupid, racists are dumb, and ppl like that dont deserve my attention, even for a split second.

I hate racism, and I find it a miracle that I'm not a racist myself. I live in Richardson Texas, and the community here is about 30% White, 40% Mexican, 20% Black, and 10% anything else. Sadly, the majority of the Mexicans and Blacks near me are all into the "gangsta" crap, and are complete asses to everyone who isn't "ghetto". There are friendly one's that I have no problem with, but I'm afraid if I hadn't met them, my hatred at the others would carry over into complete racism, and I would become one of the "pure" white kids at my school. I hate when the whites say they're better than other races, and I hate it when the "gangstas" call everyone rascist when they are in fact also rascist. I hate when anyone does that; the ultra-femenists saying men and penises are evil oppressors, the ultra-gays saying everyone hates them, and any lazy morons who belongs to any race other than white saying they deserve a job because they're minorities. Men and women are equal on every aspect, the same as straights and gays, whites and minorities. Everyone is equal on every conceivable aspect, and and shallow, close-minded bigots should start accepting that.

The other day in science, we were doing this 'Lego Lab' and three other people were in my group. We were basically talking and laughing etc. when something made me say that I heard the pope was marrying gay people together. And just after I said it, a chorus of "ew..." erupted from two of the three people I was working with. And with that, a nasty argument ensued. I told them I was Athiest and a girl said I was going to burn in Hell for all eternity and kept on insisting me to answer the question, "Where are you going to go after you die?". Which I answered over and over, "When we die, I think we die and the earth decomposes us."

And I absolutely hate it when everyone thinks I should be super-smart since I'm Asian. Now, I'm not saying I'm stupid [I'm in top classes, mind you], but a lot of people expect Asians to get perfect 100s on everything. Or at least something similiar to that. It ticks me off...badly.

I guess there's not too much racism in Alpharetta, it's mostly a quiet suburb. But I've been subjected to racism, anyway. Asians are a tiny, tiny minority in where we live. I think there's five asians in the eigth grade. Workers at supermarkets will go through our food sloppily, and that can go for any other worker at any other place. I remeber saying "excuse me" to a lady in Kroger, and she hesitatnly moved and muttered, "those damn Chinese..."
Which sort of got me angry for obvious reasons, and the fact that I'm not Chinese.

I live in Alpharetta too and I must say this place is better than the ones I was in before.
When I first came to Michigan, I hung out with my neighbor for a while and soon she didn't want to be friends with me anymore. She didn't say anything bad, but rascism was in there.

Then at another school, this group of kids start rumors about me and this girl keeps harrassing me.
Due to this, I usually keep very quite and the fact that I don't talk makes people think I'm rude. But yeah, I'm doing much better in Alpharetta.^-^. I have 2 Mexican friends, one French and one African American. They are all very nice and we try to learn more about eachother's cultures. It's quite interesting.

I'm not too worried about religion. People who I've told that I'm Hindu don't seem to mind. In fact, they wanna learn more. People should be like that.

i live in Miami which is just a big mix of races and yet racism exist here to the very core. it doesn't make sense, cubans talk crap about puerto ricans and african americans are insulted when called hatians. i am Nicaraguan and all my life i have been called India, Tira Flecha, and a whole mess of other racial slurs that are given to my race because i look native american. in elementary though, it was predominately black, and i used to get beat up because i was the little "white" girl. my brother's were gangsters and i believe they are rascist toward white ppl, my mom is a racsist toward anything and everything that is not her, she even calls me names. there was this black kid who had a crush on me, he used to come over to my house and we used to talk and when my mom saw him she went ballistic, she told me she didn't ever want to see me with him, she had enough with a puerto rican in the family (my sister's b/f). and now i live with this cousin of mine who i hate, he's always asking me, aren't black ppl so vulgar and all this **** and i've told him more than once to shut his ******* trap, he isn't exactly the classiest mother here anyway. rascism to me is a ton of bull ****, i am proud of my race and whatever any person says to try to demean me they can shove up their ***. i won't let myself get bound by color barriers and what not, i really don't give a ****, as long as you can come up with decent conversation, you're ok with me.

I was born and raised right in the middle of the traditional South. Racism is something I've always dealt with.

The way I see it, God offers the same gift to everyone. What's good enough for Him is good enough for me. I don't tend to judge very much by skin color. I try not to at all, but my upbringing is tainted with that--in spite of my dad's best efforts.

