Things that make you feel like drinking.
Did I say I was better than you or others who drink? No.Did I say I look down on you or anyone else who does? No.

You asked a question, I answered it truthfully. I said that there was nothing that made me want to drink. And I was serious. It has nothing to do with you, it has to do with the painful memory of losing an older brother to a drunk driver.

I am really sorry to hear that.
drinking and driving is a crime. everyone knows that you cannot fully control a car while intoxicated. Killing anyone like that is the same as premeditated murder in my opinion. if you step behind the wheel drunk you know full well that you can kill someone.

Also, i am sorry for getting a bit defensive, but it was not supposed to be targeting you, i just didnt want the negative implications to prevent other people from positing. after all, I still would sooner blame the person who decides to drive drunk over alcohol, but that is just me seeing things from the outside... if i were in your shoes i might feel the same way you do.

I prefer mindless violence that can be found in video games to drinking. Works great for stress, but not so great if one is feeling down.

I actually tried it a few times because I was curious... nothing really strong just a glass of wine. But, I have no tolerance for alcohol, and the so called 'lighter' stuff was more than enough to get me wasted.

So I don't drink, I'd rather not find out what something stronger would do. Haven't touched the stuff in over five years and don't plan on it.

Thirst ?

I suppose I'd be classified as a social drinker, I only ever drink when I head out to a nightclub with friends which only ever happens about once every two months and even then I'll only have two or three beers. Good social lubricant as Josh pointed out.

I'm a sucker for cocktails... most guys will say a cigarette goes well with a beer, but for me its any of the following: Mojito, cosmopolitan, Woowoo, Screwdriver, and Gut-rot(the imfamous homemade cocktail). ;D
I will never consume any alcoholic beverage. I have seen what it can do to people and it disgusts me.
Yeah, I feel the same way about naivete so I hear you.

I enjoy a good drink with company or a beer after a long day. There's nothing like some Shiner Bock, Guinness, or Newcastle from the tap with a cigar while watching a basketball game. Talk about taking a load off. Don't even get me started on whiskey.

I've never wandered into getting wasted with specific emotions or yearnings in mind. It seems to be rather arbitrary depending on exactly what the goings-on of the evening are and the mood of my peers as to if I think it might be appropriate to get wasted. When I'm down, I find myself pulled more towards smoking a cigar, reading a book, writing, or some other activity for some reason.

I've never had a smoke or an alcoholic beverage a day in my life, and never will, BUT being in college I can certainly see why/how one would with the amount of work that's given. When that semester or quarter is over with, you'd think you deserve a little bit of everything... At least that's how I'm feeling.

Then again I prefer a vacation over the drinking any day.

I have recently taken up wine. (maybe 2 months of having on average a bottle or two a week. I drank wine before, but not nearly as often as i do now (being able to by my own helped). I find that a glass of wine after work makes me less unhappy i worked all day, and i go to bed faster which helps since 4 am is about my normal bed time

I think I've actually cut back my drinking habits from those I had a few years ago. For at least the past year or so I've enjoyed guzzling down a 40 oz about once a week, with a beer or two thrown in during the week. Every once in a while though, they're be a social even that I probably drink a bit too much at. I only gage the amount I drank as too much if I wake up sick in the morning.

Also strip clubs make me feel like drinking. I have to stay away from them. They make me spend a lot of money and end up doing crazy things. Like the time I volunteered to be a judge for an amateur contest. Then I gave a smokin' hot girl a 1 as a joke and screamed crazily into the microphone. Then I ended up on a burn cruse with this person after the place closed.

Err...yeah. Also Nintendo games. They make me want to drink.

So a long long weekend of FanimeCon made me want to drink, and while I have a policy of not drinking while working, there's nothing that says I can't drink once I'm home. So after a long, stressful [and occasionally disappointing] weekend, me and the boyfriend decided that ginger beer [non alcoholic] mixed with Bacardi Torched Cherry Rum on ice was a good idea.

We'd showered, cleaned up, eaten, and were watching back to back episodes of Top Gear when the thought occurred to me that it would be the perfect time to have a drink.

And it turns out it was.

Also I generally get urges to get wasted to avoid writing giant papers.
Really? I find drinking helps me write said papers.