To Crimson Spider on pg 2, and The Original on pg 3, Most of what you said, I can believe. And it's like reverse racism, or something. I remember a topic started by Jenna on another forum, and that's what the title was. And she pointed out that Chris Rock (I believe he's African American) doesn't get called racist for his White jokes, but any white comedian saying the same about black would IMMEDIATELY be labled racist. Weird.

Bleh. I don't want to go back to school because of so much stupid racism against Asians. I posted something about it in a old thread at http://otakuboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28636&perpage=15&pagenumber=2 and it's psot number three on page 2.

To lea2385, I don't know if you're Muslim, but you sound like you are and that kids make fun of you for it. A boy in the grade above me was made fun of after 9/11 because kids were teasing him about blowing up the WTC, and I heard girls talking in the bathroom, saying they felt sorry for him, because there was also a comic drawn of him in a plane next to the WTC. That's awful, you know?

Many of you have said that because of your views on whatever (That maybe you're not Christian), you're been told that you'll go to hell for it or whatever. I'd like you to know that TRUE Christians would NEVER say such a thing to you, because it's not true. Please don't judge every Christian religion on what they said to you, because they're A) wrong, and B) many Christian religions, even between Prodestant and Catholic, are quite different. For example, there's that whole big issue ensuing in the Prodestant Episcipalian Chruch about that gay priest, whereas, in the Catholic Church, my Mom (Miss devout IRISH, yes, I.R.I.S.H. Catholic and Miss I-was-forced-to-go-to-catholic-school-for-9-years) told me that in the Catholic Church, it's not SUPPOSED (I'm sure there's stupid wackos out there anyways) to matter. What matters is your love of God. SO EVERYONE, PLEAS DON'T THINK ALL CATHOLICS ARE EVIL! >_> v_v

Maladjusted: Towards your comment about the sterotypical smart Asian, I always find it amusing how people can think that. In a chat one time, I was messin' around with an Asian classmate of mine, telling him "So you're gonna be valedictorian, go to an ivy league college to be a doctor or a lawyer, right? That's what everyone expects." and I gave him a winking face. (^_~) And he laughed, because he understood the stereotype.

I'm not sure what you mean by investiagatory. whether you mean to investiagate the root of rascism, or if you mean to investiate a particular ethenic group. Whatever it is, it's still interesting to investigate stuff. Like, FOR EXAMPLE, my mom told me that in the Oriental part of Asia (the stuff that's NOT the middle east, Asia minor or India), the farther you go north, the slantier the eyes are, and that inuit eyes are quiet slit like, and it was simply for survival reasons; to keep out the snow. And the farther you go north, the higher the cheekbones are, for the same reason, to push into the eys to keep out snow. I dunno, I find the roots of many things very interesting. ^^;;; Either way, you're right it's still investigatory, and not racists at all.

Oh, one last thing to say about something Crimson Spider said on pg 2. Your'e right, there's only one race: the human race. The Genus species (Scientific classification) for us all is Homo sapien. Lea said she was ashamed to be human because of all the things people do to eachother, and I think Mei's AOL profile (You can only see it if you've got AOL) used to say somewhere in there "You have no idea how depressing it is to realize that we're all one species". A friend of mine (Lumi)'s dad once asked her, that if we only had one sense out of the five, would we sitll be able to discriminate, and she said yes. It's so sad to see how we can't get along. >_< Edited by Roxie Faye

You got the basic idea of what I was saying :)

The way that smaller, more slitted eyes are blatant stereotypes of Asians is because that their eyes ARE like that.

Now, if you delve more deeply into this issue, you can start to pick out brutal stereotypes of other races and think of them as 'WHY' issues rather than thinking that they're horrible.

I'll make an example that I don't think anyone will be too offended by. Think about how lots of celebrities are thought of as spoiled divas. More than likely it's not descrimination, it's truth.

Ok, that probably didn't make sense...I must think of something more hurtful...

Ah yes, the stereotype that all younger black males are associated with gangs and crime. It's a horrible concept really, but if you think intelligently about it for a moment, rather than reacting all spitefully, then you'll see that the stereotype has to come from SOMEwhere. And it does; many inner city young black men ARE involved with gangs for lack of other family support. It's actually a sad epidemic, they join gangs to be a part of a family, which inevitably leads to crime.

Now see? That wasn't such a harsh stereotype afterall. It's a generalization for a reason, and a rational one at that.

I think that the ability to understand where stereotypes come from may also be part of the solution in terms of racism.