So....I drink. Your definition of how much depends entirely on how much you drink. If you drink nothing, I drink a lot. If you're an alcoholic, I don't drink that much. In answer to your question: things that make me feel like drinking: stress, relief, nice dinners, pub dinners, social gatherings, college gatherings (haven't been to one of those for a while), busy weeks, before exams (although I've only done that once. It helped, I swear!), after exams, when writing papers, after writing papers, to celebrate...the list goes on. I've only drunk to 'forget' once and it was very effective and I had a great time, partially because I was supported by some amazing friends who made it their mission to help me forget what I was outrunning. Normally drinking is just a happy thing for me. I'm out and talking and socialising and it just slides right into that situation.

When I was younger, I didn't like the taste of alcohol at all. It's one of those things, like coffee. Now, I really appreciate the different tastes. A glass of Bundy and Coke or Bacardi and Pepsi Max after work but before dinner goes down really nicely. Or a glass of whiskey after dinner with cheese and fruit is lovely. A glass of wine with a dinner with friends is great. A shot of tequila out on the town can actually be a good thing. And cocktails are just amazing marvels of taste. The different mixes you can get are so awesome. And surprising, too.

I don't think I know anyone who drinks when they're already depressed, because alcohol is essentially a magnifying glass for emotions. If you're up it's great, if you're down....why would you do that to yourself? I've had friends who come home and say, "I've had a shit day, do you want to go to the pub?" but it isn't the drinking that's important in that situation, it's the socialising. The drinks are just a vehicle to do that, to get to another location and relax and socialise and chat.

Ultimately, I'm for drinking. Appropriately. I don't think I drink more than once a week, if that, but if I do I will almost always have more than one drink. Do I get plastered every time? Nope. Have I been plastered before? Hellz yes. Do I regret it? Not to date. You might not like the feeling the morning after (and I very rarely ever get to that point, because after the first time or two, you do know your limits), but because of the type of person I am, I don't do things that would ruin my life. Full stop.

Like my partner in crime Magus, I have never drank alcohol a day in my life. Personally, even the smell of it just gags me. I find that using it as a means of coping with stress may be an answer for some but in my experience those who use it that way hardly ever have their stress dealt with. If anything, alcohol only fuels the problems more. Whenever I'm stressed, I find that talking with close friends or with my girlfrirend usually does the trick and makes me feel a lot better.

Not that I haven't had a lot of things to drink about these days. >> Edited by Korey

I will admit I'm one of those people who drink when they are stressed. I don't get drunk though. Just a few glasses of wine or a beer is enough for me. I usually drink wine more then beer. I'm tend to be very picky when it comes to beer. In high school is when I guess you could say I was at my worse. Mostly cause I had some really stressful AP classes and I was dealing with my parents divorce. It was a really nasty divorce. Now I might have a glass wine during exam week at college but not much else. Edited by Cat

I'm really not that picky when it comes to Wine. Usually it what ever I can afford at the time. I guess if I have to pick though it would be Hawkstone. I haven't tried Riesling though. I'll have to next time. Edited by Cat

Riesling is a variety of wine, like Chardonnay. I'm guessing Hawkstone is a wine label...

I quite like sweeter wines. Brown Brothers (in Australia) do a wine called Zibibbo. It's a really light, quite sweet sparkling wine and I kind of adore it. It's like the candy equivalent of wine.

hah... only get that attached to a team if its going to win.

Back to wine...
I dont have a favorite lable though i buy a lot of yellow tail since its cheap and still pretty decent. other than that i switch up the local brands. I live in southern california so the Zinfandels are some of the best in the world.
I also had a really great wine at this wine testing festival. its called a tatria, from stuart cellars.[s] probably[/s] the best wine i have ever had.

The NBA Finals are this close to driving me to a bar.

Yeah, the Kobe's are making it a series by giving the Celtics two games. :P

Speaking of sporting events and drinking, is anyone else a little offput by people who get sloppy in public places (Bars, Restaurants, Sporting Events, Concerts)? I went to a Padres game about two years ago and I sat right behind a man who was three sheets to the wind. Right when we sat down, he had a beer in each little Cup holder and he had about five more during the game. What made it worse is how obnoxious he got. He would yell at the umpire, make fun of the other team. Usual fan behavior, but this involved a whole lot more expletives and most of them were slurred. It made the game less enjoyable to me because when I go to a ball game or out in public, I love to cheer and root for my team. However, I don't try to be obnoxious to others who are trying to enjoy the game. Eventually someone got fed up with that guy and he got escorted out of the game. Little too late, seeing as it was the 8th inning :/