The more you understand about the origins of these things, the less ignorant you are about them. And that in turn allows for some level of understanding.

actually, i find that kind of stuff very interesting.....
the young black kids join gangs, because it makes them feel like they belong somwhere. if you think about that kind of stuff in a first person point of view, you can actually understand where people are comming from.

do you know whats really sad? when people pick on other people so bad, they become ashamed of their own ethnicity/religion/weight...

and why would someone pick on someone who is overweight?

i wonder why people are racist to begin with? i mean, whats the basis for hate against a group of people that just look a bit different? i mean, in the end, we all bleed red blood....

Brutal stereotypes tend to be true most of the time.

Most Blacks are average or below average on the educational scale. When you see a smart Black, he/she is usually the smartest person you'll ever meet. Most 'Americans' are average or above average. Asians are usually equally split between below average, average, and over average. Most Mexicans are average or below average.

Most cheap labor workers are Hispanic or Mexican. Most rich people are white.

Call me ignorant and racist, but I beleive what I want to believe. Can you truly look at a black person and think that he must be smart? Can you not look at a group of construction workers and not note that most of them are Mexican? I will never verbally, mentally, or physically abuse someone because of their skin color, but some stereotypes tell me what to expect from some people.

I'm going to take a bit of a radical stand here. I belive the main proprietor of racism TODAY are the minorities themselves. Let me explain before you try to lynch me. What is up with the double standard found in some black culture through use of the word "Nigga." So because they are black, they can use a racially insulting slur as some sort of proactive connotation? Excuse me.. did i miss something? Why is it that when i watch the BET it seems to rip apart its white guests (if you've seen it you would agree). Why is it that acting like a sterotypical "nigga" when you are white is disrepectful to their "culture", and they tote the same "culture" as "oppressed by racism" on mainstream media. Why is it that a black family tried to sue the school because their son didn't get on the basketball team, despite the fact he performed horribly during tryouts? How is it fair that if i critisize a minority, it becomes a racial issue, yet if a caucasian asked for the same pitiance he would be ridiculed?
I understand that racism is a reality, but the false pretenses need to stop here people. Everyone's guilty here. I like Charle's response earlier when he explained how systems like Affirmative action indirectly support racism. I agree. I've been ridiculed for being white. I've been called "racist" because I don't have minority friends. I'm sorry oh wise and powerful 17 year old, i didn't realize being a different skin color made you all the wiser to the harsh realities of the world. We've all felt pain some way or another, stop idolizing yours.
Somehow it's suddenly taboo to talk about race at all. I get nervous around black people, I've seen what happens when someone accidently "acts gangsta" and is riddiculed for it. I've seen people hold the fact they are white against them. Enough already. I think the more people bring it up and "take a stand" against racism the worse it gets. I say that because then everyone sets rules about how they must act or be. It indirectly reinforces caucasian steryotypes. Why can't we just be mature about the whole thing and ignore race as a major attribute, it's just making the ground more tumultous. Call me racist if you will, but you only refuse to accept my opinions whether or not i accept yours. That makes you no better than myself.

This thread is depressing me.

How ironic that I should come across this thread today. You see I'm not racist ,unlike mr happy above me, but their were three different fights today about racism. One was about a girl who told all black people to leave just because she didn't like them. One was two gangs of white and black going against each other, and the last one was of a white against a hispanic group and an oriental group. Notice how white was in every situation. Racism may not be illegal, but fist fighting is and that is how every one of these situations turned out. It's pointless to argue over something that you can't change. you can't change your race and you can't make other races leave just because you don't like them for it. So do us all a favor and keep any comments like that to your self. Unless you don't mind starting fights and going to jail than be my guest. Oh and fiasco, if you want be racist that's fine ,since it is your oppinion, just don't make rude comments like the last one. I'm pretty sure we don't want to read it.

Fiasco, how can you be racist AND an anime fan? The anime is created by the Japanese asians and brought over to AMerica probably by a mixed cultural group. Your a pretty weird guy and can't see your own flaws obviously.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something. You can't seem to accept Fiasco for his opinions. It's not like he's attacked anyone, or acted upon his opinions. So, technically, Diago and Charlie, you are far more prejudice than he is for critisizing his opinion. I don't care what or who you hate, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Umm.., actually i was commenting on how he was telling everyone to "...eat it up." Do I like that he is racist? No, but I don't hate him either. He has his own oppinion. I don't think however that any one likes the fact that he just shoved it in our face. That is what I was commenting on. Now I think Daigo was just saying how he is racist and yet is also an anime fan. Which if you think about it doesn't really make since considering that almost all races either contribute to it or watches it and he is racist and a fan of anime. Of coarse Daigo could be commenting on something else and I just didn't get the point so will have to ask him about that one.
